To show alerts on a YouTube livestream, first choose what viewers should be able to do: send a YouTube Super Chat or Super Sticker, tip through a separate service such as Streamlabs or StreamElements, or donate to a charity through YouTube Giving. These are different workflows. Enable eligible Supers in YouTube Studio; configure third-party alerts in that provider’s dashboard and add its overlay to your streaming software; use a YouTube Giving fundraiser for charitable donations.

For creator support, use Supers if your channel and stream are eligible. For tips paid through an external provider, set up that provider’s tipping page and overlay. For a nonprofit fundraiser, use YouTube Giving rather than labeling a creator-support payment a charitable donation.
How do I turn on Super Chat and Super Stickers?
Check eligibility first
YouTube’s monetization page, accessed October 3, 2026, lists an early-access YouTube Partner Program tier that includes Supers: 500 subscribers, 3 public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public long-form watch hours in the last 365 days or 3 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. These are tier thresholds, not a guarantee that Supers will be available: YouTube also requires feature-specific eligibility, a supported location, acceptance of applicable terms, and policy compliance. Check the current YouTube Partner Program overview and Supers eligibility requirements before relying on the thresholds.
Supers are not available for age-restricted, unlisted, private, or made-for-kids videos, or videos attached to a YouTube Giving fundraiser. Live chat or comments must be enabled. Availability can vary by location and feature eligibility; consult YouTube’s current requirements for your channel.

Enable Supers in the YouTube Studio mobile app
- Open the YouTube Studio app and tap Earn at the bottom.
- Open the Supers card. If it is not shown but YouTube offers a Supers section, tap Get started.
- Tap Turn on and complete the on-screen setup.
- Accept the Commerce Product Module when prompted. YouTube says first-time users may need to sign it.
On desktop, open YouTube Studio and go to Earn > Supers to review Supers activity and transactions. YouTube says Supers become available automatically on eligible live streams and Premieres when live chat is on. Moderate Super messages as part of your live chat. Tell viewers they can purchase a highlighted chat message or sticker. Do not promise that every viewer can use Supers: availability depends on the viewer’s location and other conditions.

What Supers are—and are not
YouTube Help states: “You should be aware that Super Chat and Super Stickers aren’t crowdfunding or donation tools.” They are paid fan-funding features, not charitable donations. YouTube says creators receive 70% of confirmed Supers revenue after local sales tax and iOS App Store fees are deducted; that is a share calculation, not a guaranteed payout on every transaction. How do I show donation alerts on my stream screen?
Set up a Streamlabs Alert Box
- Connect the YouTube account you use for streaming in Streamlabs, then choose the YouTube event types you want alerts for and customize their appearance in the Alert Box settings. Streamlabs documents YouTube-specific subscriber, member, and Super Chat settings.
- Add the Alert Box in Streamlabs Desktop, use the documented integration in OBS, or copy the widget link into your streaming software as a browser source.
- Place and size the browser source in the scene you will use live. Confirm the alert is visible and its sound is appropriate for your mix.
- Use Streamlabs’ test function before going live. Keep private widget URLs private; anyone with access to a widget link may be able to affect or misuse its display.

Set up StreamElements alerts and tips
- Create or open an overlay in StreamElements and add an AlertBox widget.
- Copy the overlay URL and add it to your broadcast software as a browser source. Check its position and visibility in the scene where you will stream.
- If you want viewers to tip through StreamElements, configure the tipping page separately under Revenue > Tipping Settings.

Can I use Streamlabs or StreamElements with YouTube Live?
Yes. Their documented alert workflows let you configure event alerts and display them in broadcast software, commonly through a browser source. That overlay is separate from YouTube’s own chat interface: viewers may see a Super Chat in chat while your configured overlay displays an alert on the stream image. For external tips, the provider’s tipping page is a separate payment workflow. Follow the provider’s current instructions for linking the correct YouTube account, selecting event types, and adding the overlay.

How do I set up charitable donations on YouTube Live?
- Add your scheduled livestream to a YouTube Giving fundraiser.
- When the fundraiser is active, viewers can use the donate icon in live chat. If live chat is not enabled, YouTube says a donate button can appear instead.
- Explain to viewers that contributions go to the nonprofit, not to the channel as creator tips.
YouTube says, “100% of your contribution goes to the nonprofit and YouTube will pay transaction fees.” That statement applies to YouTube Giving, not third-party tipping services. YouTube also turns off Supers on streams with live chat donations to avoid confusion. YouTube Giving Help
Why can’t I see the Supers option in YouTube Studio?
- Check channel eligibility: Review the current YouTube Partner Program and Supers requirements, supported location, and any required terms in YouTube Studio.
- Check the stream’s settings: Supers are unavailable for private, unlisted, age-restricted, or made-for-kids videos and YouTube Giving fundraiser videos. Live chat or comments must be on.
- Check the correct Studio area: In the mobile app, look under Earn for a Supers card or a Get started option. On desktop, open Earn > Supers.

Why are my on-screen alerts not appearing?
- The test alert works, but a live event does not: Confirm the alert service is connected to the YouTube account you are using, the relevant event type is enabled, and the widget or browser source is present in the scene that is actually live.
- The overlay is missing in the broadcast: Check that the source is visible, correctly positioned, and added to the active scene. Reopen the provider’s test function after changing its settings.
- The alert appears but has no sound—or the sound is wrong: Review the alert’s sound settings and the browser-source audio routing in your broadcast software, then test again before going live.
- A viewer calls a Super Chat a donation: Clarify that it is a paid fan-funding purchase; YouTube Giving is the charitable-fundraiser option.
Provider dashboards and streaming-software controls can change, so use the current instructions for the service and software you have connected.
