YouTube Studio’s documented workflow lets you schedule individual live streams and reuse settings from a previous event, but its current help instructions do not describe a native rule that automatically schedules a recurring series. Plan to create each occurrence separately, then choose a caption method for that stream: eligible English streams may use automatic captions at normal latency, while other productions can send embedded captions or use supported caption software.
Schedule each occurrence in YouTube Studio
YouTube’s scheduling tools let you create an event page in advance, share its URL, and give viewers the option to set a reminder. For a weekly show or other recurring series, schedule each date as a separate event unless you have verified a different current workflow in your account.
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Select Manage > Schedule stream.
- Choose Create new for a fresh setup or Reuse settings to copy settings from a previous stream. Reuse can carry over metadata, settings, and the stream key; it does not establish an automatic recurrence rule.
- For each event, verify the title, description, privacy, date and time, caption source, and encoder configuration. Confirm the selected stream key is the one your encoder will use.
- Connect the encoder with YouTube’s stream URL and stream key. At broadcast time, start the encoder and check that its preview appears in Live Control Room. Select Go live when the preview and stream status are ready.
See YouTube Help’s encoder setup instructions and live stream settings guide for the current Studio workflow.
Choose a caption method
Set up captions for each scheduled stream and confirm the chosen source before broadcasting. The right route depends on the stream’s language and latency, whether professional captioning is available, and whether your encoder or software can deliver captions.

| Method | Best fit | What to configure | Limit to plan for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Automatic captions | Eligible English streams at normal latency when professional captions are unavailable | In the stream’s Stream settings, enable Closed captions and choose Automatic captions. | Availability is subject to YouTube’s rollout and account eligibility. Live automatic captions do not remain on the video after the stream; the VOD caption process creates new captions that may differ. |
| Embedded 608/708 captions | Productions whose encoder and caption source can send compatible embedded captions | In stream setup settings, enable Closed captions, choose Embedded 608/708, and configure the encoder to send EIA 608/CEA 708 captions. | YouTube’s workflow currently supports one caption track, even though the underlying standard supports more. |
| Supported caption software over HTTP | Productions using supported caption software to supply a separate caption feed | Enable captions in stream setup, copy YouTube’s signed captions ingestion URL, and provide it to the captioner or software. | Each stream entry point has one caption feed. YouTube recommends an accurate system clock and documents adding a 30- or 60-second broadcast delay for this event workflow. |
Automatic captions: check eligibility first
YouTube Help describes live automatic captions as English-only and currently rolling out to channels streaming at normal latency when professional captions are unavailable. Check the current stream controls and your account before relying on them; eligibility and availability can change. Consult YouTube’s automatic captioning guidance.
Embedded captions: verify the whole signal path
This option depends on both a caption source and an encoder that can carry compatible EIA 608/CEA 708 data. Enabling the option in Studio alone does not create captions: confirm the encoder is actually sending them and that they appear in the stream preview. YouTube’s live caption requirements describe supported approaches.

HTTP captions: coordinate the feed and event timing
Use the signed ingestion URL for the specific stream and give it to the captioner or supported software. YouTube lists Total Eclipse/AccuCap, Case CATalyst BCS, CaptionMaker, and StreamText.Net; check the current requirements page for version details before choosing or updating software. Coordinate the recommended system-clock accuracy and the documented 30- or 60-second delay with the event team so captions stay aligned with the broadcast.
Prepare a recurring series without carrying over mistakes
Reusing a previous event can save setup time, but copied settings can be wrong for a new date or production. Treat each occurrence as its own event and verify the details that affect viewers, the encoder, and accessibility.

Automatic captions are missing
Check whether the stream is English, uses normal latency, and is eligible for the feature; YouTube describes availability as a rollout. In that stream’s settings, confirm Closed captions > Automatic captions is selected. If the option is unavailable or unsuitable, use a compatible embedded-caption or HTTP caption workflow.
Embedded captions do not appear
Confirm that the encoder and caption source are configured to send EIA 608/CEA 708 data, that embedded captions are selected in stream setup, and that the preview receives the caption signal. The Studio selection cannot substitute for a working caption feed.

Software captions fail to connect or appear out of sync
Recheck that the captioner has the signed URL for the correct stream entry point and that no second feed is being configured for that entry point. Check system-clock accuracy and coordinate the event’s documented broadcast delay with the caption provider. Consult YouTube’s current caption requirements for software and version compatibility.
The wrong stream or copied settings go live
Before broadcast, compare the scheduled event’s key and encoder configuration with the encoder you plan to start. Review reused metadata, privacy, caption source, and auto-start or auto-stop settings. Wait for the intended preview and check stream health before going live.
Or let it run in the cloud
