You can use OBS to send a turntable’s audio and a chosen visual to YouTube, but a 24/7 broadcast is not just a matter of enabling loop: first make sure you have rights to broadcast every recording, then build and test the audio and video setup, and plan how you will monitor interruptions. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may interrupt them; owning a vinyl record does not by itself establish worldwide broadcast rights.
Before you set up: clear the music and visuals
Buying a record does not automatically give you permission to broadcast its recording on YouTube. YouTube’s livestream terms require the creator to have all necessary rights for worldwide use of the live content, including music rights from artists, labels, publishers and other royalty participants. The rights needed depend on the recordings, compositions, territories, license scope and whether you will archive the stream.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the live picture with a placeholder and warn you; if the material remains, it may interrupt or terminate the stream. Even if you have a license, YouTube says the stream can still be interrupted unless the rights holder adds your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Confirm that permission covers the intended live broadcast, territories and any archive, and ask the rights holder about allowlisting. This is platform guidance, not legal advice. Apply the same rights check to your visual: use artwork you are permitted to show, a properly licensed static image, or a camera view of your turntable. A visual does not make uncleared music safe to stream.

Check YouTube live-stream access
Your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. OBS sends the stream as an encoder. Review YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance before preparing the broadcast.
Connect the turntable and build an OBS scene
Route the audio into your computer
- Connect the turntable’s output to audio capture hardware that your computer can use. Depending on the turntable output and capture input, the signal may need a phono preamp; check the connection requirements for your specific equipment rather than assuming every setup uses the same wiring.
- In OBS, open Settings → Audio and select the correct input device if OBS is not already using it.
- Play a record and watch the OBS Audio Mixer. Confirm that the intended input meter responds before you stream. If the meter stays still, check the selected device, connections, input level and any required preamp.
For a live vinyl broadcast, the audio source is the turntable capture input; do not add a looping local track unless you actually want it mixed into the broadcast.

Add the video source
Create a scene in OBS and add the visual you have chosen: a camera pointed at the turntable, a permitted static image or other cleared artwork. Check the preview to confirm the image is framed as intended. OBS’s Quick Start Guide explains scene and source setup.
Choose live vinyl or a looped playlist
A live turntable feed and a local playlist are different ways to supply the program. Use a live input if the point is to show and hear records being played in real time. Use local media playback if you want a prepared sequence instead of a live deck; rights clearance still applies to every track and visual.

- One local file: add an OBS Media Source and enable its loop option if the file should repeat.
- Several local files: use OBS’s VLC Video source with a playlist and loop-playlist enabled. VLC must be installed. This is an alternative to capturing a live turntable, not a requirement for it.
See OBS’s documentation for Media Sources and VLC Video Source. Looping a source controls playback; it does not keep a computer, network, encoder or YouTube connection from failing.
Configure the YouTube encoder stream and test it
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live and set up an encoder stream in Live Control Room. Copy the stream key into OBS’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it.
- In OBS, use Tools → Auto-Configuration Wizard if you want help choosing initial settings, then verify the output and video settings against your source and available upload connection. YouTube recommends RTMPS. For stereo RTMP/RTMPS audio, YouTube gives 128 Kbps as a baseline; it is not a universal optimum for every capture chain or record.
- Start the encoder and check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream-health indicators before making the broadcast public. Listen for the turntable audio, check the picture, and confirm the feed is stable for several minutes before proceeding.
- Use YouTube’s live encoder settings and stream-health tips to check the current requirements for your stream format. The right settings depend on the signal you are capturing and the connection you can sustain.
Keep the 24/7 stream monitored
OBS can loop media, but neither looping nor a successful test guarantees uninterrupted operation. A continuous broadcast depends on power, the computer, the network, OBS, the audio source and the YouTube connection. Monitor audio, video and stream health, and decide in advance how you will notice and respond to a stopped source or disconnected encoder. YouTube’s guidance covers monitoring quality, but it does not establish a universal restart schedule or promise 24/7 uptime.

Common problems and fixes
- YouTube does not allow you to start: check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- No audio appears in OBS: confirm the input selected in Settings → Audio, inspect the audio connections and any needed preamp, then check whether the Audio Mixer meter moves.
- The local track stops instead of repeating: verify that looping is enabled on the OBS Media Source, or that the VLC Video playlist’s loop-playlist option is enabled; confirm VLC is installed for that source.
- The preview or live broadcast is interrupted for copyright: stop or replace the identified material and resolve the rights issue. If you have permission, contact the rights holder about adding your channel to its allowlist; a license alone may not prevent live interruption.
- The stream drops or becomes unstable: check power, network, OBS and the capture source, then use Live Control Room’s stream-health information to diagnose the feed. Do not assume a looping setting will reconnect a failed encoder.
If YouTube archives the broadcast, Content ID claims on archived live streams are made after the stream finishes. That later claim process is separate from live scanning and possible interruption during the broadcast. See YouTube’s Content ID guidance for live-stream archives.
