To schedule recurring ad breaks on a YouTube loop stream, open the stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, go to Edit > Monetization, turn monetization on, then choose Scheduled and set an interval of 6, 12, 18, 24, or 30 minutes. This is a live-stream setting, not a special loop-stream mode—and an ad slot does not guarantee that every viewer will see an ad.
Set recurring YouTube Live mid-roll ads
You can start a stream immediately or schedule it first. The recurring interval is configured on the individual stream in YouTube Studio.
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live.
- Start a stream from the Stream tab, or schedule one from Manage.
- Open the stream’s Edit > Monetization settings.
- Switch Monetization to On.
- In the live ad settings, choose Scheduled, then select 6, 12, 18, 24, or 30 minutes between breaks.
- Save or apply the settings, then check the stream’s monetization settings to confirm the selection.
The loop itself does not change this setup. YouTube’s documented controls apply to live streams generally; they do not specify a separate ad-break mode for streams that repeat prerecorded video.
Choose between Scheduled, Automatic, and Manual
Scheduled is the direct choice when you want a recurring interval. The other modes make different trade-offs in predictability and how much attention the stream needs while live.

| Mode | How it works | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled | You choose an interval of 6, 12, 18, 24, or 30 minutes. | Provides a configured cadence, but not a guarantee that an ad will serve at every slot. |
| Automatic | YouTube selects natural breakpoints. Frequency settings are Low, Medium, and High. | YouTube recommends this mode. Viewers may see ads at different times; the system can limit disruption for channel members, pause mid-rolls temporarily for viewers sending gifts, Super Chats, or Stickers, and snooze ads during high-engagement moments. YouTube characterizes higher frequency as having greater earnings potential. |
| Manual | You insert breaks during the live stream in Live Control Room. | Requires creator attention. YouTube says no mid-roll will be served in this mode if you do not insert a manual break. |
YouTube reported an average uplift of over 20% in instream ad revenue per hour in a January 2024 comparison across 207 countries. The comparison looked at channels that enabled live automatic mid-roll ads against channels that did not; it is an average comparison, not a revenue promise for an individual channel.
What the interval does—and does not—promise
- A scheduled interval sets when ad opportunities are configured; YouTube decides whether an ad is served. YouTube Help states: “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.”
- Some viewers may receive no ad and continue watching. With automatic mid-rolls, viewers may see ads at different times.
- Monetization must be on, and the stream must be eligible for monetization. Turning on the setting alone does not guarantee ads or revenue.
Channel defaults and existing streams
YouTube offers channel-level mid-roll defaults for monetized channels without rights management. Those defaults apply to newly created live streams. Do not assume that changing a default updates streams that already exist; check the settings on each existing stream you plan to use.

Do you need a Stream Deck?
No physical control is required to set scheduled intervals in Studio. YouTube Help also mentions using an Elgato Stream Deck with a YouTube plugin to insert ads, but that is an optional manual control—not a prerequisite for recurring scheduled breaks. The guidance referenced here does not establish current plugin availability or compatibility with any particular model.
Troubleshooting recurring live ad breaks
- The interval option is missing: Confirm that you are editing the stream in Live Control Room, open Edit > Monetization, and make sure monetization is on.
- No ad appeared at the expected interval: A slot is not a guaranteed impression. YouTube decides whether to serve an ad, and some viewers may see none.
- An existing stream still uses its previous setting: Check that stream directly. Channel-level defaults are for newly created streams, not a reason to assume existing streams changed.
- You selected Manual but no mid-roll ran: In Manual mode, you must insert a break in Live Control Room; YouTube says no mid-roll is served if none is inserted.
- The ads interrupt the loop at an awkward point: Consider Automatic mode, which targets natural breakpoints, or choose a longer Scheduled interval. Automatic placement can vary by viewer and does not promise a specific insertion point.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded video in the cloud; configure ad breaks separately in YouTube Studio as described above.
