You can try running a 24/7 fireplace stream from a low-end PC with OBS, but no single setting guarantees that a particular computer, internet connection or power supply will stay reliable around the clock. Start with a simple 720p, 30 fps scene, use YouTube’s stream settings as a reference, and test while watching OBS’s performance and YouTube’s stream health before relying on it.
Check your PC and connection before choosing settings
“Low-end PC” is not a precise hardware category for streaming. OBS says its requirements do not guarantee that a compatible system can stream or record; the load depends on the encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene. Its Auto-Configuration Wizard is a better starting point than choosing settings from a CPU label alone. See the OBS system requirements.
- Note your operating system, CPU, RAM and graphics hardware. In OBS, check whether a hardware H.264 encoder is available.
- Open Tools > Auto-Configuration Wizard in OBS, choose the streaming-use option, and follow the prompts. Treat its results as a starting configuration, not a guarantee.
- Check your stable upload speed and whether you can connect the PC to your router by Ethernet. If you are considering a long-running broadcast, check how the computer behaves during a controlled test rather than assuming it can operate continuously.
- Set up a private, unlisted or otherwise controlled test stream before publishing. Monitor OBS and YouTube stream health, and change one setting at a time so you can identify what helps.
Use the wizard’s hardware-specific recommendation as a baseline. A hardware encoder can reduce CPU encoding work when available, but the suitable choice depends on the machine; OBS notes that dedicated encoders can trade off quality at a given bitrate compared with x264 in many cases. Its x264 guidance describes suggested figures as starting points, not universal presets.
Build a lightweight fireplace scene
Keep the scene as simple as possible: one fireplace video source and only the audio you need. Avoid unnecessary browser overlays, extra full-canvas media sources and expensive filters. OBS notes that sources can consume resources even when hidden, and browser sources and filters can add load. Its encoding performance guidance explains why simpler scenes are easier to run.

Starting OBS settings for a static fireplace video
For an initial test, use 1280 × 720 output at 30 fps, H.264, CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval. If your fireplace video includes audio, use stereo AAC. These are testable starting values, not a promise that a weak PC or a particular upload connection can sustain them. YouTube’s encoder guide lists H.264, CBR, RTMP/RTMPS and a recommended 2-second keyframe interval; it recommends 8 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. That bitrate is a platform recommendation, not a target tailored to a low-end computer or an Indian internet connection. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate table.
| Setting | Initial choice | How to adjust |
|---|---|---|
| Output resolution | 1280 × 720 | Lower it if OBS reports encoding overload or the output stutters. Lower output resolution reduces encoder load; image detail also falls. |
| Frame rate | 30 fps | Keep 30 fps if stable. Avoid jumping to 60 fps on a constrained PC; fewer frames reduce the work per second. |
| Video codec | H.264 | Use the encoder the wizard recommends or a suitable available hardware H.264 encoder. Do not assume all hardware encoders behave the same. |
| Rate control | CBR | This is the constant-bitrate mode listed in YouTube’s encoder guidance. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends a 2-second interval. |
| Audio | Stereo AAC, if audio is used | Use only audio you have rights to stream; test it with the video. |
| Bitrate | Set a test value based on stable upload | YouTube recommends 8 Mbps for 720p30 H.264, while OBS advises starting around 75% of total upload speed. The connection’s reliable capacity, not a platform target alone, should guide the test. |
The 8 Mbps YouTube recommendation and OBS’s upload-based guidance answer different questions: one is a platform recommendation for a format, the other a starting point for avoiding a bitrate that exceeds your connection. OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide suggests beginning at 75% of total upload speed and lowering bitrate if the connection cannot maintain it. OBS’s x264 article also gives a 3,000–5,000 kbps starting range for 720p30 under its stated x264 veryfast, low-to-medium-motion assumptions. Do not treat that range as equivalent to YouTube’s recommendation or as a guaranteed setting for your PC.

Use YouTube’s default automatic resolution detection unless you have a reason to configure a custom stream resolution. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection to Google’s servers.
Configure YouTube and test before going public
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and retrieve its stream key using YouTube’s live-control workflow. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or show it in a recording.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and connect using the stream key if prompted. YouTube’s current encoder guide supports RTMP/RTMPS; prefer the secure RTMPS option when it is offered.
- Set the video and output values in OBS, then start a controlled test. Check both OBS for rendering or encoding overload and YouTube for stream health before sending viewers to the stream.
- Keep the same settings through a sufficiently long test to expose intermittent problems. A short successful test is useful, but does not establish that the setup will remain stable for days.
Tune based on what fails
If OBS shows encoding overload or the picture stutters
Reduce output resolution or frame rate before adding or changing scene elements. Try 30 fps if you were attempting 60 fps. Lower the base canvas resolution only if the PC is severely constrained, because that can require repositioning and resizing scene elements. OBS explains these load reductions in its encoding performance troubleshooting guide.

If YouTube reports a weak connection or OBS drops frames
Lower the bitrate and test again; a lower bitrate can reduce picture quality, so judge the actual fireplace image at the intended viewing size. Prefer Ethernet where practical. OBS warns that Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming and identifies ISP congestion and route changes as possible causes. If problems persist, check the router or modem and network drivers, then contact your ISP if evidence points beyond the PC. A cable can help avoid Wi-Fi instability, but it cannot create upload capacity your connection does not have.
If performance worsens over time
Remove nonessential sources and filters, and check whether the computer remains responsive during the broadcast. The available evidence does not establish a universal low-end PC specification, safe operating temperature or multi-day reliability threshold. A real test on your own hardware and in your own conditions is necessary.

Plan for power, internet and the replay separately
A live broadcast staying connected and YouTube saving a complete replay are different outcomes. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends making a local recording as a backup. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
If a complete recording matters, test OBS local recording and check that you have enough storage before depending on it. Recording adds disk use and work for the PC; the required space depends on your chosen recording settings and duration. Do not assume that splitting a 24-hour broadcast guarantees a complete archive or uninterrupted playback—verify current behavior for your channel.

A home PC also depends on household power and internet. No OBS setting can guarantee either. The right contingency depends on your measured connection, local power conditions and how much interruption you can accept; this guide cannot prescribe a specific UPS runtime or energy cost for an unknown household.
Use original or cleared material, and do not assume monetization
Use original fireplace footage where possible, and make sure any music or other audio is cleared for your intended use. Copyright permission and YouTube monetization eligibility are separate questions. YouTube’s monetization policy, updated July 15, 2025, says repetitive or mass-produced material falls under its “inauthentic content” policy and is ineligible for monetization under the existing policy. An endlessly repeated stock fireplace clip or music loop is therefore not assured to qualify. YouTube assesses eligibility under its policies; no setup guide can decide an individual channel’s outcome. Read the YouTube channel monetization policies.
