1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIn OBS, choose your listening device under Settings → Audio, then set the intended source’s monitoring behavior in Audio Mixer → Edit → Advanced Audio Properties. Test the sound locally and separately verify what reaches YouTube: hearing audio through OBS monitoring does not prove that viewers can hear it.
Hindi speech, music, and ambience do not require special OBS monitoring controls. The important factors are your audio sources, their routing, and the monitoring device available on your operating system.
Set OBS audio monitoring for your Hindi relaxation stream
- Select a monitoring device. In OBS, open Settings → Audio and choose the device you plan to listen through. Connect it first if it is not already available. The Audio Mixer Guide explains that a source’s monitor button plays its audio through the device configured here. OBS Audio Mixer Guide.
- Choose which source to monitor. In the Audio Mixer, open Edit → Advanced Audio Properties. For each relevant source, select the monitoring behavior that fits your check. Monitor the actual planned elements—such as background music, ambience, and Hindi speech—rather than assuming one source represents the whole mix.
- Play the sources and check signal. Confirm that the relevant mixer meters move and that you can hear the sound through the selected device. Adjust the source level first, then check operating-system and OBS fader levels as needed. Volume behavior can differ by device, so test rather than assuming a particular control changes the level you hear.
- Listen for echo from duplicate capture. If you add a device with an Audio Input/Output Capture source in a scene while also selecting that same device globally in Settings → Audio, OBS warns that the duplicate capture can cause echo. If you use the scene-specific device source, disable the matching global device. See OBS Audio Sources.
- Record and listen back before going live. Record a representative session and play the file back. Include the music, ambience, and speech you intend to use so you can assess the actual balance and routing. OBS recommends recording a session and listening to it before a broadcast; YouTube likewise recommends a pre-live test with audio and video movement similar to the planned stream.
Read the OBS mixer meters carefully
OBS describes green as a cue for background music and sound effects, yellow for speech, and red as close to clipping. Use these as qualitative signal cues, not as a guarantee of how loud the stream sounds to viewers. OBS cautions that sounds with similar meter levels can still be perceived as different loudness. The guide also says the mixer’s top dot retains the loudest reading over 20 seconds, which can help reveal a brief peak. See the OBS Audio Mixer Guide.
- No meter movement: Check that the source is active and routed into the relevant OBS mixer channel.
- Meter moves, but you hear nothing: Recheck the monitoring device selected in Settings → Audio and the source’s monitoring behavior in Advanced Audio Properties.
- Echo or doubled sound: Look for the same device captured both globally and through a scene-specific source.
- Red peaks: Reduce the relevant source level and listen to a new recording; a meter indication alone does not describe the perceived loudness of the finished mix.
Check the audio YouTube receives
Local monitoring only tells you what you hear through OBS’s configured monitoring device. It does not, by itself, establish that the same audio is routed to the live output or received by viewers. Listen to a recording or run a pre-live test, verify the stream’s received audio, and monitor YouTube stream health during the event.

For RTMP/RTMPS live encoding, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio, and specifies AAC for 5.1 surround support. Its published advanced recommendations distinguish stereo from 5.1:
| Delivery format | Sample rate recommended by YouTube | Audio bitrate recommended by YouTube |
|---|---|---|
| Stereo | 44.1 kHz | 128 kbps |
| 5.1 surround | 48 kHz | 384 kbps |
These are YouTube’s published encoder recommendations, retrieved on 2026-10-03; the page does not display a publication date. A typical stereo relaxation stream should use the stereo row unless its actual delivery format is 5.1. These are not Hindi-specific settings. See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
