Short answer: the available Streamlabs documentation does not confirm an end-to-end way to launch Streamlabs Desktop at Windows startup, play a prerecorded playlist, and begin broadcasting without you. Streamlabs documents a Go Live flow that asks you to confirm the stream; Windows can schedule an app launch, but that alone does not start a broadcast. Verify playlist playback and unattended streaming support in your exact Streamlabs Desktop version before relying on it.
What you can—and cannot—set up with confidence
Streamlabs’ Get started with Streamlabs Desktop guide, dated July 22, 2026, describes configuring scenes and sources, choosing a platform through Go Live, entering stream details, and selecting “Confirm & Go Live.” That sequence includes a user confirmation step. Its Quick Start guide, dated May 20, 2026, covers scenes, sources, platform connection, and audio, but does not document launching at boot or automatically going live.
So separate three functions that are easy to conflate: Windows launching the application, Streamlabs loading and playing the playlist, and Streamlabs beginning the broadcast. The reviewed documentation establishes neither playlist-capable playback nor automatic broadcast start for Streamlabs Desktop. Do not treat a successful app launch as proof that the other two functions will happen.
Check playlist support in your Streamlabs version
- Open Streamlabs Desktop and inspect its available sources. Confirm that your installed version offers a source that can play a playlist of prerecorded media. The reviewed Streamlabs guides do not identify a playlist source or document its controls.
- Configure and preview playback if the source is available. Set the desired sequence and loop behavior, check that each media path points to a file the Windows account can access, and verify audio. Preview the playlist from beginning to end, including the transition from the last item back to the first if you expect it to loop.
- Save the scene or collection and test it again. Close and reopen Streamlabs normally, then confirm the intended scene and media still load. A playlist that works only while the original files are accessible through a temporary path will not be dependable after a restart.
If your version does not provide a playlist-capable source, the OBS instructions below are not a Streamlabs workaround. Use only a Streamlabs-documented option for your build, or choose another workflow whose playlist support is documented.

Schedule Streamlabs to launch when Windows starts
Windows Task Scheduler can run routine tasks when a selected trigger occurs, such as a system event or a specified time. Microsoft’s Task Scheduler for developers reference explains this general capability; it does not provide a verified Streamlabs startup recipe.
- Open Task Scheduler. Search for “Task Scheduler” from the Windows Start menu.
- Create a task with a startup trigger. In the task’s Triggers settings, choose a trigger appropriate to your Windows setup, such as when the computer starts. The precise choice depends on whether Streamlabs should run before sign-in or only in your user session.
- Set the action to launch Streamlabs Desktop. Use the installed application’s executable path. Do not assume a path from another computer or installation; locate the executable on your system.
- Choose user-session conditions deliberately. If the application needs your desktop session, audio devices, or saved sign-in state, configure the task to run in the interactive user session and test it after signing in. A task configured to run without an interactive session may not behave like an application you launch from the desktop.
- Save the task, then test a real restart. Confirm whether Streamlabs opens, whether the expected scene and media load, and whether the playlist plays. Separately check the streaming platform to establish whether a broadcast actually began.
Task Scheduler can start an application; it cannot prove that Streamlabs credentials remain valid, media paths resolve, the network is ready, or the broadcast starts. A restart test is essential, and an unattended setup should not be trusted until you have verified the public stream state as well as local playback.

Why OBS instructions do not establish a Streamlabs method
OBS Studio documents a VLC Video source that can play a playlist, with loop and shuffle options. Its documentation says VLC is required and that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. OBS also documents the --startstreaming launch parameter and explains adding parameters to a Windows shortcut; it recommends setting a working directory for scheduled-task or other automated launches. These are OBS Studio features, not verified Streamlabs Desktop features.
In particular, do not copy OBS’s --startstreaming flag into a Streamlabs shortcut or scheduled task unless Streamlabs documents it for your installed version or you have verified that exact version yourself. A parameter accepted by one application is not evidence that another application supports it.

Troubleshoot a failed startup test
- Streamlabs does not open: check the executable path and task history, then confirm the task’s account and sign-in conditions. Windows scheduling and Streamlabs’ own startup behavior are separate.
- The app opens, but the playlist does not: check whether your version actually has a playlist-capable source, whether the saved scene is selected, and whether every file path remains accessible to the scheduled user.
- Video plays but audio does not: inspect the source’s audio routing and the scene’s output settings in Streamlabs, then verify audio in preview before attempting another restart test.
- The playlist plays locally, but there is no live broadcast: the application launch has not started the stream. Streamlabs’ documented flow requires selecting a platform, entering stream details, and confirming with “Confirm & Go Live.” The reviewed documentation does not establish a way to bypass that confirmation at boot.
- The stream starts but stops or is unavailable after a restart: check the platform’s live status, connection, and account authorization. Do not rely on an unattended setup until a controlled restart test confirms the complete path from launch to public broadcast.
