To show a changing song title on a 24/7 YouTube lofi stream, add an OBS Browser Source for a web overlay or a Text Source fed by a file, then connect it to a source that actually knows the current track. OBS displays the label; it does not identify songs on its own. Choose metadata from a known playlist or chapters, playback software, or an audio-recognition service, and test that it stays in sync through track changes and interruptions.
Choose how the stream will know which song is playing
The right approach depends on how your lofi audio is played. A title overlay is only as accurate as the metadata source behind it.
Curated sequence with matching track markers
If the music follows a fixed sequence, an overlay may use YouTube chapters or a playlist written in the video description as its track list. The OBS Forums resource Music on stream documents these inputs. This is a third-party community resource, not a feature guaranteed by OBS; check that it remains compatible with your current setup and that its sequence matches the actual playback order.
Player or system provides track metadata
If the software playing the music exposes the current title and artist, an integration can pass that information to a text file, local page, or overlay. For example, the OBS Forums resource for Melody Monitor describes a Windows playback-metadata approach. Verify its current platform and OBS compatibility before relying on it.

Audio recognition
An audio-recognition overlay tries to identify music by listening to the stream audio. Glitch Studios describes a Browser Source workflow for its Now Playing overlay, but recognition can fail, especially with quiet, obscure, remixed, or overlapping audio. Treat the vendor’s accuracy and availability statements as claims, not guarantees.
Add the title display in OBS
OBS offers the display elements; a separate overlay, integration, or file-updating process must supply the changing track information. OBS documents Browser Source as a way to embed a web page in a scene and Text Sources as rendered text that can read from a file: Browser Source and Text Sources.

- Identify your metadata source. Decide whether it is a chapter or playlist sequence, playback metadata, or audio recognition. Confirm its supported player, operating system, and any account or data-sharing requirements before setup.
- Add the display source. In your lofi scene, add a Browser Source if your overlay provides a web page. If an integration writes the current title to a text file, add a Text Source and enable its text-file input, then select the file the integration updates.
- Position and style it. Place the title over a clear part of the artwork, away from important visual details. Preview at the stream’s intended output size: text that looks readable in the OBS canvas may be too small on a phone.
- Test real playback. Watch several transitions and compare each displayed title with the audible track. Also test a pause, scene switch, browser refresh, OBS restart, and any stream restart or recovery your workflow may encounter.
Check synchronization and stale-title behavior
For a continuous broadcast, verify more than whether the overlay appears once. Confirm how it behaves when a track ends, the music pauses, or playback resumes after an interruption. A title left on screen after its song has ended can mislead viewers; determine whether your integration clears, replaces, or retains the last value in each case.
- Check that the displayed title changes at the right point in the audio, rather than early or several minutes late.
- Confirm what happens when metadata is missing or recognition cannot identify a track.
- Restart the relevant player, overlay, and OBS scene or session to see whether updates resume without manual intervention.
- Consider privacy and reliability: a third-party overlay may process playback or audio data, and its maintenance and compatibility are separate from OBS.
A song label does not grant music rights
Attribution and permission are separate. YouTube says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content; it may show a placeholder, interrupt the stream, or terminate it if the content remains. YouTube also warns that a licensed stream may still be interrupted if the rights holder has not added the channel to its allowlist. See YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams. Before broadcasting music, establish the necessary streaming rights and ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting where applicable.
