To loop a prerecorded video on YouTube Live, enable Loop on an OBS Media Source, connect OBS to YouTube Studio with the stream URL and key, then check the preview before you click Go live. The repeat happens in OBS—not through a YouTube “loop livestream” switch. The setup works from India; YouTube’s published encoder instructions describe a general workflow, not a separate India-specific encoder setup.
Before you start: check channel eligibility
Sign in to the YouTube channel that will host the broadcast. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a livestreaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Its current help guidance also sets a minimum age of 16 for livestreaming. Check eligibility before configuring OBS: YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility requirements.
Choose how OBS will repeat your video
For one clip, use OBS’s built-in Media Source and enable its Loop property. For a playlist, use VLC Video and enable Loop Playlist; VLC must be installed, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. OBS documents both source types for Windows in its Media Sources guide.

Set up the looping scene in OBS
- Create a scene: In OBS, use the Scenes panel to add a scene for the broadcast.
- Add the video: In Sources, select + → Media Source, create a source, and browse to your local video file.
- Enable repeat: In the Media Source properties, turn on Loop. For a playlist instead, add VLC Video, select its playlist files, and enable Loop Playlist.
- Check the picture and sound: Confirm the video fits the OBS canvas and that its audio registers in the Audio Mixer. Play it locally in OBS before going live so you can catch a wrong file, black picture, or muted source.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio → Create → Go Live, then use the Stream tab to create a stream or select a scheduled or existing one.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room. YouTube describes the key as password-like: do not share it, and reset it if it is exposed.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Select YouTube if it is offered as a service, or choose a custom service and enter YouTube’s stream URL as the server and the key in the stream-key field.
- Prefer RTMPS when available. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP. Its encoder setup instructions explain how to connect with the URL and key.
Choose output settings your laptop and connection can sustain
YouTube automatically detects resolution and frame rate by default and transcodes the incoming stream into formats for viewers. If you set output manually, choose a resolution and frame rate that remain stable on both the laptop and its upload connection. YouTube’s H.264 recommendations include:

These are YouTube Help recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular laptop or Indian internet connection can sustain them. YouTube’s full live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions table gives separate guidance by codec, resolution, and frame rate. As a practical starting point, try 720p30 or 1080p30 only if a test remains stable. Test with similar audio and motion to the planned loop, check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, and reduce bitrate or output quality if the stream stutters. Preview, start, and monitor the broadcast
- Start streaming in OBS and wait for the signal to appear in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Inspect the preview for the correct video, framing, and audible sound. Click Go live in YouTube only after the preview is ready.
- During the stream, keep an eye on YouTube’s stream health and OBS’s audio and output indicators. If the feed becomes unstable, lower the output bitrate or resolution and test again.
- When finished, end the broadcast in YouTube’s live workflow and stop the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume an over-12-hour stream will be archived.
Copyright and monetization: looping does not settle either question
Use material you have the rights to stream
Only include video and audio you have rights to use. YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If a match is detected, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder and may interrupt or terminate it if the issue continues. A license may not prevent an interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams explains the process; its livestream terms require streamers to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation and to comply with applicable law.

Technical ability to loop is not a monetization promise
YouTube’s monetization policy, updated July 15, 2025, calls repetitive or mass-produced material “inauthentic content” and says the policy applies to live streams. A loop can work technically while the channel’s content remains ineligible for monetization if it is repetitive or lacks meaningful original value. That policy question is separate from whether you have permission to use the material. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
Troubleshooting common loop problems
- The video stops instead of repeating: Open the Media Source properties and check Loop. For a playlist, confirm Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC Video source.
- The playlist source is unavailable: Install VLC and ensure its architecture matches OBS. In particular, 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Recheck the server URL and stream key in OBS against the values in Live Control Room. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- The preview appears but the video or sound is wrong: Verify the selected local file, scene, canvas framing, and Audio Mixer levels in OBS before clicking Go live.
- The stream stutters or stream health degrades: Test again at a lower bitrate or output resolution. YouTube’s figures are recommendations; the stable setting depends on the laptop and upload connection.
- The stream is interrupted after starting: Check YouTube’s alert and copyright status. A third-party match can trigger a placeholder, interruption, or termination.
