To promote a festival sale on an always-on YouTube Live channel, first schedule the live event in YouTube Studio. If the sale video should play during the continuous stream, add it to the encoder or playout system’s outgoing feed; YouTube’s scheduled-stream trailer plays before an event starts, not in the middle of an already-running broadcast.
Choose where the promo should appear

Schedule the YouTube Live event
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create and then Go Live. Open Manage and choose Schedule Stream. Reuse settings from a previous stream or create a new stream. YouTube’s encoder setup and scheduling steps.
- Enter the event details. Set the title, description, visibility, thumbnail, date and time. Scheduling creates an upcoming watch page you can share; viewers may be able to set reminders.
- Share the scheduled watch page. Use the event link in your festival-sale announcements so viewers can find the scheduled stream.
- Connect the encoder to the scheduled event. Use that event’s server URL and stream key in your encoder. YouTube recommends encrypted RTMPS ingestion. Keep the stream key private because anyone with it may be able to send a feed to the stream. YouTube encoder settings and connection instructions.
Use a trailer only for a pre-stream message
If the video should play before the scheduled broadcast begins, upload it as a channel video and select it as the event’s trailer in the scheduled stream settings, if the channel meets YouTube’s eligibility rules. The trailer must be 15 seconds to 3 minutes; the channel must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. Check the current settings and requirements in YouTube’s scheduled-stream settings guidance.
A trailer is not a way to interrupt or insert a clip into an existing always-on feed. For that, the promo must be included in the encoder-fed program output.
Put the sale video into the continuous program
- Prepare the clip. Use a version you have the rights to show, including its music, footage, logos and any other third-party material. Check that its dimensions and audio suit the channel’s normal output.
- Add it as a source in the encoder or playout system. Configure the chosen system to switch from the regular program to the sale clip and then back. The available playlist, scene or scheduling controls vary by system; YouTube’s encoder connection documentation does not prescribe a specific midstream playlist method.
- Keep the scheduled event’s connection intact. The encoder must send the intended program to the scheduled event using its stream URL and key. Do not expose the key in a promo graphic, public page or shared production notes.
- Test the entire transition before the sale. Check the normal feed, promo start, promo end, return to the normal program, audio levels, aspect ratio and the Live Control Room preview. Confirm the scheduled watch page receives the intended output rather than assuming the encoder change worked.
- Monitor the broadcast. Watch stream-health notices and the actual audio and video while the event is live. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the stream and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event so there is time to check the preview and resolve problems. Preflight checklist for a festival broadcast
- Verify the scheduled event’s date, time, visibility, title, thumbnail and shared watch-page link.
- Confirm the encoder is connected to the correct event and that the stream key has not been exposed.
- Play the whole promo and inspect the transition in both directions; listen for abrupt or excessively loud audio.
- Check the stream in Live Control Room’s preview and review stream-health messages before relying on the public event.
- Ensure you have rights to the video and audio. A live broadcast is not exempt from copyright rules merely because the footage is prerecorded or promotional.
- Keep an operator available to monitor the stream and switch back to the regular program if the promo or playout fails.
Plan separately for long-running streams and ads
Archives
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For a continuous stream that may exceed 12 hours, keep a separate recording or archive plan rather than assuming the complete broadcast will be saved. YouTube live-stream archive guidance.

Platform ads
If the channel is eligible for monetization, YouTube’s live mid-roll controls can insert platform ads. They are separate from the channel owner’s festival creative: use the encoder or playout system for your own sale video. YouTube live ad guidance.
What applies to channels in India
The YouTube Studio and encoder steps described here are the general workflow; the cited YouTube Help pages do not establish a separate India-only scheduling procedure.
