For one video, enable VLC’s repeat-current mode; for a playlist, use repeat-all. Those settings control playback in VLC—they do not, by themselves, send the video to YouTube Live. You also need a compatible encoder feed configured for your channel’s current ingest settings. The available official documentation does not establish a complete current direct VLC-to-YouTube setup, so test your full workflow before relying on it.
Choose the right VLC repeat mode
| What you want | VLC playback behavior |
|---|---|
| Repeat one video | Repeat the current item. |
| Play several videos in order, then start again | Repeat all items in the playlist. |
VideoLAN’s playlist API distinguishes repeat-current from repeat-all; it describes the modes but is not a version-specific walkthrough of VLC’s desktop controls. See the VideoLAN playlist API.
Set up the playlist for back-to-back playback
- For one video: open the file in VLC and select the repeat-current playback mode in the playlist or playback controls. Confirm the control indicates that the current item will repeat.
- For multiple videos: add the files to a VLC playlist in the order you want them played. Select repeat-all so VLC cycles through the list rather than stopping after the final item.
- Test locally: play through a file boundary and confirm the next item starts, or that the single item restarts. VLC’s repeat setting controls the sequence; it does not guarantee that viewers receive uninterrupted playback over a separate streaming connection.
What VLM and sout-keep do—and do not establish
For a more configured broadcast, VLC’s VLM reference describes a channel with successive inputs: playback starts with the first input and proceeds to the next, like a playlist. Its broadcast loop option restarts the input list after the final input finishes. See the VLC 3.0 VLM documentation.
VideoLAN’s VLC 3.0 desktop documentation also shows sout-keep in a playlist broadcast example so the stream output remains open as one song ends and another begins. That example sends an HTTP stream to a receiver; it is a continuity reference, not proof that the same configuration works with YouTube Live. See VideoLAN’s streaming documentation. Do not copy a command or output chain into a YouTube setup without verifying that it matches your VLC build and the ingest protocol YouTube currently offers for your broadcast.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Connect VLC playback to YouTube Live separately
VLC’s repeat controls handle which local media plays next. YouTube Live requires a compatible encoder feed and the ingest settings shown for your channel in Live Control Room. A locally looping playlist is not evidence that YouTube is receiving it, and the available VideoLAN and YouTube documentation does not provide a complete current direct VLC-desktop-to-YouTube recipe.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, check the ingest protocol and settings for the broadcast you are preparing.
- Configure an encoder that supports those settings to send the VLC media sequence to YouTube. Do not assume a particular VLC output chain is compatible unless its requirements have been verified for your VLC version and YouTube’s selected ingest protocol.
- Start a test broadcast and check the received picture and sound across the transition between files. Confirm that the stream remains connected and that the next file begins as expected before using the setup for an event.
YouTube’s cited setup page covers HLS specifically, not every ingest protocol. It says HLS uses 1–4 second segments and has higher latency than RTMP because it sends segments. Treat those requirements and the latency note as HLS-specific; do not apply them as universal settings. See YouTube’s HLS ingestion setup guide.

Common problems and what to check
- VLC stops after one video: check that the files are in a playlist and repeat-all is selected, rather than repeat-current or no repeat.
- The same video repeats instead of advancing: select repeat-all for a playlist; repeat-current is intended to repeat the selected item.
- VLC loops locally but YouTube is not live: repeat controls do not create the YouTube ingest connection. Check the encoder feed and the current channel settings in Live Control Room.
- The stream breaks at a file boundary: VLC’s documented
sout-keepexample illustrates keeping output open across successive inputs, but its HTTP receiver context does not verify YouTube compatibility. Test the complete setup and confirm its output is accepted by the selected ingest protocol. - There is a pause or the transition is unverified: test the actual files and full delivery path. A playlist setting alone cannot guarantee gap-free playback for viewers.
- You are following HLS settings while using another protocol: use the requirements for the protocol selected in Live Control Room. The cited 1–4 second segment duration is for HLS only.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube channel that keeps uploaded videos looping without leaving a computer running at home, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube only.
- Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream continues from the cloud.
- Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot with no quality tiers.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
