To set up a PlayStation Portal for Remote Play, connect your PS5 to the internet, enable Remote Play on the console, sign in to the same PlayStation account on both devices, and connect the Portal to Wi-Fi. Then select the Portal tile to connect. If you want the Portal to wake a PS5 in Rest Mode, turn on two additional power settings.
Before you start: check the console and account
- PlayStation Portal Remote Play works with PS5 consoles; it does not support PS4.
- Use the same PlayStation account on the Portal and the PS5.
- Connect the PS5 to the internet and install the latest available PS5 system software.
Enable Remote Play on your PS5
- On the PS5, open Settings > System > Remote Play.
- Select Enable Remote Play.
- Make sure Remote Play is enabled for the PS5 user who will play.
Set up wake-from-Rest-Mode access
You can connect when the PS5 is on, or configure it to wake over the network from Rest Mode. For remote wake, open Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and enable both:

Connect the Portal to the PS5
- Connect the Portal to Wi-Fi and sign in with the same PlayStation account used on the PS5.
- From the Portal’s Remote Play home screen, tap the Portal tile or press the cross button to connect to the PS5 you used previously.
- Before relying on Remote Play away from home, confirm that the Portal connects while you are near the PS5.
Choose network settings for a steadier session
Sony recommends connecting the PS5 to the internet with Ethernet and connecting the Portal over 5 GHz Wi-Fi. A wired PS5 connection is optional: the Portal itself still uses Wi-Fi.
Sony lists 5 Mbps as the minimum for use over broadband Wi-Fi and recommends at least 15 Mbps for a better play experience. These are published connection figures, not guarantees of low latency or uninterrupted play. If the connection is unstable, move the Portal and PS5 closer to the router, reduce obstacles, and disable router band steering if possible.

Using the Portal on public Wi-Fi
Public Wi-Fi can work on supported networks, but connection quality may be outside your control. Sony says some public networks that require extra validation are supported on Portal system software 3.0.1 or later. You will need a phone or tablet to complete those validation steps, and you must first complete the Portal’s initial setup on your home Wi-Fi. Support can vary by network and regional rules.

- Confirm that the PS5 is online and that the Portal and PS5 use the same PlayStation account.
- On the PS5, check Settings > System > Remote Play and verify that Remote Play is enabled for the user you intend to use.
- If the PS5 is in Rest Mode, confirm that both network options under Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode are enabled.
- Try connecting while near the PS5. Sony recommends Ethernet for the console; if it uses Wi-Fi, move both devices closer to the router and reduce obstacles.
- Install the latest Portal and PS5 system software. Sony’s support instructions and network flows can change, so check the live instructions if a menu differs.
