To keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running without leaving a computer or encoder on, enable live streaming for your channel, create or schedule the YouTube broadcast, then configure a hosted service with your video and YouTube connection. Verify the incoming stream in both the service and YouTube Studio before relying on it. The exact controls, duration limits, and recovery behavior depend on the service you choose.
What you are setting up
A YouTube live setup has two related parts: the broadcast viewers watch and the stream that carries video into YouTube. Google explains that a broadcast is a distinct YouTube video representing an event, while a stream defines how audio and video are transmitted to YouTube (YouTube Live Streaming API: Understanding Broadcasts and Streams, updated September 14, 2026).
A hosted prerecorded workflow stores or receives your video, sends it to YouTube, and may create or connect the broadcast for you. It is not the same as going live from a camera. You do not need OBS for this hosted workflow, though a service may use different controls or require you to provide YouTube stream credentials.
Check that your channel can go live
- Open YouTube Studio and confirm that live streaming is enabled for the channel. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do this before your planned launch (Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder).
- Check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility guidance sets the minimum age for live streaming at 16 (Get started with live streaming).
- If you cannot enable live streaming or see a restriction, resolve that with YouTube before scheduling a continuous broadcast.
Create or schedule the YouTube broadcast
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live to open the Live Control Room.
- Create a stream or use the Manage tab to schedule a broadcast. Some hosted services create or manage the broadcast through their own YouTube integration; if so, follow that service’s current flow and then check that the event appears in Studio.
- Set the title and visibility deliberately. YouTube says visibility defaults differ by age: streamers aged 13–17 default to private, while those 18 or older default to public; streamers can change the setting.
- If you are scheduling ahead, check the start time and time zone, then confirm the event details before you publish or schedule it. Scheduled events can be promoted and viewers may receive reminders.
For an encoder-based setup, YouTube’s instructions have the operator wait for a preview and click Go live. A hosted service may handle the start through its own integration, so verify the actual event state rather than assuming that scheduling alone means viewers can see it.

Connect the hosted service to YouTube
- In the service, choose its YouTube connection or channel-authorization option if available, and authorize the intended channel.
- If it asks for ingest details instead, copy the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into the service’s stream or encoder settings. YouTube’s encoder instructions use these details to connect an encoder.
- Treat the stream key as a password. Do not share it or publish it; if it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the service.
- Double-check which channel is connected. A valid stream key for the wrong channel can send the broadcast somewhere other than the intended channel.
Select the video and schedule the continuous feed
Choose the video or playlist in the hosted service and confirm its supported file formats, storage source, duration controls, and rights requirements. Do not assume that every service accepts the same files, can run indefinitely, or automatically renews a scheduled stream.
Example: OneStream Live
OneStream Live documents a workflow that can select videos from a device, its own storage, or cloud storage; connect a YouTube channel; enter stream details; choose an immediate or later start; set a duration in days; and schedule the broadcast. Those are OneStream-specific instructions, not general YouTube requirements. Its help page says its 24/7 feature is YouTube-only, requires its Enterprise plan, and has a maximum scheduled duration of 30 days (How to Start 24/7 Live Streaming?, updated September 3, 2026).

Before you schedule
- Confirm the right source video or playlist and the order in which items will play.
- Check the service’s maximum scheduled duration and what happens when that duration ends; these terms are provider-specific.
- Review the broadcast title, visibility, start time, channel, and any service-specific settings.
- Make sure every video and audio item is suitable for continuous retransmission and that you have the necessary rights.
Verify the stream and plan for interruptions
- Confirm that the hosted service reports the correct channel and broadcast as active or scheduled, as applicable.
- Open YouTube Studio and check that the expected event appears and that an incoming preview or live state is visible.
- Check the public watch page using the intended visibility setting. A private stream will not be publicly viewable.
- Decide how you will check for interruptions, the end of the scheduled duration, or content-rights claims. The sources cited here do not establish a provider’s uptime, monitoring guarantee, restart behavior, or price.
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a longer continuous stream will be archived automatically or indefinitely (YouTube encoder guidance).
Protect the channel and the content
YouTube requires live streams to comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service and may restrict live-streaming access (Get started with live streaming). Check the rights for each video, music track, and other asset before looping it. Owning a file or finding it publicly available does not by itself establish permission to retransmit it continuously. No setup method guarantees monetization eligibility, watch-hour credit, or an archive for a continuous stream.

Choose a hosted service carefully
YouTube’s encoder directory includes software and cloud tools, but the available sources do not establish a fair, complete comparison of vendors’ features, reliability, or prices. Before choosing one, compare the service’s documented terms on these points:
- Whether it supports prerecorded video and playlists, rather than only a live camera or encoder input.
- Maximum continuous duration, renewal or restart behavior, and what happens at the end of a scheduled run.
- Accepted file formats, source storage, upload limits, and storage or egress charges.
- Whether it authorizes a YouTube channel or requires a server URL and stream key.
- How it handles interruptions, what status information it provides, and what support is included.
- Total plan cost for the run length and number of slots you need.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
Live streaming is not enabled
Enable it in YouTube Studio and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. Check verification and recent live-stream restrictions if activation remains unavailable.
The service cannot connect or YouTube shows no incoming video
Check that the correct channel is authorized, or re-enter the current server URL and stream key if using manual ingest. Confirm the service is actually sending the selected source and that Studio shows the intended event.
The broadcast is private or missing from the public channel
Review visibility in the event settings. YouTube’s age-based defaults can make a stream private for users aged 13–17, and visibility can be changed by the streamer.
The stream stops before the expected end
Compare the run time with the service’s scheduled-duration limit and check the service status and YouTube Studio. Ask the provider what its restart or recovery behavior is; do not infer it from another provider’s documentation.
