For a natural, consistent live-stream image, set your lighting and exposure first, then white balance, focus, and picture style. A useful starting point for 25 fps is a 1/50-second shutter; for 30 fps, try 1/60 second. Treat those as starting points, not rules: check for flicker, blur, and noise in your actual room and camera feed.
Set the image in the right order
Camera settings work together. Shutter speed affects both brightness and how motion looks; aperture affects brightness and depth of field; ISO can brighten the image but may add visible noise at high values. White balance controls color under your lighting, while focus determines whether your subject stays sharp. Make adjustments with the final room lighting and camera position in place.
Set exposure for your frame rate and room
1. Choose a shutter speed
Choose the frame rate you intend to stream, then set shutter speed to suit it. Nikon School UK gives 1/50 or 1/60 second as a baseline for common 25 or 30 fps setups. This is not universal: camera controls, lighting flicker, and the amount of motion in the scene can change what looks best. If the image flickers or movement looks unpleasantly blurred, test a different supported shutter speed.
Regional electrical lighting can flicker at different rates, so judge the result through the streaming camera feed rather than assuming one setting will work everywhere. PRISM Live Studio’s camera Pro Mode guide also covers camera exposure controls: Using Camera Pro Mode.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Adjust aperture and ISO
Open or close the aperture to balance exposure with the depth of field you want. A shallower depth of field can separate a player from the background, but it can also make focus less forgiving. Keep ISO as low as practical while maintaining usable brightness; raise it only as needed, because high ISO can make noise more visible. If the image is too dark, improve the lighting where possible before relying on a large ISO increase.
Make color consistent with white balance
Set white balance under the same lighting you will use on stream. If the lights and scene remain steady, a fixed white-balance setting can prevent the color from continually shifting as automatic white balance reacts to changes in the frame. OBS Camera recommends checking a neutral white object under that light: “A good way to get it right is to make sure an object which appears white in person is white in your photo. A sheet of white A4 paper is a good test subject.” See its iPhone camera controls documentation for the device-specific controls it describes.

Use the paper or another neutral target as a check, not as a substitute for matching the actual light on your subject. Mixed lighting—for example, daylight from one side and a differently colored lamp from the other—can make consistent color difficult. Where possible, simplify or match the lights before fine-tuning white balance.
Choose autofocus or locked focus
If you move around and your camera tracks reliably, continuous autofocus can keep you sharp. If you sit in a fixed position, locking focus can prevent distracting focus hunting. Test at the actual streaming distance and framing: a camera preview focused on a nearby setup target may not match where you will sit during the stream. Controls vary by camera and lens. OBS Camera documents tapping a focus point and long-pressing to lock focus on iOS; that control should not be assumed to exist on other devices.

Pick a picture style for the image you will actually stream
For a live feed that will go out with little or no color grading, choose a finished look that already appears right in the preview. Nikon School UK lists Flat, Standard, or Portrait depending on whether you plan to grade the image later. Flat or log is not a blanket best choice: it is more appropriate when you have a downstream grading workflow and know how that signal will be handled. For a straightforward stream, compare available styles under your final lighting and choose the one that needs the least correction.
Bring the camera into OBS and keep camera settings separate from stream output
Camera image settings and encoder output settings solve different problems. Exposure, white balance, focus, and picture style shape the camera image. Output resolution, frame rate, and bitrate govern how OBS sends the stream to the platform. Changing an encoder bitrate will not correct a green color cast or focus hunting.

- Add the camera: In OBS, add a Video Capture Source to the scene and select your camera. Use the OBS Project’s webcam setup guidance if you need help adding it.
- Frame the shot: Position and size the camera source in the scene, then check that your face or subject stays within frame at the intended distance.
- Apply only purposeful filters: Start with the camera’s own image controls. Add an OBS filter only when it addresses a specific need, such as chroma key for a green screen.
- Set reliable output: Choose output quality that your connection can sustain. Consult YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance for the platform’s encoder recommendations.
Use this repeatable pre-stream setup
- Fix the camera position, subject distance, and final room lighting.
- Set the target frame rate, then start near 1/50 second at 25 fps or 1/60 second at 30 fps if your camera supports it. Inspect for flicker and motion blur.
- Adjust aperture for exposure and depth of field. Use the lowest practical ISO that gives a usable image.
- Set white balance under the final lighting and compare a neutral white object in that light.
- Choose continuous autofocus for dependable tracking when you move, or lock focus when your position is fixed.
- Select a picture style that suits the signal you will send—finished in-camera for a simple live workflow, or flatter only if you will grade it downstream.
- Add the camera as an OBS Video Capture Source, compose the scene, and avoid filters that do not solve a defined problem.
- Run a private or otherwise safe preflight with representative movement and audio. Check the actual stream output and health, not just the camera preview. OBS’s Studio Overview Guide explains the main OBS workspace and stream monitoring.
Troubleshoot the image before going live
- Flicker or pulsing brightness: Lighting and shutter speed may be interacting. Recheck at the intended frame rate and test a different supported shutter speed under the room’s actual lights.
- Motion looks smeared: The shutter may be too slow for the movement. Test a faster supported shutter while checking exposure and lighting.
- Image looks noisy: ISO may be too high. Add or improve light, then lower ISO while retaining a usable exposure.
- Skin or neutral objects look tinted: Recheck white balance under the final lights using a neutral white target. Mixed light sources may be giving different color casts across the subject.
- Focus drifts or hunts: For a fixed position, test locked focus at the real streaming distance. If you move, verify that continuous autofocus can track you reliably.
- Preview looks good but stream does not: Inspect the OBS scene and sent output, not just the camera preview. Confirm the selected camera source, output settings, and stream health during a representative test.
Or let it run in the cloud

It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Your upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos on YouTube, not a camera live feed. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
