For a 24/7 playlist broadcast, you need three parts: a player that continuously outputs the playlist, Restreamer to receive and publish that output, and YouTube Live Control Room to configure the broadcast. Test the complete chain privately before relying on it.
What you need for a 24/7 playlist stream
Plan the setup as three separate components. The playlist player supplies a continuous video-and-audio signal; Restreamer receives that signal and publishes it; YouTube receives the encoder feed through a stream key configured in Live Control Room.
- A playlist source: a separate player or system that can advance through your chosen videos and loop them continuously. Restreamer’s documented input wizard supports network sources such as HTTP/HTTPS (including HLS and DASH), RTP, RTSP, RTMP and SRT. The reviewed documentation does not describe a built-in local-file playlist scheduler, so do not assume that uploading files to Restreamer is enough.
- An always-available Restreamer host: for self-hosting, a Docker-capable machine that stays on and can reach the playlist source and the internet. Documentation gives no minimum hardware specification or guaranteed uptime.
- A YouTube channel with Live enabled: check the current YouTube Studio prompts. Google’s live guide says first-time activation can take 24 hours, but this can change or vary; confirm the status in your account rather than relying on that as a guaranteed delay.
- Rights to every playlist item: verify that you can livestream and rebroadcast the video and audio, and retain any resulting on-demand archive.
Restreamer’s input and publication interfaces can change between versions. Use the documentation for the release you install if a label or screen differs.
Choose and verify the playlist player
Before configuring YouTube, choose a player that outputs a continuous stream in a format Restreamer can receive. Keep it separate from Restreamer unless the exact release you use explicitly documents local-file sequencing and looping.
#1 Best Overall

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check the behavior that matters
- It supports your video and audio files and can advance through the whole playlist, then loop without manual intervention.
- It produces a continuous signal using an input type accepted by Restreamer, such as HTTP/HTTPS, HLS, DASH, RTP, RTSP, RTMP or SRT.
- Transitions do not leave YouTube with a prolonged blank or invalid signal, and the audio path remains active even when a clip is silent.
- It can reconnect after a source interruption, and you have a way to monitor or recover it unattended.
The reviewed Restreamer materials do not establish a preferred player or a native playlist feature, nor do they provide comparative reliability or cost figures for different players.
Install and secure Restreamer
Restreamer’s official Quick Start describes running the software in a Docker container, with persistent mounts for /core/config and /core/data. Its sample command maps host ports 8080 and 8181 to the same container ports, plus 1935, 1936 and UDP 6000. Treat those as documented sample mappings, not a requirement to expose every port publicly in every deployment.

- Follow the official Restreamer Quick Start for the release and environment you are using. Create persistent configuration and data mounts so a container restart does not discard them.
- Expose only the network ports your setup actually needs. Restreamer’s guide discusses standard HTTP/HTTPS ports and notes that public port forwarding is needed for full functionality; the precise requirements depend on your source, host and deployment.
- Set a unique, strong password for the management interface. Do not leave default credentials in place, and avoid exposing the interface publicly unless you have secured access appropriately.
- Start the container and confirm you can reach the interface from the intended admin device before adding sources.
Add the playlist output as a source
- In Restreamer, open the source wizard and choose the input type matching the playlist player’s output. Enter the source address or connection details supplied by that player.
- Select an available video profile appropriate to the incoming source. Confirm that the picture appears in Restreamer before configuring publication.
- Configure audio deliberately. Restreamer notes that some platforms, including YouTube, require an active audio channel. If the playlist has no sound, provide a silent audio track rather than omitting audio.
- Let the playlist run through at least one item transition. Check that the next video appears and audio remains valid before you move on.
For the wizard’s supported inputs and audio guidance, see the Restreamer configuration wizard documentation.
Connect Restreamer to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or select the live stream, then set its title, description and visibility.
- Copy the stream key shown for the broadcast. Treat it like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- In Restreamer, select Publication Service, choose YouTube, enter the valid YouTube streaming ID/key, and save the connection.
- Start the source and publication. Confirm that Restreamer shows incoming bitrate and that YouTube receives a preview.
- Check the preview, title, visibility, picture and audio in YouTube. When ready, press Go Live in Live Control Room. Follow the current Studio prompts if its interface differs from these documented labels.
Restreamer’s YouTube publication guide is at YouTube publication in Restreamer. YouTube’s encoder workflow is described in its live streaming guide.

Test privately before leaving it unattended
Set the YouTube broadcast to private for a full-chain test. Google’s live production guide recommends testing the complete setup privately. Do not treat a short preview as proof that a 24/7 broadcast will stay connected.
- Verify that the playlist advances, loops, and produces the intended audio between clips.
- Confirm YouTube receives the stream and that its preview remains healthy while the source changes items.
- Run the system long enough to observe whether the player, Restreamer host and network remain available and whether recovery works after a test interruption.
- Decide how you will monitor failures and who can restart or repair the player, container, host or network connection.
The official materials reviewed do not specify a guaranteed uptime, minimum host specification, required upload bandwidth for every resolution, or a tested maximum run length. Plan and validate against your own source, network and deployment rather than assuming uninterrupted service.

Plan copyright, archives and shutdowns
Clear every item for live and on-demand use
YouTube’s live production guidance says livestream content must comply with its Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, and that broadcasters should have the necessary clearances for the live stream, rebroadcast and audio/video on demand. Check every playlist item, including background music and embedded footage, and confirm that your rights cover both the live transmission and any archive.
Do not assume a 24/7 broadcast becomes one complete archive
Google’s live production guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and advises recording longer streams for manual upload. That is guidance in the cited document, not a guarantee of current archive behavior for every account or stream. A continuous 24/7 broadcast exceeds that duration, so arrange a separate recording and archive workflow if you need to preserve the complete run.

End the broadcast in the right order
Restreamer’s YouTube guide says to end the stream on YouTube first after an event. Interrupting Restreamer while the event is live may prevent YouTube from saving the stream in its DVR archive. If you are shutting down deliberately, end the broadcast in YouTube before stopping or interrupting Restreamer.
Choose who operates the always-on host
With self-hosting, you maintain the Docker host, source player, network access, security and restart process. A hosted environment can move some host maintenance elsewhere, but you still need to arrange access to the playlist files, monitor the source and publication, and secure the management interface. Compare options on host maintenance and recovery, upstream capacity, storage and file access, monitoring, and privacy exposure. The available documentation does not establish a cost or reliability winner.
Common problems and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| No video source appears in Restreamer | The player is not outputting a continuous stream, its address is wrong, or the chosen input type does not match. | Confirm the player is running, verify its source URL or connection details, and select the matching supported input type in the wizard. |
| Video works but YouTube reports an audio issue | The source has no active audio track, or the player drops audio between clips. | Check the audio output at clip transitions. If the playlist is silent, configure a silent audio channel. |
| YouTube does not receive the stream | The stream key/ID is invalid, the publication settings were not saved, or the host cannot reach the required network destination. | Copy the current key from Live Control Room, recheck the YouTube publication settings in Restreamer, then confirm outgoing network access for your deployment. |
| Stream starts but stops when a clip ends | The playlist player may be stopping rather than advancing or looping, or the transition interrupts its output. | Test the player independently across multiple items and configure continuous looping; verify the source remains active at transitions. |
| YouTube preview appears but the public stream is not live | The encoder feed is reaching YouTube, but the broadcast has not been started in Live Control Room. | Review the preview and broadcast details, then use YouTube’s current Go Live control when ready. |
| Archive is missing or incomplete | The continuous run exceeds the cited under-12-hour archive guidance, or Restreamer was interrupted before the broadcast was ended on YouTube. | End in YouTube first and maintain a separate recording/archive workflow for long broadcasts. |
