Do you mean a personal YouTube Music mix or a public livestream that other people can tune into? For private listening, use YouTube Music’s station builder. To broadcast a radio-style programme on your channel, set up a YouTube livestream—and clear the rights to every recording and composition first.
Choose between a personal mix and a public broadcast
A YouTube Music station is a listening feature: it builds an evolving mix for you. A YouTube livestream is a creator broadcast that viewers can watch or hear on your channel. The second option needs an eligible channel, a programme feed and permission to use the music publicly.
- Choose a personal mix if you want an automatically generated Indian classical listening queue for yourself.
- Choose a public livestream if you want to publish a radio-style programme to viewers and can meet YouTube’s live-streaming and music-rights requirements.
Build a personal Indian classical station in YouTube Music
- Open YouTube Music and find Your music tuner on the homepage. YouTube’s guide describes this as the custom-station builder. YouTube Music: Create a personal station
- Select up to 30 favorite artists. Seed the station with performers you want to hear, then adjust the selection if the mix wanders from your interests.
- Choose the amount of variety and whether to favor familiar or new music. Apply any filters shown in your app, then select Done.
- Listen and refine. Recommendations may draw on the YouTube account linked to YouTube Music and can become more finely tuned as you listen.
The official guide documents the station builder, but does not promise that every Indian classical artist, gharana or tradition will be available. If an artist is missing or the results are too broad, try a narrower selection or start with a particular track or album instead.
Try a station from a track or artist
A Gadgets Now walkthrough published March 15, 2023 describes a Start radio option in an item menu for a song, album or artist. Its screen labels and placement may have changed, so use the current controls in your app. That walkthrough also names options such as “Familiar,” “Blend” and “Discover,” and filters including “Deep cuts,” “New releases,” “Chill” and “Focus”; treat these as version-sensitive rather than guaranteed current labels. Prepare a public radio-style livestream
1. Check channel eligibility and enable live streaming
YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have a livestream restriction within the preceding 90 days. First-time livestream enablement can take up to 24 hours. Review YouTube’s current requirements and enable the feature before scheduling a programme. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming
2. Clear the programme’s music rights
Do this before building a playlist or scheduling the stream. YouTube says music is “safe” when it is in the public domain or you have permission from the copyright owner. A “free” label, an attribution line, or a seller’s claim does not by itself establish permission, and a licence bought elsewhere does not automatically inform Content ID. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have necessary worldwide rights for live content, including music rights involving artists, labels, publishers, public-performance licences and other royalty participants. They also require compliance with applicable laws and requirements in the stream territory. Do not assume that permission for personal listening or for including a track in an ordinary video also covers a continuous public livestream. Confirm that permissions cover the recording and composition, live use, intended platforms, territories and duration; check separately whether archiving or monetization is allowed. For Indian classical repertoire, the applicable rights can depend on the specific recording, performance, composition, archive and territories involved. Prasar Bharati’s 2024–25 Annual Report says around 40 percent of total broadcasts on Akashvani primary channels comprise music, including classical and other forms; that figure describes those broadcaster channels, not YouTube listening or Indian classical music alone. The Indian Music Industry/IPRS submission to TRAI describes IPRS as a copyright society representing authors, composers and music publishers in India, but it is a stakeholder submission—not a complete clearance guide for a particular livestream. Creator Music should not be treated as a ready answer for an India-based channel: the current YouTube Help page says it is available to U.S. creators in the YouTube Partner Program, with expansion outside the U.S. pending, and that terms vary by track. 3. Create or schedule the stream
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live to open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup guide for the current workflow. YouTube Help: Set up your encoder for live streaming
- Choose a production method. YouTube offers mobile, webcam, encoder and console options. A simpler method may suit a straightforward programme; an encoder is useful when you need external audio or video sources, overlays or a produced feed.
- If using an encoder, enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key in its stream settings. Treat the key as a credential: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Check the programme’s audio and video, confirm that the preview is accessible, then start the livestream.
- Monitor the broadcast, then stop the encoder and end the stream in YouTube when the programme is finished.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not guarantee an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast: long-running streams need a production setup that can remain active and recover from interruptions. Choose a production approach that fits the programme

For Indian listeners, Akashvani’s regional services describe a role in promoting art and culture with a major emphasis on Indian classical music. That is useful context for the tradition’s broadcast presence, but it does not determine what you may rebroadcast on YouTube.
Troubleshoot common setup problems
- Your channel cannot go live: Check verification, recent livestream restrictions and whether live streaming has been enabled. If this is the first enablement, allow up to 24 hours.
- The encoder does not connect: Recheck the stream URL and key against the current YouTube Live Control Room stream settings. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- No preview appears: Confirm that the encoder is running and sending the intended feed, and recheck its destination settings. Wait for Live Control Room to receive the signal before starting the broadcast.
- A track triggers a copyright claim or interruption: A “free” description or attribution does not prove that the live use is cleared. Recheck permission for the recording and composition, including the relevant territories and live use, and follow YouTube’s rights guidance.
- The personal mix misses an artist or style: The tuner does not guarantee complete artist or tradition coverage. Change the artists or variety settings, or start from a relevant track or album if the option is available.
- The stream stops during a long programme: YouTube’s automatic archive note applies to streams under 12 hours; it is not a promise of continuous 24/7 operation. Check the sending setup and Live Control Room, then restore the feed if needed.
