In Terraria, a basic teleporter route needs two Teleporters, wire linking them, and a trigger such as a switch or pressure plate. Activate the trigger while standing in the pad’s activation area to travel to the other pad. The instructions below cover Terraria; if you meant a different game, these mechanics will not apply.
What you need for a basic teleporter route
- Two Teleporters
- Wire to connect them
- A trigger, such as a switch or pressure plate
- A solid-block or platform surface for each pad
In modern Desktop, Console, and Mobile versions, the Mechanic sells Teleporters. Acquisition details differ in legacy versions, so check the instructions for your platform and game version. See the Terraria Teleporter item guide.

How to build and activate the route
- Place the first Teleporter on solid blocks or platforms where you want the route to begin.
- Place the second Teleporter on a solid surface at the destination.
- Run wire between the two pads. The route is controlled by its wire connections, so plan the circuit before adding branches or extra pads.
- Place a trigger on the connected circuit. Use a switch for manual control, or position a pressure plate so a player steps on it.
- Stand on the pad within its activation area and activate the trigger. Eligible entities touching the activation area are moved to the connected destination.
For placement and wiring details, consult the Teleporter guide and the teleporter network guide.
Adding multiple destinations
Colored wires let a pad take part in more than one route, but the circuit must make the intended destination clear. The network guide describes one destination at each end for a wire color; in modern versions, using all four colors can provide up to four destinations from each end, with two yellow destinations counted across the pair. Older Console and 3DS versions have fewer wire colors and therefore fewer routing options.

Do not simply connect extra pads to one wire and expect the game to choose the destination you want. Use deliberate routing and distinct triggers, and keep the layout legible. A linear route or clearly planned branches are easier to expand and troubleshoot than a tangle of crossings. The network guide notes that a network of roughly 20–30 locations can become difficult to build, modify, and use; that is a practical warning, not a hard game limit.
Travel behavior and safety
Teleporter travel works in both directions. It can move players, NPCs, and most enemies touching the activation area, so think about who may be standing near either pad. A route that brings an enemy into a base can create an avoidable hazard.

Modern versions listed by the wiki have no wire-length or teleport-distance limit. Legacy versions have restrictions, and wire behavior depends on platform generation, so do not assume a route built for one version will work unchanged in another. Long routes still require the wire physically connecting the pads, which can make them costly and time-consuming to build. See Guide: Travel and Guide: Practical tips.

When a Pylon may be easier
For local travel in modern versions, Pylons can be an alternative to a wired teleporter network. The travel guidance describes map access and a small local network around each Pylon, avoiding long wire runs. Teleporters suit routes whose destinations need custom placement or broader network design; Pylons can reduce construction effort for nearby destinations. Availability and mechanics vary by version.
