To run a recorded lecture continuously, create an encoder stream in Studio and send it a feed from streaming software or a hardware encoder configured to repeat the file. Test the entire setup before leaving it unattended. A stream lasting more than 12 hours may not be archived by YouTube, so keep a separate recording or publish the lecture as a normal video for on-demand viewing.
What you need before you start
- An eligible YouTube channel: YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. The general guidance also sets a minimum age of 16. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- A finished lecture file: Check its picture and audio from beginning to end. You may want to add a slate or transition so the repeat point does not look like an accidental interruption.
- An encoder or streaming tool that can loop local media: YouTube Studio supplies the broadcast endpoint; the encoder or playback tool supplies and repeats the video. Confirm the selected tool’s current instructions for looping media and restarting after a failure. The YouTube setup guidance does not establish loop controls for a particular product.
- A reliable upload connection and a recovery plan: Keep the encoder connected and powered, allow bandwidth headroom, and decide how you will detect and recover from an interruption.
- Permission for every part of the lecture: Check the rights for music, slides, images, and video clips, including permission to livestream and archive them.
Create the live stream in YouTube Studio
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. In the Live Control Room, choose the stream workflow to create a broadcast. Interface labels can change; follow YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions if the controls differ.
- Set the broadcast details. Enter a title and description, choose the intended visibility, and set other available metadata. If viewers should have an event page before the stream starts, use the Manage workflow to schedule the broadcast.
- Copy the connection details. Copy the YouTube server URL and stream key shown for the stream. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it, and reset it if it is exposed.
- Connect your encoder. Use the encoder’s YouTube integration if available. Otherwise, enter the server URL and stream key in its server or RTMP connection fields. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP; use it if your encoder and chosen connection workflow support it. See YouTube’s encoder settings and streaming recommendations.
- Set up playback and looping in the encoder. Select the lecture file and enable continuous repeat or looping using that tool’s own controls. Configure automatic restart if the tool supports it. Do not assume YouTube Studio will repeat an uploaded file: the loop is handled by the playback or encoder tool.
- Start the encoder and check Studio. Wait for the Live Control Room preview and check that the correct lecture, audio, and stream details appear before starting the public broadcast.
Test the loop before leaving it unattended
Run a private or unlisted test first. YouTube’s published event-preparation advice recommends setting up encoders at least two hours before an event, starting them at least 15 minutes beforehand, checking the Live Control Room preview, testing encoder failover, verifying that viewers can access the event, and monitoring audio and video quality. Treat those timings as prelaunch guidance, not a guarantee of continuous uptime.
- Watch through the lecture’s end and repeat point. Confirm the next loop starts cleanly, without a blank interval or lost audio.
- Open the watch page on a phone and a computer, and verify it has the intended visibility and plays for the intended audience.
- If you enable local recording, confirm that the file is being written and continues to grow.
- If your setup has backup ingestion, automatic restart, or another failover path, test the failure and recovery rather than assuming it works.
- Check the network and the Live Control Room during the test. A shared connection may leave less bandwidth available than its advertised upload rate suggests.
Allow for upload bandwidth and interruptions
YouTube recommends leaving roughly 20% upload-bandwidth margin beyond the stream’s total bitrate. For example, if the encoder’s total stream bitrate is 10 Mbps, aim for roughly 12 Mbps of available upload capacity. This is platform guidance, not a measured guarantee; other devices and people sharing the network can reduce what is actually available to the encoder. YouTube’s streaming tips also recommend advance setup, preview checks, failover testing, and ongoing quality monitoring.
Use a connection you can monitor, and plan what happens if it drops. A connection disruption can break the stream. Recovery may require restarting the encoder or reconnecting it to the broadcast, depending on the tool and setup, so test that procedure before the lecture is left running unattended.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Plan separately for replay and DVR
A 24/7 stream is not a dependable single archive. YouTube describes automatic archiving for streams shorter than 12 hours and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind can also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. See YouTube’s archive guidance and DVR guidance.
If viewers need reliable on-demand access, keep a local copy and upload the lecture as a regular YouTube video. Shorter broadcasts may make individual archives more practical, but they require you to manage stream endings, transitions, and restarts; do not treat them as an unattended continuous broadcast.

Check copyright, privacy, and chat
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. If it identifies such content, a placeholder can replace the live feed; continued use can interrupt or terminate the broadcast. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the content provider to hold the rights needed for both the live stream and archived content. If licensed material is included, confirm that the license covers YouTube livestreaming and arrange any required Content ID allowlisting. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and its livestream terms and conditions.
- Remove private information from slides, screen captures, and any material visible in the feed.
- Choose the intended privacy setting before the broadcast.
- If chat is enabled, decide who will monitor and moderate it while the lecture loops.
Choose the encoder path that fits your setup
YouTube supports software encoders and dedicated hardware encoders. Neither category alone guarantees that a specific product can repeat a local lecture file or recover from a failure. Before choosing, verify the selected product’s current documentation for these requirements:

Or let it run in the cloud
If you would rather not keep a home computer or encoder running, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload the lecture or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud; it does not stream from a camera and supports YouTube only.
Nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams your uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; StreamNeo does not re-encode it or charge quality tiers. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. A slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, recovery, and StreamNeo team support. The product is the same on every plan; only the billing period changes. UPI and cards are accepted in India; card checkout is available worldwide.
