Climbey added eye-openness support via OSC in its October 2, 2026 Steam update, but the announcement does not say how to configure it. It gives no Climbey-specific OSC address, payload format, port, headset compatibility list, or in-game effect. If you use Steam Link, you can check its general OSC sharing settings and test whether messages are arriving—but those checks do not establish Climbey’s required message format.
What Climbey’s update confirms—and what it leaves open
The Climbey Steam update dated October 2, 2026 says: “Add support for Eye-Openness via OSC.” That confirms the feature was added, but the one-line note does not include a setup procedure.
In particular, it does not identify a Climbey setting to enable, an OSC address or payload Climbey expects, a port to use, supported headsets or runtimes, or what should change in the game when data arrives. Do not assume that every eye-tracking headset works or that receiving openness data necessarily makes visible blinks animate.
Check current Climbey release notes or support information for product-specific setup details. Until Climbey documents its OSC contract, general OSC checks can help locate a connection problem, but cannot confirm that the message format is compatible.

If you use Steam Link, check its OSC sharing path
WorldViz documents a Steam Link setup for its External Data Recorder. In that workflow, the user opens SteamVR’s Steam Link settings and enables both “Enable OSC” and “Share eye tracking data to other apps on this PC.” These are instructions from WorldViz’s recorder guide, not confirmed Climbey requirements; another runtime or connection method may have different controls.
- Open the Steam Link settings in SteamVR. Follow the controls available in your SteamVR setup; do not assume another runtime has the same menu.
- Check that OSC is enabled and eye-tracking data is shared. The two setting labels above are the ones cited by WorldViz for its Steam Link workflow.
- Compare the sender and listener ports. The OSC output port and the receiving application’s listening port must match for this workflow. The Climbey announcement does not state which port Climbey expects, so do not treat a port used by another application as a Climbey setting.
Find out whether OSC messages are arriving
Test the source independently of Climbey if you have an appropriate OSC diagnostic tool. WorldViz’s guide uses its Steamlink_Gaze.py script to inspect incoming OSC messages and openness values. The script belongs to the WorldViz External Data Recorder setup; it is not identified as a Climbey tool.

If you use a different OSC monitor, configure it to listen on the port used by your source. Seeing messages confirms that data is reaching that listener, but it does not prove that Climbey accepts the same address or payload.
Check for a listener already using the port
WorldViz notes that only one program can listen on a given UDP port at a time. If a diagnostic tool reports that it cannot bind or listen, close other OSC-consuming applications and try again. The guide gives VRChat and VRCFaceTracking as examples of possible conflicts in its setup; that does not mean Climbey uses either application or either application’s port.

Separate a connection problem from a format mismatch
If your diagnostic sees no messages, check that the source is enabled, data sharing is on where applicable, the sender and listener use the same port, and another program is not occupying that port.
If messages arrive at the diagnostic but Climbey shows no effect, the unresolved question may be whether Climbey recognizes the address and payload being sent—or supports that device and runtime. The update does not specify those details. VRChat’s documented /tracking/eye/EyesClosedAmount address, its 0-to-1 range, and its 10-second timeout describe VRChat, not Climbey; do not send that address on the assumption Climbey uses it.

Treat headset and per-eye details as workflow-specific
WorldViz describes different openness data in its recorder workflow: its port 9000 path carries one shared openness value, while its port 9015 path can carry separate eye values when face-tracking sharing is enabled. Its guide also says Steam Frame openness columns do not apply in that recorder setup. Those details do not establish Climbey’s port, device support, or whether Climbey accepts separate values for each eye.

Use this troubleshooting order
- Confirm the update. Make sure Climbey has the October 2, 2026 update or a later one; consult newer Climbey release notes for any subsequent setup changes.
- Identify your connection path and headset. If you use Steam Link, check the general SteamVR OSC and sharing controls described above. Do not assume those controls exist in another runtime.
- Check the ports. Make sure the sender output and diagnostic listener use the same port. Do not infer a Climbey-specific port from another application’s documentation.
- Rule out a port conflict. If the listener cannot bind to UDP, close another application using that port and retry.
- Check for incoming messages. If none arrive, focus on the source, sharing setting, port match, and listener conflict. If messages do arrive but Climbey still shows no effect, consult current Climbey documentation or support for its expected address, payload, and hardware support rather than guessing.
