To loop recorded math lessons on YouTube Live with OBS, add a local video as an OBS Media Source and enable Loop, or use a VLC Video source with a playlist and enable Loop Playlist. Connect OBS to a YouTube encoder stream with its server URL and stream key, check the preview and watch page, then start the broadcast. For a genuinely uninterrupted 24/7 stream, your computer, OBS, power and internet must stay available.
Choose how your lessons should play
| What you want | OBS source | Setting | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Repeat one lesson | Media Source with a local video file | Enable Loop | Simple setup; viewers see that same file each time it ends. |
| Cycle through lessons in a chosen order | VLC Video source with a playlist | Enable Loop Playlist | Requires VLC to be installed; you control the sequence. |
OBS Media Source supports common local video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM. OBS’s VLC Video source needs VLC installed; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. See the OBS Sources Guide and OBS Media Sources documentation.
Set up YouTube Live before the broadcast
- Check channel eligibility. Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio and confirm that the channel is verified and not restricted from live streaming. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave this until broadcast day.
- Create an encoder stream. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create a stream and set its title, description, privacy and schedule, if desired.
- Copy the connection details. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the encoder stream. The key authorizes an encoder to send video to your channel; keep it private. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio.
Follow the controls shown for the specific stream you create: depending on the workflow, you may start sending from OBS and then select Go live in the Live Control Room, or start the encoder stream directly and check that the watch page is available. YouTube’s current steps are in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Build and check the lesson scene in OBS
- Create a scene. In OBS, add a scene for the lesson output so the source and audio can be checked before streaming.
- Add the playback source. For one file, add Media Source, select the local lesson video and enable Loop. For a course rotation, add VLC Video, add the files in the intended order and enable Loop Playlist.
- Review the lesson sequence. Play it locally in OBS. Check the order, transitions, audio levels and whether pauses, end cards or silence repeat as intended. For a continuous rotation, use files edited to avoid unintended long black gaps or silence.
- Check readability. View the output at the resolution you plan to stream. Confirm that equations, diagrams and written steps remain legible, not just that the video fills the frame.
Connect OBS and choose stream settings
- Open OBS streaming settings. Select YouTube if it is offered, or enter the server URL and stream key copied from YouTube Studio.
- Choose resolution, frame rate and video codec, then use YouTube’s current encoder settings table to select the matching bitrate. The recommended bitrate differs by output mode—for example, 1080p at 30 fps and 1080p at 60 fps do not share one recommendation.
- Use RTMPS when configuring the ingestion server if available; YouTube recommends it for secure ingestion.
- Start streaming from OBS. Wait for the incoming preview in the Live Control Room and use its Go live control if the selected workflow requires it.
For a lesson, prioritize legible writing and a stable picture over a higher frame rate that does not improve the instruction. Use the up-to-date guidance at YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions page rather than carrying a bitrate number across different resolutions, frame rates or codecs.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. - Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Test the picture, sound and public playback
- Test with representative lesson audio and motion, not only a static title card.
- Check the Live Control Room preview for framing, readable equations and audio.
- Open the public watch page and confirm the broadcast is available there; also check on a mobile device.
- Verify upload capacity, not download speed. YouTube’s general streaming advice recommends leaving 20% upload bandwidth headroom.
- Monitor stream health during the broadcast and decide who will respond if OBS, the computer or the connection stops.
YouTube’s guidance on network and stream-health checks is in Streaming tips. Its YouTube live streaming tips also notes that expensive equipment is not required.
Plan for 24/7 operation and replay
What must stay running with OBS
A local OBS broadcast depends on the computer, OBS, power and internet connection remaining available. YouTube recommends a reliable network, checking stream health and verifying any configured backup encoder. These checks help you notice trouble; they do not guarantee that one computer will recover from every crash or outage. Decide who will monitor the stream and what they should do if it stops.

What happens to a 24-hour replay
YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That stated rule does not promise that a single continuous 24/7 session will be archived as one video. If the replay matters, consider shorter sessions or a separate local recording, and test the arrangement before relying on it. See YouTube’s encoder stream guidance.
Rights, copyright and monetization
Use only lessons and included material you have the necessary rights to stream and archive, including music. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match may result in a placeholder, interruption or termination. Even licensed third-party content may require its owner to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and its livestream terms and conditions.

YouTube says encoder streams can be monetized if the channel is in the YouTube Partner Program. That does not establish that a particular channel qualifies or that repetitive prerecorded lessons will qualify under current monetization policies. Continuous playback by itself is not a guarantee of monetization.
Common setup problems and fixes
- Live streaming is not available yet: Check channel eligibility and restrictions in YouTube Studio. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
- The YouTube preview receives no video: Recheck the selected server URL and stream key in OBS against the details for the current YouTube stream. Keep the key private and reset it if it may have been exposed.
- The VLC source is missing: Install VLC, then confirm its architecture matches OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- A lesson does not repeat: Check that Loop is enabled on the Media Source, or Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source.
- Equations are hard to read: Review the OBS output at the actual stream resolution and adjust the lesson framing or output settings before going live.
- Playback has gaps or unexpected silence: Preview the entire sequence locally and inspect source files for pauses, black frames, end cards or silence that recur at each loop.
- The stream drops or playback is unstable: Check upload headroom and YouTube stream health, then inspect the computer, OBS, power and network. A local setup depends on all of them being available.
- The expected replay is missing or incomplete: A continuous 24-hour stream is beyond YouTube’s stated automatic-archive condition of under 12 hours. Use shorter sessions or a separate recording if you need a replay.
- The broadcast is interrupted for a content match: Check rights for every video and audio element; contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting when applicable.
