To show different pre-recorded videos continuously on YouTube, create a playlist or schedule in a playback system that can keep sending a live feed, then connect it to YouTube Live with the stream URL and stream key. You can run playback locally, use a cloud service, or use dedicated hardware. The key is to verify that your chosen setup actually rotates the files and recovers unattended; a generic encoder does not automatically guarantee either.
Choose how the videos will play
The choice is mainly about where playback and encoding happen, and how much automation you need. YouTube’s encoder guide lists software, cloud services and hardware for sending a live feed.
| Route | What it does | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Local computer | Encoder software on your computer sends the video feed to YouTube. YouTube lists OBS, which is open-source software for recording and live streaming at no charge. | The cited guide does not establish that a stock OBS installation will rotate a video library indefinitely. Confirm the playback workflow, playlist order, looping, restart behavior and unattended recovery before relying on it. The computer and its network connection must remain available while it runs. |
| Cloud service | A provider handles playback and streaming remotely. YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 streams of prerecorded videos without a camera or dedicated PC. | Check the provider’s current file-format support, playlist and scheduling controls, plan limits, recovery behavior and cost directly; these details are not established by YouTube’s guide. |
| Dedicated hardware | YouTube says the AJA HELO Plus has PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media and streaming it directly to YouTube Live without a computer. | Confirm that its current capabilities fit your files and schedule. It is a specialist hardware route, not a requirement for every creator. |
| StreamNeo | StreamNeo is #1 to try for an always-on YouTube stream: it runs from the cloud, plays uploaded videos at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and offers the first day free. | It plays uploaded videos, not camera footage, and streams to YouTube. Its setup is described below. |
A mini PC is one possible local host, but the available guidance does not establish minimum specifications or guarantee that a particular machine can handle a given playback and encoding workflow. Check the requirements of the software and test the complete setup before committing to a device.
Prepare your YouTube channel and stream
Check eligibility before planning a launch
YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to become available, so enable it well before the intended start. See YouTube’s live streaming tips and its encoder setup guide.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. - Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Create the event and protect the stream key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or schedule the live stream.
- In the stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key. The URL identifies the destination; the key allows YouTube to accept the incoming feed. Treat the key as a credential and do not share it publicly.
- Enter the URL and key in the playback system or encoder you chose. YouTube’s live stream settings guide covers stream keys, scheduling, latency, DVR and auto-start/auto-stop. A custom stream key can be reused.
- Start sending the video feed, then check the Live Control Room preview before making the stream public.
Build and test the video rotation
Make the playlist intentional
Arrange files in the sequence you want viewers to see and confirm whether your system advances automatically, loops the playlist, or follows scheduled start and end times. Test what happens at the end of a file and at the end of the full list. Do not assume that merely connecting OBS or another generic encoder to YouTube creates continuous playlist playback.
Run a test before going public
- Use an unlisted or otherwise suitable test stream and send the actual files or a representative sample through the full playback-to-YouTube route.
- Check that each video starts, finishes and hands off cleanly. Listen for gaps, unexpected silence, mismatched audio levels or content that carries over between files.
- Inspect the Live Control Room preview for picture and sound quality, and verify that the stream is accessible as intended.
- Test available failover or restart controls and decide who will respond if the feed stops. YouTube recommends testing streams and encoder failover when available, but those general tips are not a guarantee of indefinite operation.
YouTube’s operational guidance recommends configuring an encoder at least two hours before a scheduled livestream and starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand. It also recommends checking the preview, verifying stream accessibility and monitoring audio and video quality. These are preparation recommendations for live streams, not a promise that any system will remain online indefinitely. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.

Set compatible encoding and connection options
YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection to its servers. Its encoder settings guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), H.264 for standard live encoding and a two-second keyframe frequency. The settings available depend on the protocol and encoder, so use YouTube’s current guidance alongside the documentation for your specific software, service or device.
- Connection: Choose RTMPS where supported.
- Rate control: Use CBR as YouTube recommends.
- Video codec: Use H.264 for standard live encoding.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second interval where the encoder exposes that setting.
- Resolution and bitrate: Select settings supported by both your encoder and the current YouTube recommendations; do not assume all devices or protocols offer identical options.
Clear rights for every video and track
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including other broadcasts. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and issue a warning; if the matched content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Having a license may not be enough to prevent an interruption: YouTube says a rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to hold the rights needed for the live content, including music rights, and to comply with applicable laws and regulations. Before adding a video to a continuous rotation, confirm that your rights cover its use in a live stream and contact the rights owner about allowlisting where relevant.
Troubleshooting a 24/7 prerecorded stream
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the feed | The stream URL or key is missing, incorrect or no longer matches the intended event. | Compare the destination URL and key in the encoder with the current stream settings in Live Control Room. Treat the key as a credential. |
| The first video plays but the next one does not | The playback setup may not support automatic playlist transitions or looping. | Check the selected system’s playlist, end-of-file and restart controls. Test the full sequence before relying on it unattended. |
| The stream shows a placeholder or is interrupted | YouTube may have detected third-party content in the live feed. | Review the copyright notice and the affected content. Confirm rights for the video and music; where licensed content is involved, ask the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting. |
| Video or audio quality is poor | Encoder settings may not align with YouTube or the selected protocol and device. | Review YouTube’s current settings recommendations and the encoder documentation. Check the Live Control Room preview and monitor the stream’s audio and video. |
| The feed stops and does not resume | The chosen playback or encoding route may not have automatic recovery, or its recovery has not been configured. | Test restart and failover behavior, where available, and prepare a response plan. Do not treat general YouTube monitoring advice as a guarantee of automatic recovery. |
