You can run a prerecorded playlist as a nonstop YouTube Live stream from a Windows VPS by creating a YouTube broadcast, running an encoder on the VPS that loops your files, and sending the encoder output to YouTube with the broadcast’s stream URL and key. You manage the VPS, encoder and network yourself; YouTube’s documented setup does not specify a particular Windows VPS size or guarantee performance for an India region.
Before you begin
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- A Windows VPS plan that is actually available in the India region you want, if location matters to you. Confirm directly with the provider that its plan permits sustained outbound streaming and that any transfer limits suit your expected use.
- Video files you have the rights to stream, stored on the VPS or otherwise accessible to the encoder.
- An encoder that can read and loop your playlist, plus the YouTube stream URL and stream key.
- Enough sustained upload capacity for the output bitrate. Allow headroom for network variation rather than treating a provider’s advertised maximum as a continuous-stream guarantee.
YouTube’s documentation explains how an encoder connects to a broadcast, but does not prescribe a Windows VPS size, a specific provider, a Windows service configuration, or a particular looping command. Those details depend on your files, encoder and VPS plan.
Choose resolution, codec and bitrate
Use YouTube’s published encoder settings as the starting point, then test the actual playlist and monitor stream health. YouTube recommends RTMP or RTMPS ingestion, H.264, HEVC or AV1 video, constant bitrate (CBR), audio encoded as AAC or MP3, and up to 60 frames per second. Its recommended keyframe interval is two seconds and should not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts data to and through Google’s servers. These are YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrates for the listed resolutions and frame rates—not VPS speed requirements or guarantees of picture quality. YouTube’s table has separate guidance for other codecs and settings; consult it if you choose HEVC or AV1. Your audio bitrate is additional to the video bitrate, so ensure the connection can sustain the full output.

India’s National Informatics Centre says its webcast service requires dedicated bandwidth of 2–4 Mbps per stream and asks users to check outbound RTMP port 1935. That guidance is specific to its government webcast context; it is not a YouTube requirement or a Windows VPS sizing rule. Confirm the protocol and port access your chosen encoder and provider require.
Create the YouTube Live broadcast
- Sign in to YouTube and open Create → Go Live to enter Live Control Room. If live streaming is not yet enabled, complete the channel’s activation and allow up to 24 hours for first-time access.
- Use the Stream tab to create a broadcast, or open Manage to schedule one. YouTube provides the server/stream URL and stream key for the broadcast.
- Keep the stream key private. It identifies the feed sent to YouTube; anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to that stream. Do not publish it, put it in screenshots, or share it in an unsecured support message.

Set up the Windows VPS and encoder
- Connect to the Windows VPS using the access method supplied by its provider. Install or configure an encoder that can read your media files and repeat them as a playlist. Keep the files on storage the encoder can reliably access.
- Configure the encoder’s output to use YouTube’s stream URL and stream key. Prefer RTMPS when it is supported by the encoder and the provided ingestion endpoint.
- Set the output resolution and frame rate to match the material you intend to play. For the common H.264 path, use CBR and a two-second keyframe interval (never more than four seconds), and select the bitrate from YouTube’s table for the chosen resolution and frame rate.
- Configure the playlist to continue from the end back to the beginning. Check the encoder’s documentation for its particular looping controls; YouTube does not prescribe a playlist implementation for Windows VPS software.
- Before relying on the stream, confirm the provider permits sustained outbound traffic at the selected bitrate and that any transfer allowance covers continuous operation. A bitrate of 17 Mbps, for example, means the encoded video alone sends roughly 7.65 GB per hour at that rate before audio and protocol overhead; actual consumption varies with the encoder output and connection.
Start, verify and monitor the stream
- Start the encoder so it begins sending the playlist feed. In Live Control Room, check that YouTube receives the signal and that the preview and stream health look acceptable.
- For a scheduled broadcast, wait for the preview to appear and then click Go live in Live Control Room. Starting the encoder sends the feed; it does not replace the scheduled broadcast’s Go live step.
- Test with representative content before leaving the VPS unattended. YouTube recommends a speed test, a representative preflight test and monitoring stream health. Watch for dropped frames, unstable bitrate, audio/video mismatch and interruptions during playback.
- After going live, check the VPS and encoder periodically. A VPS removes the need to keep your own computer on, but you remain responsible for the Windows host, encoder configuration, storage and provider-side network conditions.
Plan separately for recordings and copyright
YouTube states: “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That statement does not promise that a single uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast will be archived as one complete recording. If you need a saved copy, plan and verify your own recording or archival approach rather than relying on an assumed 24-hour YouTube archive. See YouTube’s encoder streaming guidance.
Use video and audio you are entitled to broadcast. A playlist being prerecorded does not make copyrighted material safe to stream, and YouTube’s platform rules still apply. Review the copyright safety checklist before going live.

Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | What to check |

| YouTube does not receive a signal | Confirm the encoder is running, the stream URL and key belong to the intended broadcast, and the VPS can make the required outbound connection. If you regenerated or changed the key, update the encoder. |

Windows VPS or managed cloud streaming?
A self-managed VPS gives you control over the Windows environment, files and encoder, but you must maintain the looping setup, verify network capacity, monitor the encoder and handle recovery. YouTube’s encoder documentation lists Gyre as a cloud-based service for 24/7 prerecorded streaming, but that listing does not establish its current India availability, price or partner terms. Verify those details with the service before choosing it.
