Set up NFL alerts and an official source to check
-
Open the NFL injury report and find the relevant team, player, or matchup. Its Practice Status and Game Status are separate information; neither is the final game-day inactive list.
-
Open the NFL App and go to More → Settings → Alert Preferences. NFL Support documents this location and says favorite teams appear below general alert controls. Select your team and enable relevant preferences if your version of the app presents them.
-
Allow notifications for the NFL App in your phone’s system settings. The app is available for iOS and Android phones and tablets, according to NFL App support. NFL terms say mobile alerts may include push notifications and text messages; availability varies by carrier and device, and messages may be delayed or undelivered. See NFL.com’s terms and conditions.

If you use NFL Fantasy, configure its league notifications separately. NFL Support describes league-level email and push preferences in its Fantasy notification instructions; those settings are not established as a comprehensive feed for every NFL injury or inactive announcement.
Know when the reports change
The NFL’s 2026–27 important-dates calendar sets a 4:00 p.m. New York time deadline for practice reports and Game Status Reports, or as soon as possible after practice concludes. The specific filing days vary according to when a game is scheduled; non-Sunday games follow different weekday schedules. Check the calendar for the matchup rather than assuming every team reports on the same day.
Rank #2
Game Status Reports are generally due the day before a game, subject to those schedule variations. A player may have appeared on a practice report but not appear on the Game Status Report if the player is certain to play.

The NFL’s injury-report policy explainer defines the game-status labels as follows:
- Questionable: It is uncertain whether the player will play.
- Doubtful: It is unlikely the player will participate.
- Out: The player will not play.
The NFL eliminated the former Probable designation. The league’s explanation says approximately 95 percent of players previously marked Probable played; that is a historical rationale for removing the label, not a current probability for players listed Questionable, Doubtful, or Out.
An injury designation is not the same as being confirmed inactive. NFL Support states: “Players are designated ‘Inactive’ by their NFL teams about 90 minutes before the game is scheduled to start if they are unable to play.” The timing is approximate, so an earlier injury report or alert can become stale. Recheck the official report near kickoff for the latest information. For a published example of a game-day inactive roundup, see the NFL’s Week 2, 2026 inactives page.

Choose the right way to follow updates
| Method | Best for | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| NFL.com injury report | Checking the league’s published player practice and game statuses. | Requires you to revisit the page; a status before kickoff is not the final inactive confirmation. |
| NFL App alert preferences | Push or other mobile alerts for a selected favorite team, if the current app version offers the relevant control. | NFL Support documents where preferences are located, but its instructions focus on disabling alerts and do not establish a universal injury-alert toggle. |
| NFL Fantasy league alerts | Notifications configured for your fantasy league. | League-level settings are not confirmed as a complete NFL-wide injury and inactive feed. |
| Third-party or fantasy alerts | A prompt to look for a change. | Verify consequential updates against the NFL report; an alert is not necessarily the final record. |
