YouTube Shopping has two routes: connect your own supported store to showcase your products, or—if your channel qualifies—join the YouTube Shopping affiliate program to tag products from other brands. In YouTube Studio, open Earn > Shopping to check which options are available to your channel. The steps and eligibility differ, so choose the route that matches what you want to sell.
Choose the right YouTube Shopping route

Check the YouTube Shopping eligibility requirements and the current Shopping page in Studio before troubleshooting missing controls. Channel eligibility, country availability, supported retailers, and catalog rules can change.
Set up Shopping for your own store
- Prepare your store. Set it up with a platform or retailer YouTube supports. YouTube’s store connection guidance lists the requirements and supported options.
- Open YouTube Studio on a computer. Sign in to the channel that owns the store and content.
- Go to Earn > Shopping. If your channel is eligible and no store is connected, choose Get Started. To link another store, choose Connect new store.
- Follow the on-screen linking instructions. Complete the connection with the store platform or retailer. For Shopify, the documented setup route uses the Google & YouTube app in Shopify and then the YouTube Shopping setup flow; see Shopify’s YouTube Shopping setup instructions.
- Review the products that become eligible to display. Once a store is connected and at least one product is eligible, products may appear automatically in eligible channel and video surfaces. You can manage ordering and tag or rearrange up to 60 items for an individual video or Short; that is a limit, not a recommended tag count. Details are in YouTube’s store setup guidance.
Join the affiliate program for other brands
Affiliate tagging is not available to every channel. YouTube’s published requirements include membership in the YouTube Partner Program and meeting its subscriber threshold, living in a participating country, and not being a music channel, an Official Artist Channel, or a channel with a Made for Kids audience or a significant number of Made for Kids videos.
When checked on October 3, 2026, YouTube’s listed countries were Argentina, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam. This list can change; confirm current availability in Studio and on YouTube’s affiliate program eligibility page.

- In YouTube Studio, open Earn.
- Look for the Shopping or affiliate program option. If your channel is eligible, follow the sign-up instructions shown there.
- After enrollment, select eligible products from the available catalog when tagging content. An ordinary affiliate link does not by itself create a YouTube product tag.
Amazon products have extra requirements
YouTube documents Amazon product tagging for creators enrolled in its Shopping affiliate program in the United States, Brazil, or India. In the United States, the creator must also have an active Amazon Influencer Program or Amazon Associates Program account in good standing and link the YouTube channel to it. Check YouTube’s Amazon product tagging guidance for the current conditions. These rules do not mean every creator can tag every Amazon listing.
Tag products in videos, Shorts, and live streams
YouTube’s creator instructions use the task heading “Tag products in your content”. Eligible creators can tag products manually or use auto-tagging where available. The precise controls can vary with the content format and current Studio interface.

Long-form videos
- In YouTube Studio, open the video you want to edit and find its Shopping or product-tagging controls.
- Select eligible products from your connected store or affiliate catalog, as applicable, and save the changes.
- Check the resulting product list and order. Viewers see a Shopping button on eligible long-form videos.
Shorts
- Open the Short’s product-tagging controls in Studio or the available mobile workflow.
- Add relevant products and order them deliberately: the first tagged product initially appears on the product sticker.
- In the YouTube mobile app, move and resize the sticker if those editing controls are available, then review the Short before publishing or saving edits.
Live streams
Eligible creators can tag their own products or other brands’ products during live streams, subject to the applicable Shopping criteria. Pin a product to highlight it; viewers can open the Shopping panel to browse tagged items. See YouTube’s Shopping setup guidance for the current live-stream options.
Make tags relevant and easy to trust
Use a tag when the product is identifiable and prominent, meaningfully connected to the content, clearly depicted, and shown being used as intended. A review, demonstration, or genuine integration gives viewers useful context; a fleeting, obscured appearance does not. YouTube’s guideline says: “Products are meaningfully related to your content.” Its full guidance is on Tag products in your content.

- Tag the specific product viewers can recognize, not a vaguely similar item.
- Make the product’s role clear in the video or Short, verbally or with on-screen text.
- For Shorts, place the most relevant product first if you want it featured initially on the sticker.
- Do not treat the maximum item count as a target; a smaller, accurate selection is more useful than a long list of loosely related products.
What viewers see and how commissions work
Viewers can discover tagged products through Shopping surfaces and are generally redirected to the retailer to buy. The retailer controls product information, availability, shipping, and purchase terms. Product visibility can differ by viewer location and shipping availability; see YouTube’s Shopping information.
For affiliate items, the commission percentage shown while tagging is an estimate based on the current rate. The payout uses the rate in effect on the purchase date, and rates vary by item and brand. Do not present an on-screen estimate as a guaranteed commission; consult the current affiliate program terms.

Troubleshoot missing or invisible product tags
A tag control may be absent, or a tag may not appear to a particular viewer, for different reasons. Check the relevant cause rather than repeatedly editing the same product list.
