First check Settings > About Phone or About Device and note both. OPPO says China-version devices do not come with Google Play Store or other Google apps preinstalled; whether your model offers an official way to add them must be checked for that exact device.
Check your model and whether it supports Google services
- Open Settings > About Phone or About Device. Record the model and ColorOS version.
- In Settings, look for a Google or Google Mobile Services option. You can also check OPPO App Market for an official Google component offered for your model.
- If neither provides a supported option, contact OPPO support with your exact model and software version. Do not assume a guide for a global OPPO phone applies to a China-market ROM.
OPPO’s guidance for the Reno 5G China Version says China-market devices do not ship with Google apps preinstalled. That does not establish that every China-version model has the same enable switch or setup path. OPPO’s China-version guidance is a starting point, not a model-specific guarantee.
Add your Google account if Google components are available
After Google components are present and supported on the phone, open Settings and find the account section. Depending on ColorOS, it may be called Accounts and Sync, Users & Accounts, Manage accounts, or Passwords & accounts. Choose the option to add an account, select Google, and follow the sign-in and verification prompts. OPPO lists services such as Play Store, Gmail, Drive, Photos, Calendar, and Contacts as examples of what you can use with a Google account. OPPO’s account setup guidance
Keep the Play Store and Google Play services distinct. The Play Store is the app storefront; Google Play services connects apps to Google features such as Sign-In and Maps. Google says Play services is included with Android, but a Play Store icon by itself does not prove that all Google-dependent functions are available or working. Allow notifications and background activity
Set this up separately for each messaging, email, or calendar app whose alerts you need. Open the app’s information or settings page and enable notifications, including the categories you want. Menu names and locations vary by model and ColorOS build, so use the app’s notification controls rather than relying on a single universal path.
Then allow the app to start automatically or run in the background, where those controls are available. OPPO documents this route for ColorOS 12 and later: Settings > Apps > Auto launch. On some older software, the equivalent is under Phone Manager > Privacy Permissions > Startup Manager or Auto-launch apps. - Enable notifications and relevant alert categories for the app.
- Permit auto-launch or background operation if the phone provides that control.
- Send a test message or create a test reminder, lock the screen, and wait to see whether it arrives.
If the alert is late or missing, recheck those permissions, the app’s network access, and any battery restrictions shown in its settings. Background management can still affect delivery; the exact behavior depends on the handset and software.
Fix Play Store downloads that fail
- Check the connection and restart. Confirm that the phone can access the internet, then restart it.
- Allow network access. OPPO’s guide for ColorOS 7 and later gives this route: Settings > SIM card & mobile data or Mobile network > Data usage > Network permissions or Network access. Enable Wi-Fi and mobile data access for Google Play Store and Google Services Framework as needed. Labels can vary by version.
- Clear the Play Store cache. On ColorOS 12 and later, go to Settings > Apps > App management > Google Play Store > Storage usage > Clear cache, then restart. OPPO’s Play Store troubleshooting guidance
When the steps do not match your phone
Do not sideload an arbitrary bundle of Google APKs or flash a global ROM based on a guide for another OPPO model. The supported Google installation method and notification controls have not been established here for every China-version phone. Give OPPO support the model and ColorOS version you recorded, and ask whether that specific device officially supports Google services and which menu path applies.
