To check a live audience, open the stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and look at Real-time analytics. After the broadcast, go to YouTube Studio → Content → Live → select the stream → Analytics → Engagement for its concurrent-viewers report. “Views,” “concurrent viewers” and “peak concurrent viewers” measure different things, so use the label that matches the question you want to answer.
Check viewers while your YouTube stream is live
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and open the broadcast in Live Control Room.
- Find Real-time analytics.
- Read Concurrent viewers for the number watching at the same time, and Views for live views under YouTube’s counting rules.
The available real-time metrics can vary depending on whether you stream from a phone or an encoder. Peak concurrent viewers is the highest simultaneous audience reached during the broadcast.
Find the audience report after the stream ends
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- In the left menu, select Content, then the Live tab.
- Select the ended stream and open Analytics.
- Choose Engagement to see the video-level concurrent-viewers report.
YouTube says these video-level metrics are available within minutes after the stream ends. In YouTube Analytics, reports can also be filtered to Live, On demand or Live & on demand. See YouTube Help’s live-stream metrics guide and ended-stream analytics guidance.
Know which number answers your question

YouTube Help defines peak concurrent viewers as “the highest number of viewers during a live stream.” None of these figures should be relabeled as an exact count of unique people: the cited YouTube guidance defines views and simultaneous-viewer measures, but does not establish how many distinct individuals watched a particular stream.

Understand differences between Studio reports
Live Control Room and YouTube Analytics can show different numbers because they measure and process data differently. YouTube says Analytics data is based on video ID and is processed and despammed. When sharing a result, identify both the report and metric—for example, “peak concurrent viewers in Live Control Room” or “views in video-level Analytics”—rather than treating every displayed count as the same counter. Separate vertical-stream metrics from a combined broadcast
If you broadcast in both horizontal and vertical formats, Live Control Room combines their metrics. To isolate the vertical stream, YouTube’s guidance says to wait 24 hours after the stream ends, then:

- In Studio, open Content → Live and select the ended stream.
- Open Analytics → Advanced mode.
- Choose Playback location as the breakdown.
- Select a time period longer than the first 24 hours, then choose Vertical live feed.

How YouTube counts views
YouTube’s content-performance guidance states that, beginning August 24, 2026, a view is counted when a video starts playing across formats, including live streams. YouTube also says this change does not affect YouTube Partner Program earnings or eligibility. This is a policy effective date, not a way to identify unique viewers; for the current definition, consult YouTube’s content-performance guidance.
