To show YouTube chat to viewers beside your video in Streamlabs Talk Studio, connect YouTube to your Streamlabs account, then enable the integrated Chat Box widget under Apps (Shift+P) > Widgets > Connect Streamlabs. Select the widget on the canvas and resize or position it. If you only need to read chat as the host, use Talk Studio’s separate Chat panel instead.
Choose the chat view you need

These are separate surfaces. Streamlabs’ Talk Studio Chat documentation distinguishes private chat for guests—which is not shown in the livestream—from the audience-facing Chat Box widget.

Connect YouTube in Streamlabs
In your Streamlabs account settings, open Platforms and connect the YouTube account you use for the destination. Streamlabs’ Chat Box documentation lists YouTube as a supported platform. If YouTube is not available in your account, check the current platform and account eligibility shown in Streamlabs.

Add the integrated widget
In Talk Studio, open Apps (or press Shift+P), choose Widgets > Connect Streamlabs, and switch on Chat Box.

Place and size it
Select the Chat Box on the main canvas. Drag its corners to resize it, then position it beside or over the video area where you want viewers to see messages. Keep it within the visible canvas and avoid covering important gameplay, captions, or other on-screen information.

Set its appearance and platform
In the Streamlabs Dashboard, open All Widgets > Chat Box. Use the available controls to select the platform and adjust the visual style, font color, and font size. The exact appearance controls and account interface may change, so use the labels currently shown in your dashboard.

Check the result before going live
Confirm that the widget is visible on the canvas and legible at the intended size. If the operator needs to monitor or respond to messages privately, open Talk Studio’s Chat panel as well; enabling the public Chat Box does not replace that control panel.
If you are using streaming software other than Talk Studio
Streamlabs documents a separate browser-source method for other streaming software: copy the Chat Box widget URL from the Streamlabs Dashboard and add it as a browser source in that software. Talk Studio has its own integrated Widgets workflow, so use the canvas method above there rather than treating the browser-source route as a required step.

What viewers see on YouTube
YouTube’s Live Chat feature appears on YouTube watch pages, not in embedded players, according to YouTube Help’s “Learn about live streams” documentation. That limitation concerns YouTube’s own player chat. It is different from a Chat Box rendered into the video stream: the overlay is part of the broadcast image, while the YouTube watch-page chat is a separate interface.
Troubleshooting
- Chat is visible to you but not in the broadcast: You may have opened the operator Chat panel rather than enabling the audience-facing Chat Box. Use Apps (Shift+P) > Widgets > Connect Streamlabs and turn on Chat Box.
- The Chat Box option or widget is missing: Confirm that you are in Talk Studio’s integrated Widgets menu and that your Streamlabs account is connected. Streamlabs’ documentation does not comprehensively establish every account-eligibility or regional condition; check current account settings and Streamlabs’ current interface if the control remains unavailable.
- The widget appears but does not show the intended platform: Check the connected destination under Streamlabs account settings > Platforms, then verify platform selection under Dashboard > All Widgets > Chat Box.
- The chat is too small, obscures the video, or is hard to read: Select it on the Talk Studio canvas and drag its corners to adjust size and placement; change font color or size in the Dashboard’s Chat Box settings.
- You expected chat to appear inside an embedded YouTube player: YouTube says Live Chat is available on watch pages, not embedded players. A Chat Box overlay is part of the stream image and is not the same as YouTube’s interactive chat panel.
