This can reconnect the stream output after a connection drops, but OBS’s documented reconnect controls do not promise to restart streaming after an encoder error has stopped the output. For a meditation stream, treat a network interruption and an encoder failure as separate problems, and confirm the stream is live at its destination after recovery.
Set up OBS automatic reconnect
- In OBS Studio, open Settings → Advanced.
- Enable Automatically Reconnect.
- Review Retry Delay and Maximum Retries. Choose a retry window that fits how quickly your connection or streaming destination is likely to recover; there is no universally appropriate value. OBS describes retry timing as doubling on each attempt to avoid overloading services. A retry count of zero disables reconnecting.
- Apply the change, then check the destination’s live status if OBS reconnects during a broadcast.
These controls are for reconnecting the streaming output. They should not be treated as a guaranteed automatic restart for an encoder that has failed or stopped.
Determine whether it is a connection problem or an encoder failure
Dropped frames or intermittent disconnections
OBS’s connection troubleshooting guidance identifies network problems between your computer and the remote ingest server as a common cause of dropped frames and intermittent disconnections. Follow its stream connection troubleshooting steps for this symptom. Automatic reconnect may help restore the output after a disconnection, but it does not make the underlying network path reliable.
“An encoder error occurred while streaming.”
OBS reports an encoder error separately from an output disconnection. Capture the exact error and an OBS log, then investigate the encoder failure itself. The official OBS documentation describes reconnect settings but does not provide a one-click procedure that automatically restarts an output after an encoder error. Do not assume enabling Automatically Reconnect will recover a stopped encoder.

A source stops but OBS keeps streaming
If the meditation audio or video source itself stops—for example, because a camera or other source loses power—that is a source-recovery issue, not necessarily an output-reconnect issue. A user report on the OBS forum describes a camera/source that did not resume automatically; it is an individual case, not proof of how every setup behaves.
Check the destination after a reconnect
Do not assume that OBS showing an active connection means viewers can see the stream. Check the destination’s live status after a reconnect or encoder incident. A Twitch community report describes OBS appearing to stream while the platform showed the channel offline. That is an anecdote, not a general rule, but it illustrates why the destination’s status matters. OBS’s official guidance does not establish that viewers will see uninterrupted meditation playback during a reconnect; a gap or interruption may occur.
