In OBS Studio, open Settings → Output → Streaming and set Keyframe Interval to 2 seconds. If the control is not visible, switch Output Mode to Advanced. YouTube recommends keyframes every two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds; its guidance does not specify a different interval for streams from India.
Set the keyframe interval in OBS

Open OBS Studio and select Settings.

Select Output. If needed, change Output Mode to Advanced to expose the streaming encoder controls.

Open the Streaming section or tab, then find the encoder’s Keyframe Interval control.

Enter 2 seconds and apply the settings. OBS versions and encoders can present different labels or units, so check whether the control expects seconds or frames.

Start a test stream and check the preview, audio, moving video, and stream-health messages in YouTube Live Control Room before the broadcast.
OBS controls vary by version, platform, encoder, and hardware. The streaming encoder’s setting is the one to adjust; OBS’s recording examples are not a substitute for YouTube’s live-stream requirement. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance recommends two-second keyframes and sets a four-second maximum.

Convert two seconds to frames only if OBS asks
Some encoder controls use frame counts instead of seconds. Calculate the interval using the stream’s actual frame rate:
- 30 fps: 2 × 30 = 60 frames.
- 60 fps: 2 × 60 = 120 frames.
Do not enter 60 frames automatically if your stream runs at 60 fps: that would represent one second. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance gives the 30 fps example and advises changing the keyframe frequency when the frame rate changes. See YouTube’s live-streaming error guidance.

The keyframe interval is only one part of a stable stream. For RTMP or RTMPS, YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. It lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video codecs, with frame rates up to 60 fps. Use a bitrate appropriate to the resolution, frame rate, and available upload connection; the following are YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations, not guarantees of quality:

These recommendations come from YouTube’s live encoder settings. Test your upload capacity and run a preflight with representative motion and audio; monitor stream health during the event. The connection available at the broadcast location matters more than a nominal plan speed.

Troubleshoot a keyframe warning
- YouTube reports keyframes too far apart or too frequent: set the interval to two seconds, confirm the unit, and recalculate if you changed frame rate.
- The setting is frame-based: use 60 frames at 30 fps or 120 frames at 60 fps for two seconds.
- The warning remains after correcting the interval: inspect YouTube’s stream-health diagnostics and the encoder’s GOP behavior. YouTube notes that ingestion errors can affect GOP size and that a closed GOP is required for optimal transcoding.
- Resolution or video-setting errors appear: check that the output resolution matches the selected ingestion resolution and that the bitrate fits the connection and chosen stream settings.
- Video appears but the test is otherwise unreliable: test again with typical gameplay movement and audio, and watch YouTube Live Control Room’s health messages rather than relying only on the local OBS preview.

YouTube’s published encoder guidance is platform-wide and does not state a separate keyframe interval or India-only bitrate rule. Use the same two-second target from India, then choose resolution and bitrate based on YouTube’s published recommendations and the upload connection you actually have at the streaming location. The cited guidance does not establish a special India-specific exception.
