To rotate bhajans each week, update the playlist in OBS before the event, then schedule that week’s livestream in YouTube Studio. OBS can play a fixed sequence or shuffle and repeat a playlist, but its documented playlist controls do not automatically replace the list on a weekly calendar. Plan on a manual weekly update unless you set up and test separate automation.
Build the week’s playlist in OBS
Use a regular Media Source when you have one recording to repeat. For several local audio or video files, use OBS’s VLC Video source. VLC must be installed separately for that source to appear, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. See the OBS media sources guide for the source controls.
For one repeating recording
- In OBS, add a Media Source to the scene you will use for the livestream.
- Select the recording file and enable its loop option so playback starts again when it reaches the end.
- Preview the scene and confirm that both the picture and sound repeat as expected.
For a playlist of several files
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. Match its 32-bit or 64-bit version to your OBS installation; 64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source and add the files for the current week in the intended sequence.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist off if you want a planned devotional order. Turn it on only when you want the sequence randomized.
- Enable Loop Playlist if you want the full list to repeat. Check the preview to verify the sequence and loop behavior.
Keep the week’s authorized files in a clearly named folder or list, and save the relevant OBS scene collection or profile with an identifiable name. Before each event, replace or reorder the VLC source’s files for that week and test them. Looping repeats the current list; it does not swap in a new list on a weekday or calendar schedule.
Schedule and start the YouTube livestream
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live, then open the Manage tab to schedule the event. Create a new stream or reuse settings from a previous stream, and verify its title, date and time, and privacy setting. Scheduling can make the event appear as upcoming, allow viewers to set reminders, and give you a watch URL to share. See YouTube’s instructions for scheduling a livestream.
- Open the event in Live Control Room and obtain the stream URL and stream key. In OBS, enter those connection details in its streaming settings. Keep the key private: it authorizes an encoder to send a feed to your channel.
- Start the OBS encoder early enough to check the incoming preview in Live Control Room. When the preview looks and sounds right, start the scheduled YouTube event. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand. Check YouTube’s encoder setup guidance for the current Live Control Room steps.
- Confirm that the watch page is accessible and monitor the audio and picture during the broadcast. If you are unsure about the setup, run an unlisted or otherwise suitable test stream before the public event.
Make the weekly change a deliberate routine
YouTube Studio schedules the event; OBS supplies the encoded playback feed. The official controls described above cover playlist order, shuffle, looping, and stream scheduling—not automatic weekly replacement of the OBS playlist. For a dependable rotation, update the OBS list manually before each week’s event and test the new order. If you separately configure a scheduler or automation, verify that it changes the intended playlist and starts the right event before relying on it.

- Confirm the current week’s files are present and in the planned order.
- Play through the files and check the loop behavior in the OBS preview.
- Verify that the YouTube event has the correct title, date, time, privacy, and reused settings.
- Start OBS early, inspect the Live Control Room preview, and check sound and picture before going public.
Check rights for recordings and visuals
A traditional devotional composition does not automatically make a particular recording rights-free. Check permissions for the specific sound recording, performance, arrangement, and any image or video, including whether the rights cover livestreaming and keeping an archive or monetizing it. YouTube describes safe music as public-domain music or music you have permission to use; calling a track “free” does not itself prevent a Content ID claim. Its music copyright guidance explains the distinction.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A detected match can cause the stream to be replaced with a placeholder or interrupted or terminated. Even if you hold a license, a match may still interrupt the broadcast unless the rights owner adds your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
