You can stream PS5 games to a Steam Deck using chiaki-ng, a third-party PlayStation Remote Play client for Linux and SteamOS. It is not an official Sony app, and it streams games running on your PS5 rather than installing them on the Deck. Start by getting a reliable connection on your home network; remote play away from home takes extra setup and may not work on every network.
Many older guides call the project Chiaki4Deck. Its current name is chiaki-ng. The project’s latest release listed in its repository is version 1.10.0, dated April 3, 2026; check the repository for current installation options and releases.
What you need
- A Steam Deck running SteamOS and a PS5 connected to the same home network for setup.
- A PlayStation Network (PSN) account used on the PS5.
- Remote Play enabled on the console and access to Desktop Mode on the Deck.
- A stable network. Ethernet for the PS5 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi for the Deck are good starting points. The Chiaki4Deck setup guidance cites 15 Mbps upload as a practical target, not an official minimum or a guarantee of smooth play. Latency, interference, packet loss and router settings also matter.
Avoid guest Wi-Fi during setup: some routers prevent devices on that network from communicating with one another. Keep a PS5 controller nearby so you can navigate the console and retrieve its temporary linking code.
Enable Remote Play on the PS5
- On the PS5, open Settings > System > Remote Play and turn on Enable Remote Play.
- If you want the Deck to wake the console from rest mode, open Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode. Turn on Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning On PS5 from Network. These settings are for wake-from-rest behavior; they are not needed when the console is already on.
- Make sure the PS5 is signed in to PSN and the intended user is available on the console. Install any pending system update before troubleshooting the client.
PS5 menu labels can change with system software. For setup and pairing context, see the PS5 Remote Play guidance.

Install chiaki-ng on the Steam Deck
- Hold the Steam Deck’s power button and choose Switch to Desktop.
- Open Discover, search for chiaki-ng (or the current Chiaki4Deck package name shown by the project), and install the package available from the software source.
- Launch the client once in Desktop Mode. If the app name or installation option differs, check the project’s GitHub repository for the current release and supported methods.
Some Flatpak installs use the package identifier io.github.streetpea.Chiaki4deck. For those installs, the documented launch command is flatpak run io.github.streetpea.Chiaki4deck. These commands are package-specific; they may not work with another build or a future package identifier. The configuration documentation has launch details.
Get your PSN account ID
Registration requires an encoded PSN account identifier. It is not necessarily your visible PSN username or email address, and it is different from the temporary code shown by the PS5. For a Flatpak installation using the identifier above, try this helper command in a Desktop Mode terminal:
flatpak run --command=psn-account-id io.github.streetpea.Chiaki4deck

Copy the helper’s output exactly into chiaki-ng’s account-ID field. The command is specific to that package; if it is unavailable, use the current method in the project repository rather than an old third-party converter. Treat the account ID as private and do not post it in screenshots or public forums. A setup demonstration shows the helper command.
Register the PS5 with chiaki-ng
Discovery, registration and streaming are separate steps: discovery finds the console, registration authorizes the Deck, and a stream begins only after registration succeeds.
- Open chiaki-ng in Desktop Mode and let it search the local network. Select your PS5 if it appears, then choose the registration option.
- Enter the encoded PSN account ID you obtained. Do not enter the PS5’s temporary linking code in this field.
- On the PS5, open Settings > System > Remote Play > Link Device. Note the temporary code displayed there.
- Enter that code in chiaki-ng and complete registration. Once the console is saved, start a local Remote Play session to confirm the setup.
If automatic discovery does not find the PS5, use manual console entry with its local IP address if that option is available. The configuration guide describes discovery and manual setup. Manual entry will not bypass a guest-network restriction, blocked local traffic or incorrect account details.

Add chiaki-ng to Gaming Mode
First make sure a stream works in Desktop Mode; that separates connection problems from Gaming Mode or controller-layout problems.
- In Desktop Mode, open Steam.
- Choose Games > Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library, select chiaki-ng, and add it.
- Return to Gaming Mode, find chiaki-ng in your library and launch it. Adjust the controller layout if necessary.
Steam’s app picker and the package’s displayed name can vary. The installation guide covers adding the client to Steam. Custom artwork and shortcuts are optional; confirm the connection before spending time on them.
Choose and configure controls
Use the Deck’s built-in controls
The built-in controls are convenient, but PS5-specific inputs may need Steam Input mapping. Use the project’s controller guidance to configure the touchpad, touchscreen and microphone. The Deck’s controls do not necessarily reproduce DualSense motion controls or haptics.

Connect a DualSense
A DualSense connected by Bluetooth or USB is a better fit for games that rely on the PlayStation touchpad, gyro, haptics or adaptive triggers. It adds another controller to charge or connect. Support for haptics and adaptive triggers depends on the game, connection method, client version and configuration. In Gaming Mode, disabling Steam Input may be needed for closer-to-native behavior and those features; consult the project’s DualSense instructions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Set a starting stream quality
Use conservative settings until you know how your network performs. The values below are starting choices, not guarantees: the best settings depend on Wi-Fi conditions, distance from the access point and the game.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Resolution: Start at 720p on the Deck’s built-in display; try 1080p if the stream remains stable or you are using an external display.
- Frame rate: Use 60 fps where supported and stable.
- Bitrate: Begin at a moderate level and increase gradually while watching for stutter. One third-party setup guide suggests 5,000–15,000 kbps as a practical range; it is not a Sony requirement or a universal optimum.
- Audio: Start with stereo and confirm sound reaches the Deck. Treat codec and HDR options as optional and dependent on software and hardware support.
A higher bitrate or resolution can improve clarity but raises network demand. Lowering either can make a congested connection more responsive. Wiring the PS5 helps its side of the link, but it cannot fix a weak wireless connection between the Deck and router.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Use Remote Play away from home
Get local play working first. Connecting over the internet is a separate, more fragile case: chiaki-ng’s issue reports include remote PSN connection failures even when local play works, including reports after PS5 firmware changes.
- Confirm a reliable local session and enable the PS5 rest-mode networking settings if you need to wake it remotely.
- If the remote connection fails, test official Remote Play from another supported device on the same remote network. That can help distinguish a console or network issue from a Deck-client issue.
- Experienced users can consider a VPN or private overlay that makes the Deck and home network reachable to each other. It adds setup and may add latency, but can avoid exposing services directly.
Do not assume port forwarding will solve every failure, and do not make it the beginner default. Hotel, school, workplace, apartment and cellular networks may block or isolate the traffic Remote Play needs.
Troubleshoot common problems
The PS5 does not appear
- Put the Deck and PS5 on the same home network and turn off guest Wi-Fi or client isolation.
- Disconnect the Deck from a VPN temporarily and check that the PS5 is on, signed in and connected to the network.
- Find the PS5’s local IP address and try manual entry if chiaki-ng offers it.
- Restart chiaki-ng, the PS5 and router; check whether firewall rules or network segmentation block local discovery.
- Test official Remote Play from a phone or computer on the same network. Discovery failures despite another working client have been reported in the project issue tracker.
Registration times out or fails
- Check that you entered the encoded PSN account ID in the account-ID field and the temporary PS5 Link Device code in the code field.
- Confirm the code is current, the intended PSN user is on the PS5, Remote Play is enabled, and both devices can communicate directly on the local network.
- Update chiaki-ng and check PS5 system software compatibility. Manual IP entry can help with discovery but cannot fix wrong credentials or blocked traffic.
The project has documented registration timeout reports; a timeout alone does not identify which of these causes applies.

Recheck both Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning On PS5 from Network under the PS5 rest-mode settings. They are specifically required for wake-from-rest behavior. See the project’s rest-mode troubleshooting discussion.
The session stutters or freezes
- Move the Deck closer to the access point and use 5 GHz Wi-Fi rather than congested 2.4 GHz where possible.
- Connect the PS5 to the router by Ethernet, pause heavy downloads and streaming, and reduce resolution or bitrate.
- Test without a VPN and consider packet loss and interference, not just headline download speed.
The picture is blurry or input feels delayed
- For blur, raise bitrate gradually and check whether quality is being reduced dynamically. A 1080p stream scaled to the Deck display can also look different from native resolution.
- For input delay, reduce wireless congestion, use Ethernet for the PS5, and lower stream quality if the connection struggles.
- Compare the Deck controls with a wired DualSense if you suspect controller or Bluetooth delay.
There is no sound or the controls do not work
- Check the Deck’s selected audio output and try restarting the session after changing audio settings. Wired headphones help isolate Bluetooth audio delay.
- If buttons work but the touchpad, touchscreen or microphone does not, review the relevant mappings in the controller configuration guide.
Steam Deck or PlayStation Portal?
For someone who already owns a Deck, trying chiaki-ng costs nothing beyond setup time. The Deck is more flexible because it also runs PC games and desktop applications, but it requires third-party software and configuration. A PlayStation Portal is a purpose-built Remote Play handheld with integrated PlayStation controls and a simpler console-focused setup, but it is less versatile than a handheld PC. Choose based on whether you value the Deck’s broader uses or a dedicated PS5 streaming device, not on an assumption that one will work better on every network.
