You can run a continuous Krishna bhajan stream from Linux with OBS by looping one media file or a playlist, then sending OBS’s output to YouTube Live. You’ll need devotional recordings and visuals you have permission to stream, a reliable computer and internet connection, and a YouTube stream URL and key. A local setup depends on your machine and connection staying online, so plan how you will monitor it and recover from interruptions.

Before you start: check rights and YouTube access

Use recordings and visuals you are entitled to broadcast publicly, and check separately whether your permissions cover an archived replay. Rights depend on the specific recording and imagery; the fact that a song is devotional does not establish that a particular recording is cleared.

If this is your first YouTube live stream, YouTube says enabling live streaming may take up to 24 hours. Start the enablement process before you plan to go live. Create or select the stream in YouTube Live Control Room, where you can retrieve the current ingest URL and stream key. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming

Choose how OBS will play the bhajans

One recording: Media Source

In OBS, create a scene, select Sources > + > Media Source, and choose the file. Enable Loop in the source properties so the recording starts again when it reaches the end. OBS lists MP3, AAC, Ogg, and WAV as supported audio formats; supported video formats include MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM. Media Source is available on Linux. The VLC Video source appears only when VLC is installed. Match the architecture: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. If the source does not appear after installation, confirm that the VLC and OBS versions have matching architectures, then restart OBS. OBS Project: Media Sources

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. Get the current ingest details. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the stream and copy the stream URL and stream key shown for it. Do not rely on an endpoint copied from an old guide.
  2. Choose RTMPS when available. YouTube defines RTMPS as RTMP over TLS/SSL. Copy the RTMPS URL provided in Live Control Room together with the key. Never publish or share the key: anyone who has it may be able to send a stream to your channel. YouTube Help: Stream using an encoder
  3. Enter the details in OBS. Open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service where available, and enter the stream key. If you need to enter a custom server, use the URL currently displayed by YouTube. Labels can vary by OBS release; use the YouTube-provided URL and key rather than guessing an endpoint.
  4. Check the scene and start safely. Confirm the intended source is visible, the audio meter responds during playback, and the YouTube preview receives the correct content before leaving the stream unattended.

For basic configuration, OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard can help set initial options. OBS Project: Auto-Configuration Wizard

Test the stream and watch for interruptions

Before relying on a long-running broadcast, observe the YouTube preview and OBS audio meter, then monitor OBS’s connection indicator and dropped-frames counter. OBS explains that a rising dropped-frames count combined with a yellow or red connection square means the connection to the streaming service is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. OBS Project: Dropped Frames and General Connection Issues

Common problems and fixes

  • Playlist source is missing: Install VLC and ensure its architecture matches OBS—64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC—then restart OBS.
  • The file stops at the end: For a single file, open Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a playlist, check Loop Playlist in VLC Video properties.
  • YouTube does not receive the stream: Verify that YouTube live streaming is enabled, then copy the current URL and key from Live Control Room and check the stream settings in OBS.
  • Dropped frames increase and the connection indicator turns yellow or red: The connection may be unstable or unable to sustain the configured bitrate. Check the network connection and use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard to help establish suitable basic settings.
  • The stream stops when nobody is watching the computer: OBS is running locally, so the Linux machine, OBS, power, and network must remain available. Arrange monitoring and a way to restart or recover the stream after a computer, application, power, or network failure.
