How to Set OBS Bitrate for 4K 60fps YouTube Live on Indian Fiber

For YouTube Live at 4K/60, use 50 Mbps for H.264 or 35 Mbps for AV1/H.265 in OBS, with CBR, 2-second keyframes, and enough stable upload capacity.

For YouTube Live at 4K/60 fps, set OBS to 50,000 Kbps with H.264 or 35,000 Kbps with AV1 or H.265, if your encoder supports the selected codec. Use CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends 20% upload headroom, so plan for about 60 Mbps of stable available upload for the H.264 setting or 42 Mbps for AV1/H.265. These are upload targets—not advertised download speeds or guarantees for Indian fiber plans.

Recommended OBS settings for YouTube Live at 4K/60

YouTube’s current Help guidance, accessed in 2026, recommends different bitrates by codec for 2160p at 60 fps. Choose the setting for the codec OBS will actually send; the lower bitrate is not a reason to select a codec your hardware cannot encode reliably.

Codec sent from OBS YouTube-recommended bitrate for 2160p/60 Approximate stable available upload target with 20% headroom
H.264 50 Mbps (50,000 Kbps) About 60 Mbps
AV1 or H.265 35 Mbps (35,000 Kbps) About 42 Mbps

The bitrate recommendations are from YouTube Help’s live encoder settings. The upload targets apply YouTube’s headroom recommendation to the video bitrate; audio and any backup stream require additional capacity.

Set the stream output in OBS

  1. Open OBS output settings. Go to Settings > Output and select the streaming output controls. OBS labels and fields can vary by version and encoder. Pick an encoder/codec actually available on your computer. For NVIDIA NVENC-specific controls, see the OBS NVENC guide.
  2. Choose rate control and bitrate. Set rate control to CBR. Enter 50,000 Kbps for H.264, or 35,000 Kbps for AV1/H.265. Confirm the selected encoder is using that codec.
  3. Set keyframes. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube says the interval should not exceed 4 seconds.
  4. Use YouTube’s live settings. In YouTube Live Control Room, configure the stream and use RTMPS, YouTube’s recommended secure streaming protocol. YouTube lists a maximum frame rate of 60 fps for this setting.
  5. Test the actual scene. Run a private or unlisted test before an event, with representative motion and audio. During the stream, monitor YouTube’s stream health and OBS’s statistics rather than relying on a single speed test.

See YouTube’s encoder settings and recommendations for the platform’s current ingest requirements.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

How much upload speed Indian fiber needs

The useful measure is sustained upload capacity available to the stream at the place and time you will broadcast—not the plan’s advertised download speed and not the word “fiber.” YouTube notes that download can exceed outbound upload and that other people sharing the network can reduce stream capacity. Its guidance recommends leaving 20% room above the total stream bitrate.

  • H.264 at 50 Mbps: target approximately 60 Mbps of stable available upload, plus capacity for audio and any backup stream.
  • AV1/H.265 at 35 Mbps: target approximately 42 Mbps of stable available upload, again allowing extra capacity for audio and any backup stream.

These figures are planning calculations from YouTube’s 20% headroom advice, not official speed thresholds or Indian ISP guarantees. No India-wide fiber upload figure or provider-specific guarantee is established by that guidance. Actual upstream performance depends on provider, plan, location, network conditions, and competing household or office traffic.

Check the connection you will use

  • Run an upload speed test from the streaming computer, preferably over a wired connection, and repeat it near the time of the planned broadcast. YouTube specifically advises: “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.”
  • Check whether other devices or users will be uploading or using the connection during the stream.
  • If YouTube backup streaming is configured, include both the primary and backup bitrates in the capacity calculation.
  • If Wi-Fi appears inconsistent, testing a wired local connection (for example, with a suitable Ethernet cable) can help isolate the wireless link. It cannot increase the upload capacity your ISP provides.

Troubleshoot buffering, dropped frames, or poor stream health

  • Upload is below the target or varies widely: pause competing uploads, retest at the stream location and time, and check the service plan’s upload capacity with the provider. Do not infer upstream capacity from download speed.
  • OBS reports dropped frames or YouTube reports an unstable connection: reduce network contention and test a wired link if currently on Wi-Fi. Verify that the bitrate fits available upload, including audio and any backup stream.
  • The encoder struggles or the image stutters despite good upload: the computer may not sustain the chosen codec and 4K/60 workload. Try an encoder the hardware supports reliably, then use that codec’s corresponding YouTube bitrate recommendation; test the full scene before going live.
  • You cannot find an AV1 or H.265 option: available codecs depend on OBS version and encoder hardware. Use the H.264 recommendation if that is the supported choice rather than selecting a bitrate for a codec you are not sending.
  • Keyframe or ingest warnings appear: check that the keyframe interval is 2 seconds (and no more than 4 seconds), the stream is configured for the intended resolution and frame rate, and YouTube’s current live settings are followed.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep uploaded videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube live stream rather than broadcast a live OBS scene, StreamNeo runs the loop from the cloud: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded quality up to 4K/60 at one flat price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. It plays uploaded videos to YouTube, not a camera feed. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
