The subscription remains tied to the account that pays for it, and some benefits—including cloud storage and redeeming monthly games on another account—are not shared.
How do I share PlayStation Plus with family?
- Sign in with the account that has PlayStation Plus. The membership belongs to that PlayStation account; it is not transferred to other family members’ accounts.
- Configure the console the family shares. On PS5, enable Console Sharing and Offline Play. On PS4, activate the console as the subscriber’s primary PS4.
- Have each family member play on their own account on that console. Sony makes selected benefits available to accounts using the configured console.
- Check family and parental controls for children. Access to games and online multiplayer can depend on age ratings and the child’s settings.
Sony describes the feature as sharing certain benefits on one PS5 and one PS4. It is not a way to extend the subscription to another household’s separate console.
Set up sharing on PS5
- Sign into the PS5 using the PlayStation account with the active Plus membership.
- Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play.
- Select Enable.
- Have other family members sign into their own accounts on that PS5.
Sony allows Console Sharing and Offline Play on one PS5 at a time for the account. If it is enabled on another PS5, disable it on that console before enabling it on the one your family uses. The setting is automatically allowed on the first PS5 used to sign in to PlayStation. See Sony’s PS5 Console Sharing and Offline Play guide for the current instructions.
Set up sharing on PS4
Activate the PS4 as the PlayStation Plus subscriber’s primary PS4, then let family members use their own accounts on it. Sony’s sharing instructions require this primary-console activation for PS4 sharing. For the activation steps, use Sony’s primary PS4 activation guide.

Can I share PS Plus on PS4 and PS5?
Yes. Sony’s stated scope is one PS5 with Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled and one PS4 activated as the subscriber’s primary console. These are separate platform settings; enabling PS5 sharing does not remove the PS4 primary-console requirement.

What does family sharing include—and what does it not include?
Sony lists the following as shareable on the configured PS5 or primary PS4. Availability of game and catalog titles depends on the membership plan.

- Downloaded monthly PlayStation Plus games.
- PlayStation Plus game-catalog titles, depending on the membership plan.
These benefits are not shared with the other accounts on the console:
- Buying PlayStation Store products at a Plus discount.
- Redeeming monthly Plus games on another account.
- Online storage.
- Automatic patch downloads.
- Early access to time-limited game trials.
In practical terms, another account may be able to play eligible games installed on the shared console, but it does not become a Plus subscriber or receive every personal account benefit. Sony’s sharing page lists which benefits are included and excluded: PlayStation Plus benefits that can be shared.

Can I share PlayStation Plus with someone on another console?
No. The sharing setup applies to accounts on the configured PS5 and primary PS4, not a friend using a different console. Sony’s guidance explicitly limits sharing to the console where Console Sharing and Offline Play is activated and the subscriber’s primary PS4.
What if a family member cannot access a Plus game?
- Confirm the correct account owns or claimed the game. The Plus account must have purchased the discounted game or redeemed the monthly game.
- Check that the subscription is active. Shared access depends on the subscriber’s membership.
- Verify the console setting. On PS5, check that Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled for the subscriber’s account; on PS4, confirm it is the primary PS4.
- Review child restrictions. Age ratings and parental controls can prevent a child account from accessing particular games or online multiplayer.

Console sharing is not Share Play
Console Sharing and Offline Play is the PS5 setting that makes selected benefits available to other accounts on that console. Share Play is a separate feature for inviting a remote visitor to join or watch gameplay. It does not set up family access to a Plus membership.
Children and family accounts
A child account does not bypass age restrictions when using shared Plus games or online features. Sony says access is controlled by the family manager’s parental controls; a child may also subscribe using the family manager’s wallet, subject to the child’s spending limit. Sony’s support material can vary by region, so check the guidance for your country if labels or membership terms differ.
