OBS does not automatically connect a playlist source to a YouTube channel. To keep rotations separate, create a VLC Video Source for each playlist, set each source’s loop and shuffle options, and organize the sources in channel-specific scenes. Before streaming, select the scene and YouTube stream key for the channel you intend to broadcast to.
Set up a separate OBS playlist for each channel

Install VLC
Install VLC before configuring the source: OBS requires it for the VLC Video Source to appear. Match the application architecture—64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. See the OBS Media Sources guide.

Create one VLC Video Source per rotation
In OBS, use the Sources dock to add a VLC Video Source. Name it so its purpose is clear, such as “Channel A — rotation,” then add the media files for that playlist. Repeat for each distinct rotation, giving each source its own list and settings. OBS describes VLC Video Source as supporting a playlist, “similar to an Image Slideshow.”

Choose loop and shuffle behavior
Open each VLC Video Source’s properties and set Loop Playlist and Shuffle Playlist according to that rotation’s needs. Enable Loop Playlist if playback should restart when the list ends. Enable Shuffle Playlist if items should play in randomized order rather than list order. Configure these separately on every source.

Organize the rotations in scenes
OBS scenes contain sources. Create a scene for each channel if that makes it easier to choose the right rotation, and place the matching playlist source in that scene. Alternatively, keep sources together and use the eye control in the Sources dock to hide or show the intended source. OBS documents these scene and source controls in its overview.

Keep scene layouts separate from output profiles
An OBS Profile stores stream, video, and output settings; it does not store scenes. If channel setups need different scene and source arrangements, manage those with Scene Collections rather than assuming that switching Profiles will switch the layout too. OBS explains the distinction in its Profiles guide.

Choose the correct channel before going live
When you switch channels, verify both the active OBS scene/source and the stream destination configured for that broadcast. The playlist setup controls media playback in OBS; it does not select a YouTube channel or change the channel’s YouTube playlist membership.
What OBS does—and does not—connect
The documented workflow is a set of OBS media playlists that you organize and select yourself. The OBS documentation describes playlist sources, scenes, and profiles, but does not establish automatic binding between a VLC Video Source and a YouTube channel, or synchronization with playlists on YouTube. Treat channel-to-source matching as an operator-managed setup, not an automatic integration.

Built-in VLC source or a third-party playlist source?

The built-in source is the straightforward choice if VLC and its controls suit your setup. Consider the plugin only if its listed features address a specific need; confirm current compatibility and maintenance details on its listing.
Troubleshooting separate rotations
- VLC Video Source is missing: Install VLC and ensure its architecture matches OBS. The documented requirement is 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
- The wrong rotation plays: Check which scene is active and whether the intended source is visible in the Sources dock. Give sources and scenes unmistakable names.
- A playlist stops at the end: Open that source’s properties and enable Loop Playlist.
- Items play in a different order: Check whether Shuffle Playlist is enabled. Disable it if the list should follow its configured order.
- The scene changes but the stream destination does not: Scenes organize what OBS displays; they are not channel selectors. Verify the destination and stream key separately before going live.
- A Profile switch does not restore the expected layout: Profiles do not store scenes. Select the appropriate Scene Collection for the channel layout.
- You expect YouTube playlist changes to update OBS: This documented setup does not synchronize YouTube playlist membership with OBS media sources. Update the OBS source’s media list yourself or verify a specific integration before relying on it.
