YouTube’s scheduled event provides a watch page and a start time; it does not create the radio audio or automatically turn a local-time recurrence into a series of broadcasts. For recurring schedules, keep the intended time zone in your scheduling system and convert each date’s local start time into a UTC timestamp before scheduling it.
What you need to schedule
A YouTube radio broadcast has two separate parts: the scheduled event viewers can find, and the encoder feed that carries the audio (and any accompanying video) to YouTube. In YouTube Studio, you create the event and its watch page. Your encoder or playout automation must then send the feed using the event’s server URL and stream key, and the broadcast still needs to be started according to your chosen workflow. YouTube’s live-streaming help describes the creator workflow; the Live Streaming API models the event separately from the stream feed.
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the first broadcast rather than immediately before a scheduled slot.
- An encoder or playout system capable of sending your radio feed to YouTube.
- The event’s server URL and private stream key.
- A schedule that specifies the intended local time zone, especially if it recurs across daylight-saving changes.
Create the scheduled live event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go live.
- In Live Control Room, open Manage and choose Schedule stream.
- Create a new event or reuse settings from a previous stream. Enter the title, description, thumbnail, visibility, and intended start time. A scheduled stream can be shared and promoted in advance, and viewers may be able to set a reminder.
- Save the event and locate its stream settings. Configure your encoder with the event’s YouTube server URL and stream key. If the encoder has a YouTube destination, select it; otherwise enter those values in its stream settings.
- Start the encoder and wait for the feed preview in Live Control Room. Check that the audio is present and clean, and that any video or still-image presentation is correct. Follow the on-screen YouTube go-live flow for the event.
- Confirm that the event is accessible at the intended visibility level, then monitor the feed around the start time and throughout the broadcast.
YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours before an event, starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand, and continuously monitoring stream quality. Those lead times allow room to resolve a missing preview or incorrect feed before listeners arrive. See YouTube’s encoder setup and troubleshooting guidance.
Schedule recurring broadcasts in the intended time zone
For a schedule such as “weekdays at 7:00 p.m. Europe/London,” store the recurrence as a local wall-clock time plus the named time zone—not as a permanent UTC offset. For every event date, calculate the corresponding UTC instant using that zone’s rules, then schedule the event for that instant. A named zone accounts for seasonal clock changes; an offset such as UTC+0 does not. This conversion is scheduling logic you or your scheduling software must supply, not a confirmed YouTube Studio live-stream recurrence feature.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Write down the recurrence in the audience’s intended zone, including the weekdays or calendar rule.
- For each date, resolve that local date and time in the named zone to a UTC timestamp. Check that the local time exists and is unambiguous on clock-change dates; if it is skipped or occurs twice, decide which instant your schedule should use.
- Create a YouTube event with that date’s resulting start time. Do not reuse one fixed UTC time for a local-time schedule if the zone’s offset changes seasonally.
- Test dates on both sides of daylight-saving transitions and verify the displayed event time and encoder start time before relying on the recurrence.
YouTube’s API represents a scheduled start as an ISO 8601 date-time. For example, 2026-10-30T19:00:00Z is a UTC instant, not a universal instruction to start at 7 p.m. local time. The API requires a title, scheduled start time, and privacy status when inserting a broadcast; it rejects a start time in the past and imposes limits on how far ahead broadcasts can be scheduled. Check the current broadcast insert documentation when building an integration.
YouTube’s help page for scheduling an uploaded video includes an explicit time-zone selector, but that is for video publication—not evidence of the same control for scheduled live streams. Do not assume that selecting a local time in the video-publishing workflow controls a live event.

Choose Studio or the Live Streaming API
| Route | Best suited to | What it handles | What you still need to handle |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube Studio | A small number of events or a human-managed schedule | Creating and managing events, reusing settings, checking preview, and using the go-live workflow | Calculating local recurring times, starting the encoder feed, checking the event, and managing failures |
| Live Streaming API | Software that creates many events or generates schedules programmatically | Creating broadcast resources with fields such as title, scheduled start time, and privacy status; broadcasts can be bound to a reusable stream resource | Converting each local occurrence to UTC, operating the encoder, and designing start, stop, monitoring, and recovery behavior |
Google’s API distinguishes a liveBroadcast (the scheduled event) from a liveStream (the feed and its streaming settings). A common recurring-event design creates one live stream, configures the encoder against it, then creates separate broadcast events and binds them to that stream. In that documented scenario, only one event is live at a time. See the liveStreams resource documentation and liveBroadcasts resource documentation.
The API also exposes optional settings, including scheduled end time, auto-start, auto-stop, recording, and DVR, subject to support and state restrictions. Confirm each setting’s current constraints in the API documentation before using it as part of an unattended schedule; creating an event alone does not guarantee that your encoder will start or that the feed will recover from a failure.

Plan separately for continuous or 24/7 radio
A sequence of scheduled events is not the same thing as one uninterrupted radio station. Each event still needs an audio source and an encoder feed, and an event schedule by itself does not automate prerecorded playout. If the goal is continuous listening, decide whether the design uses separate broadcasts or a continuous feed, then verify its event duration, restart, encoder recovery, and archive behavior. The available YouTube guidance establishes that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not establish a dependable single-event recipe for multi-day 24/7 radio or guarantee how such streams will be archived. See YouTube Help.
For a high-production-value broadcast, YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders. That is an optional production path, not a requirement for a basic audio-first radio stream.

Protect the stream key and check the broadcast
- Keep the key private. YouTube describes stream keys as a password and address. Do not publish it, place it in a public document, or expose it in a screenshot. If it is compromised, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder. Details are in YouTube’s stream-key guidance.
- Check the preview before going live. Confirm audio level, continuity, and the intended presentation; make sure the correct event and key are selected.
- Check access as a listener would. Open the watch page in a separate browser session and confirm the event’s public, unlisted, or private visibility is what you intended.
- Monitor through the scheduled window. A schedule is not proof that the encoder connected, the feed remained healthy, or the event ended as planned.
- Review rights and platform rules. Make sure you have the rights needed for the music and other material you broadcast, and review YouTube’s applicable live-streaming policies before launch.
Troubleshoot common schedule failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| The event appears an hour early or late for some dates | The recurrence used a fixed UTC offset, or its conversion ignored a daylight-saving change | Recalculate each occurrence from the named local time zone and date, then convert that instant to UTC. Test dates before and after clock changes. |
| The scheduled watch page exists, but there is no audio | The event was created, but the encoder did not send a feed, or it is using the wrong stream settings | Check that the encoder is running and uses the event’s correct server URL and key; wait for preview and inspect the audio source and meter. |
| Live Control Room shows no preview | The encoder has not connected, the server URL or key is wrong, or the feed has not started | Verify the selected event and its stream settings, restart the encoder if appropriate, and allow time to confirm a preview before the event. |
| The encoder is connected but the event is not live | Sending a feed and making the event live are separate steps in the selected workflow | Check Live Control Room and complete its go-live flow, or verify the configured API start behavior and its current restrictions. |
| The event cannot be scheduled at the requested time | The requested start is in the past or outside the API’s scheduling window | Choose a valid future time within YouTube’s current limits; check the API response and current documentation if using the API. |
| The feed stops or the archive is missing or incomplete | The event or encoder stopped, or the stream duration and archive behavior do not match the assumed design | Check encoder and event state, then review the design for continuous operation. Do not rely on the under-12-hour archive rule as a guarantee for a multi-day broadcast. |
