YouTube documents 24/7 broadcasts, but the encoder or production setup must handle looping and recovery; the documented workflow does not guarantee an uninterrupted stream.
What you need before you go live
An eligible YouTube channel
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Its “Get started” guidance also says creators must be at least 16 to livestream. Check channel eligibility before preparing a long-running broadcast; a stream setup cannot bypass a channel restriction.
A video feed and an encoder
Prepare the animated video and audio you intend to broadcast, then use an encoder workflow to send that feed to YouTube. YouTube describes encoder streaming as suitable for content with overlays and other production hardware. You will need the stream setup details from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and an encoder capable of sending the selected media and settings.
Rights for every part of the program
Clear the actual assets in the stream: animation, musical composition, recording, performance, and any other included material. A traditional rhyme may be in the public domain, but that does not automatically clear a modern arrangement, recording, performance, or cartoon based on it. Keep copies of licenses and permissions so you can identify what each one covers.

YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights to exploit live content worldwide, including music rights. If you use third-party licensed content, check whether its rights owner must allowlist your channel in Content ID. YouTube says a live stream can be replaced by a placeholder when a third-party match is detected, and may be interrupted or terminated if the matched content remains.
Prepare a loop that is safe to broadcast continuously
Make the loop deliberate
Assemble the animation and audio into a feed that can repeat cleanly. Check the transition between the end and beginning of the loop for abrupt silence, clipped sound, black frames, or a visible jump. These are production checks, not a YouTube-prescribed loop setting. Test with representative movement and audio before you rely on the feed.

Keep the program distinctive and rights-aware
Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate questions. YouTube applies its monetization policies to livestreams and expects original, authentic content; repetitive or mass-produced programming may be ineligible. Its July 15, 2025 policy update clarified that “inauthentic content” includes repetitive or mass-produced material. Having permission to use assets does not by itself make a stream eligible for monetization.
YouTube says CC BY material can be monetized when the license grants commercial-use rights, and attribution may be required. Check the actual license terms and provide attribution as required. YouTube cannot grant permission to reuse someone else’s work.

Create the broadcast in YouTube Studio
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, use the Live Control Room to create or schedule a broadcast. Choose the encoder workflow and note the stream setup details that YouTube displays for that broadcast.
- Configure the encoder destination. Enter the stream details from Live Control Room in your encoder. Treat the stream key as a credential: do not publish it, include it in a public screenshot, or share it with anyone who should not be able to send video to your channel.
- Choose a supported connection and media format. YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS for encoder streaming and recommends RTMPS. Its listed video codecs include H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1; listed audio formats include AAC and MP3. Choose a combination supported by both your encoder and the YouTube workflow you are using.
- Set a sustainable output profile. Use constant bitrate (CBR), select a resolution and frame rate your connection can sustain, and match the bitrate to that profile. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval; it says the interval should not exceed four seconds.
- Start with YouTube’s stream setup and confirm the incoming feed. Start the encoder output and check Live Control Room for the incoming video, audio, and stream-health messages before making the broadcast public or relying on it.
Choose a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate
Bitrate depends on resolution and frame rate, as well as the codec and connection. The figures below are YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrates for the specified profiles, not universal minimum requirements. If the upload connection cannot sustain the selected output, lower the profile rather than assuming that a higher bitrate will improve a stream that is dropping frames or disconnecting.

The 720p figure is higher than the listed 1080p figure; do not infer a general rule that lower resolution needs more bitrate. Consult YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance for a different frame rate, resolution, or codec. The settings page can change, so check it when you configure a new stream.

Test the complete stream and monitor it
Test before the broadcast
YouTube’s advice is direct: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Run a test using audio and movement representative of the planned program. Check speech or music levels, animation motion, the loop transition, and whether the stream remains stable at the selected profile. A short still-image test will not reveal problems that occur only during motion or a loop change.
Watch Live Control Room during operation
Monitor stream health and messages in Live Control Room while the broadcast is running. Treat a healthy encoder output and a healthy YouTube ingest as separate things to check: a local encoder can appear to be sending while the YouTube stream is reporting a problem. If stream health degrades, inspect the encoder’s output and connection, then reduce the output profile if the connection cannot sustain it.

Plan for the 24/7 part
YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation describes a channel broadcasting a 24/7 live feed and keeping that broadcast active while creating a separate broadcast from the same stream. That documents a continuous-broadcast pattern; it is not a one-click media-loop feature and does not specify a particular looping application or automatic recovery product.
For a do-it-yourself setup, make sure the encoder workflow actually repeats the prepared media and that someone can check the encoder and Live Control Room when problems occur. The cited YouTube guidance does not establish a particular computer specification, loop application, restart monitor, backup connection, or recovery procedure. Do not assume that creating a scheduled broadcast alone will restart a failed encoder or restore a dropped feed.
Check the archive as well as the live feed
Ending the live broadcast does not necessarily end rights checks. YouTube says archived broadcasts may receive Content ID claims after the stream ends, and archived live content remains subject to the applicable terms. Review the archive and any claims or restrictions rather than treating a clean live session as final clearance.
