The key limitation is that YouTube provides the live-stream connection, not a built-in playlist player: you must supply software or a service that plays and loops the videos. A computer-based setup needs a plan for interruptions and monitoring; for a cloud-run option, StreamNeo can play uploaded videos continuously to YouTube.
Check channel eligibility and video rights first
- Your channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16 years old. If this is your first time enabling live streaming, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and enablement guidance.
- Confirm that you have the rights to every video and audio track in the playlist. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. If you have a license, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; having a license alone may not prevent an automated interruption. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.
These checks matter for game footage, soundtrack music, trailers, and other creators’ clips as much as for any other prerecorded material. Permission to use a game or video does not automatically establish rights to the music or other content embedded in it.
Choose how the playlist will play
YouTube’s documented encoder workflow covers connecting an encoder, but does not explain how to configure a current OBS playlist source, make it repeat indefinitely, or recover it after a decoder, computer, or network interruption. YouTube does not host or loop your source playlist for you. Do not assume that creating a YouTube stream by itself makes the broadcast unattended.
| Approach | What it means | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Software encoder on a computer | YouTube supports streaming software on a computer connected to its Live server URL and stream key. | In the current software documentation, confirm playlist support, repeat behavior, end-of-file behavior, and how playback responds to a restart or lost connection. The YouTube instructions do not establish these details for OBS or another particular encoder. |
| Standalone hardware encoder | YouTube lists standalone hardware encoders as an option and recommends professional-grade encoders for higher-production events. | Confirm whether the device can play local media and loop a playlist on its own, plus its recovery and remote-monitoring behavior. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not say this hardware is necessary for prerecorded video. |
YouTube says expensive equipment is not required to get started, but it does not specify minimum computer or encoder hardware for this use. Do not treat any particular CPU, GPU, memory, storage, or network specification as an official requirement for this setup.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Create a YouTube Live stream and connect an encoder
- Open YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go Live. If you are setting up an event for later, use the Manage tab to schedule it. Interface labels and controls can change, so follow the current prompts in Studio.
- Choose the stream’s visibility and review the event and stream settings before broadcasting. For a scheduled event, YouTube’s encoder instructions say to wait for the preview and then use the Studio go-live controls as directed.
- In the encoder, enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key shown for that stream. Treat the stream key as a credential: do not show it in screenshots or share it publicly. The encoder uses it to connect to your YouTube broadcast.
- Configure the encoder to use the playlist source you have verified in its current documentation. Check that playback begins, advances through the intended videos, and repeats as intended. YouTube’s official setup guidance does not establish the specific OBS source, loop control, or playlist-end setting for this step.
- Start the encoder and check the preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room. Use the current Studio controls to begin the event when prompted; whether an event starts automatically depends on the settings and current interface flow.
For the documented connection process and current Studio workflow, see YouTube’s guide to live streaming with an encoder. Google also documents a 24/7 broadcast model in its Live Streaming API broadcast documentation: one live stream can continue feeding a 24/7 broadcast while another broadcast is created for a segment of that feed. That API model is not an OBS playlist tutorial or a promise of uninterrupted uptime.
Test playback and plan for interruptions
- Before leaving the stream unattended, confirm the Live Control Room preview shows the expected video and audio. Check the stream from the channel or watch page and on mobile, as YouTube recommends.
- Monitor audio and video quality. If you have configured a backup encoder or failover, test it rather than assuming it will take over correctly.
- Decide who will respond to a stopped playlist, a computer or network outage, an unexpected end of stream, or a YouTube rights notice. The reviewed YouTube documentation does not certify an unattended computer-and-encoder configuration or describe automatic recovery for it.
- Keep an eye on copyright notices and use only content you are authorized to stream. YouTube’s live-stream scanning may interrupt a stream even when you believe you have permission; work with the rights owner on Content ID allowlisting where applicable.
Know what happens to the replay
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that a continuous stream lasting more than 12 hours will produce a complete replay. If you need a replay, plan around the under-12-hour archive guidance, consider rotating streams or separately recording the source, and check YouTube’s current behavior before relying on an archive for a long-running broadcast.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is an always-on YouTube stream from uploaded videos without leaving an encoder computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud service that plays uploaded recordings or playlists to YouTube. The setup is:
- Upload a recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud.
Nothing has to stay on at home. Every quality up to 4K 60fps is streamed as uploaded at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a camera feed. See StreamNeo for details, or start your free day.
