Verify live access first, test the complete stream before launch, and do not assume that a publicly available NCERT PDF or video is cleared for rebroadcast.
Before you start: check live access and content rights
Enable live streaming on the channel
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance.
Clear the material you plan to broadcast
Confirm permission for each lesson page, image, recording, and other third-party material, including the planned format, territory, and any commercial use. Public access to an NCERT PDF or video does not itself grant permission to rebroadcast it. NCERT’s digital citizenship material says copyrighted work should not be used without permission from its creator or owner; its copyright notice warns that publishing NCERT textbook content for commercial sale without permission may lead to action under the Copyright Act 1957. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party content and may replace the feed with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even licensed content may require the rights holder to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist. Read NCERT’s copyright-infringement notice and YouTube’s guidance on live-streaming restrictions for copyrighted content.
Choose an encoder and prepare the stream
YouTube Live supports software encoders and standalone hardware encoders. An encoder sends your video feed to YouTube; choose one that can play the lesson material and remain running for your intended schedule. The exact controls differ by encoder, so follow its documentation for input and output settings. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the workflow.

- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create a stream or select one you have already set up.
- Copy the server URL and stream key. Enter them in the encoder’s streaming destination fields. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or include it in screenshots, public documents, or recordings.
- Set the lesson playback. Arrange the lesson video or playlist in your encoder workflow. Check the sequence, audio, transitions, and whether the material is suitable to repeat continuously.
- Choose stream behavior in YouTube Studio. Review latency, DVR, and auto-start/auto-stop options. DVR lets viewers pause and resume during a live stream. Decide whether those behaviors suit your lesson schedule and encoder operation, then test the choice before launch.
YouTube’s stream settings guidance covers the Live Control Room options. Keep the stream key private; if it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
Size and test the internet connection
Measure outbound upload capacity at the location and time the stream will run; download speed is not the relevant figure. YouTube recommends keeping the streaming bitrate within available upload bandwidth and allowing 20% headroom. A connection that barely meets the encoder’s bitrate can become unstable when conditions fluctuate. Prefer a reliable network, and consider a compatible Cat 6 Ethernet cable between the encoder computer and router if a wired connection suits your setup. Check that both devices have compatible ports and that the cable reaches; YouTube does not require Ethernet or a particular cable type.

Consult YouTube’s network and streaming tips when planning bitrate and connectivity. The appropriate bitrate and video settings depend on the encoder output and your connection; use the encoder’s supported settings and YouTube’s current guidance rather than guessing a universal configuration.
Test the full broadcast before leaving it running
- Start the encoder in a private or otherwise appropriate test setup, and check that Live Control Room receives its feed and shows a preview.
- Watch the preview for moving video, clear audio, correct lesson order, and any unwanted black frames or pauses.
- Open the viewer-facing watch page and confirm it is accessible with the audience setting you intend to use.
- Check stream health and confirm the picture and sound remain stable. If you use a backup encoder, test switching to it before relying on it.
- Confirm how the stream behaves when the encoder starts and stops, and whether viewers can pause and resume using DVR.
YouTube recommends setting up encoders in advance, monitoring stream quality, and testing failover when a backup encoder is used. A 24/7 schedule also needs a person or process able to notice and respond when the encoder or connection stops. YouTube’s help pages do not prescribe one universal around-the-clock architecture or guarantee uptime.

Operate a continuous lessons stream responsibly
- Monitor the broadcast: check stream health and watch for encoder, audio, video, or connectivity interruptions.
- Plan a response: decide who will restart the encoder or connection, and whether a tested backup is available.
- Recheck rights when the playlist changes: a new page, image, recording, or third-party item may need its own permission.
- Keep access secure: restrict access to the stream key and update the encoder if you replace that key.
NCERT’s Annual Report 2021–22 described e-Pathshala as a portal and app offering educational resources, including textbooks and audio-visual material. It also reported that 12 PM eVIDYA DTH channels carried daily fresh recorded programmes for 2–3 hours, repeated 11 times for Classes 1–10 and 7 times for Classes 11–12. Those figures describe the report’s DTH programming, not a current YouTube schedule or permission for an independent channel to rebroadcast the content. See NCERT’s annual reports.
Common problems and what to check
- Live streaming is unavailable: verify the channel and check for a restriction within the previous 90 days. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: check that the correct server URL and stream key from Live Control Room are entered in the encoder, and that the encoder is actually sending.
- The stream breaks or looks unstable: measure upload capacity again, compare it with the stream bitrate, preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and check for network disruptions.
- The stream is interrupted for a copyright issue: review the specific material and confirm the required permissions. A license may not be enough if the rights holder must also allowlist the channel in Content ID.
- Viewers cannot use the stream as expected: check the audience-facing watch page and review the selected DVR and start/stop behavior in YouTube Studio.
