To shuffle prerecorded gaming videos in a continuous YouTube livestream, use an encoder or automation system that can select and advance through your video files in a randomized order, then send its continuous output to YouTube Live. YouTube supplies the live-stream destination and stream key; the shuffle, file changes, and end-of-list behavior must be handled by the system feeding the encoder. YouTube’s playlist-loop instructions describe ordinary video playback, not a shuffled encoder input.
How the setup works
The workflow has two separate parts: a source workflow chooses and plays the gaming videos, and an encoder sends the resulting continuous feed to YouTube Live. YouTube identifies encoder streaming as a suitable option for gameplay and explains connecting an encoder with the stream URL and key (YouTube encoder setup; YouTube live-streaming overview).
Do not assume a YouTube playlist will shuffle the files going into an encoder. YouTube’s instructions for looping a video or playlist concern watching videos on YouTube; they do not document using that playlist as a randomized encoder source (Loop videos or playlists on YouTube).
Set up a shuffled continuous feed
- Choose a source and encoder workflow. Use a system that can play your prerecorded files into a continuous feed and send that feed to YouTube Live. Before relying on it, confirm that it supports randomized selection, automatic next-file playback, your video and audio formats, YouTube output, and the behavior you want after the final file. The YouTube guidance cited here does not verify shuffle support or specific software controls.
- Prepare the files and shuffle behavior. Add the gaming videos you have permission to stream to the source system. Decide whether files may repeat before the list ends, whether the order should reshuffle after a full pass, and what should happen when playback reaches the end. These are settings of the source or automation system, not YouTube Live settings.
- Create or select the live event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select a stream. Retrieve the stream URL and stream key, then enter them in the encoder as directed by YouTube’s encoder setup guidance (YouTube encoder setup).
- Keep the key private. Treat the stream key as a credential that allows an encoder to send a feed to your channel. Enter it only in the intended encoder and do not share it.
- Test privately or unlisted. Start an end-to-end test and check the Live Control Room preview before making the event public. YouTube recommends testing, checking accessibility, and monitoring audio and video quality (YouTube live-streaming tips; YouTube encoder settings).
- Verify the shuffle independently. Confirm that the order is randomized as intended, files advance without manual intervention, transitions do not cut off important audio, and the system behaves correctly when the list ends. Check that the feed resumes as expected if the source or encoder is restarted.
- Go public only when the test is sound. Check the YouTube preview and stream health, then start the public event. When finished, stop the encoder and confirm in Live Control Room that the event has ended.
Settings and behavior that matter
Random order and repeats
“Shuffle” can mean a new random order each time playback starts, random selection that can repeat the same file, or a shuffled pass that avoids repeats until every file has played. Choose the behavior deliberately and test it; the cited YouTube guidance does not define these source-playlist options.

Continuous playback and transitions
Check how the source system handles the gap between files, different audio levels, and the end of the list. A continuous YouTube event depends on the encoder continuing to receive a feed; the source workflow must therefore have a defined next-file or restart behavior. Do not infer unattended playback from YouTube’s ability to receive an encoder stream.
Encoder connection and stream health
Use the stream URL and key shown for the selected YouTube event. YouTube recommends testing beforehand, monitoring stream health, and selecting a reliable bitrate suited to the upload connection (YouTube encoder settings). The appropriate bitrate depends on the chosen output and connection; the cited guidance does not establish a single bitrate for every gaming-video feed.

HLS is a transport option, not a shuffle feature
If you choose HLS ingestion, follow YouTube’s protocol requirements: use TS segments lasting 1–4 seconds, do not use byte ranges, send HTTPS POST/PUT requests, and maintain a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. These are HLS ingestion rules, not instructions for randomizing the gaming videos. YouTube lists OBS among encoders that support HLS output (YouTube HLS ingestion requirements).
DVR affects viewers, not your source list
YouTube’s DVR option lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume a live event. It does not shuffle, select, or reorder the prerecorded files sent by your encoder (YouTube live-streaming tips).

Copyright and channel considerations
Only stream gameplay footage and audio you have the rights or permissions to use. A continuous broadcast does not change the need to follow YouTube’s copyright rules. Also consider whether your channel’s presentation adds clear value beyond repeatedly showing prerecorded material; this workflow guide does not establish how YouTube will assess an individual channel or its monetization eligibility.
Troubleshooting
- YouTube receives no video: Confirm that the encoder is running, that it is sending to the stream URL for the selected event, and that the correct key is entered. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health.
- The same video repeats or order is not random: Inspect the source system’s shuffle and repeat settings. Test a short sequence and observe whether it avoids repeats or simply selects randomly.
- Playback stops after one file or at the list’s end: Check automatic next-file playback and end-of-list behavior in the source workflow. A YouTube live event does not itself advance local video files.
- There is silence, clipped audio, or abrupt changes: Check each source file’s audio and the transitions between files during a local or private test. Monitor the YouTube preview before going public.
- The stream becomes unstable: Check the encoder’s stream-health information and whether the upload connection can sustain the selected bitrate. YouTube recommends using a reliable bitrate appropriate to the connection.
- HLS ingestion is rejected: If using HLS, verify TS segment duration, HTTPS POST/PUT delivery, no byte ranges, and the rolling-playlist limit in YouTube’s HLS requirements.
