To connect Streamlabs Desktop to YouTube Live, open the intended stream in YouTube Studio, copy its stream URL and stream key, then connect your YouTube account in Streamlabs or enter those details in its streaming settings. The key is a credential—keep it private. YouTube’s general encoder process applies to Indian devotional channels too; the official guidance does not describe a separate India-only setup.
Check YouTube Live eligibility and prepare your stream
YouTube Help says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days to live stream. Its general getting-started guidance also says users must be at least 16. Check eligibility and live-stream status in the channel’s own YouTube account; do not assume eligibility from location or channel type. YouTube’s live-streaming requirements provide the current guidance.
- Open YouTube Studio.
- Select Create → Go Live, then open the Stream tab in Live Control Room.
- Create a stream if this is your first encoder stream, or open the scheduled or recurring stream you intend to use.
- Review the stream’s title, description, category, audience setting, and privacy. Privacy may default to private or public depending on the stream; set the visibility you actually intend before broadcasting.
A scheduled event can be promoted in advance. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time, leaving room to check the preview and resolve connection or audio issues. YouTube’s live-streaming tips cover these preparations.
Find and protect your YouTube stream key
In the Live Control Room’s stream settings, copy the stream URL and the stream key for the stream you plan to use. They are separate values: the URL goes in the server field, while the key goes in the stream-key field if you configure the encoder manually. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.

- Do not show the key in a screenshot, screen recording, public post, or live broadcast.
- YouTube permits custom keys for reuse. Use the matching key and stream settings for the intended stream.
- If you think the key has been exposed, an owner or manager can reset it in YouTube Studio → Go Live → Stream → Stream key → Reset. Then replace the saved key in Streamlabs. Editors and viewers cannot reset it.
A Streamlabs support page updated June 16, 2022 describes retrieving the key through YouTube Studio’s streaming-software flow, but Studio labels can change. Follow the current labels in YouTube Studio if they differ from that older walkthrough. Streamlabs’ YouTube setup guide.
Connect Streamlabs Desktop to YouTube Live
Streamlabs Desktop’s current setup flow supports connecting a platform during onboarding, and YouTube may also appear among its platform or connection options. The exact screens can vary by version, so use the path shown in your installed app. If Streamlabs asks for encoder details, use the matching YouTube stream URL and key from Live Control Room.

Option 1: Connect your YouTube account
- In Streamlabs Desktop, use onboarding or the platform/connection settings to select YouTube and complete the account connection.
- Choose or confirm the intended stream if the app offers stream selection or management.
- Make sure the matching stream is open in YouTube Live Control Room. For scheduled streams, wait for the encoder preview and use the Live Control Room’s Go Live control if that stream’s settings require it.
Option 2: Enter the URL and key manually
- In Streamlabs Desktop, open the streaming settings and select YouTube if available, or choose the manual/custom server option.
- Paste YouTube’s stream URL into the server field.
- Paste the stream key into the key field, then save the settings.
- Confirm that the intended stream is open in YouTube Live Control Room before starting the encoder.
Use account connection when Streamlabs presents a supported YouTube connection and you want its platform flow. Manual entry is useful when the app requests encoder fields or you need to control them directly. Neither method is universally better; in either case, check that the selected YouTube stream and saved key match. Build the scene and check devotional audio
A scene in Streamlabs Desktop contains sources and graphics. For a simple devotional broadcast, add only what the stream needs: for example, a camera or an authorized devotional image or video, plus a readable title or schedule. Source order controls which items appear in front, so check that text and graphics are not obscured.

- Choose the intended scene and add its video and graphic sources.
- In the Audio Mixer, select the microphone input you plan to use and speak to confirm its meter responds.
- Check that music or other audio is intentional and that you are authorized to stream it. This guide cannot establish whether a particular bhajan, recording, image, or other third-party material is cleared for your channel.
- Open Streamlabs Desktop settings and configure base/output resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and encoder to suit your computer and available upload connection. Streamlabs does not prescribe one universal setting for every setup; its Quick Start guide outlines the relevant settings.
YouTube recommends keeping about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the stream bitrate; include a backup stream in that calculation if one is configured. Shared networks can leave less upload capacity for the streaming computer than the connection’s headline rate suggests. As YouTube puts it: “The total bitrate you’re streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available.” YouTube Help: Streaming tips.
Test privately, then start the broadcast
- For a first run, make a short stream with private or unlisted visibility so you can check the setup without making it public.
- Start the encoder in Streamlabs Desktop and confirm that YouTube Live Control Room receives the feed and displays a preview.
- Check the scene, video framing, microphone level, and any other audio. Open the watch page and check playback on a mobile device as well.
- When ready for the intended audience, confirm the stream’s privacy and scheduled status, then use the appropriate Go Live control in Streamlabs or Live Control Room.
- Monitor the audio and video during the event. When finished, end the stream on YouTube and stop the encoder.
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Its latency and DVR choices are separate from stream-key authentication: lower latency can help when real-time interaction matters but may add buffering, while DVR allows viewers to pause and rewind. Troubleshoot common connection problems
- YouTube does not receive a feed: Check that Streamlabs is using the stream URL and key for the stream currently open in Live Control Room. With manual setup, confirm the URL is in the server field and the key is in the key field.
- The key no longer works: It may have been reset or replaced. Copy the current key from the intended stream’s settings and update Streamlabs.
- The preview appears, but the event is not public: Check the stream’s privacy and schedule in Live Control Room. A preview does not necessarily mean the broadcast has been made public; use the required Go Live control.
- Video or audio stutters: Compare the stream bitrate with available upload bandwidth, allowing YouTube’s recommended headroom. Check for other devices or applications sharing the connection, then adjust bitrate or other output settings to fit the actual connection and computer.
- The microphone is silent: Select the intended input in the Audio Mixer and speak while watching its meter. If the meter does not respond, check the selected device and its connection before going live.
- A key was exposed: Have a YouTube channel owner or manager reset it in Live Control Room, then update Streamlabs with the replacement. Do not continue using a credential you believe is compromised.
