Collect all 10 small cogwheels, carry them from chamber to chamber, fit them around each room’s fixed large gears, and pull the lever when every tooth is meshing. The route ends at River Bank, where all 10 small gears are required.
How the Khmer Cogwheel puzzles work
Each room contains large gears that cannot be moved and sockets for the small cogwheels you carry. Place small gears so the teeth form one unbroken train from the powered gear to the mechanism, then activate the lever. The diagrams allow more than one valid arrangement; the test is continuous meshing and successful lever activation, not one mandatory picture.
- There are 10 movable small cogwheels (GameSpot, 2024).
- Small gears are reusable. Remove them before leaving every completed room.
- Fixed large gears remain in their chambers.
- Most completed mechanisms award a Sukhothai Relic; the first area is the exception noted by GameSpot.
- Photograph the exterior pillar at each puzzle site to earn Adventure Points.
Where are all the Khmer Cogwheel puzzles?
Follow this order to avoid running short of gears or creating unnecessary backtracking. The two Blessed Pearl rooms are separate mechanisms, while River Bank is the final tracked challenge.
| Stop | Small gears needed | Access and important detail |
|---|---|---|
| The Blessed Pearl — right chamber | 3 | Swim past the Yaek statue to the waterwheel chamber; two gears are on the floor and one is on a ledge in the adjacent room. |
| The Blessed Pearl — left chamber | Use the same 3 | Reuse the gears in the left mechanism; the completed machine opens the gate toward the Hidden Pyramid. |
| Waterfall Ruins | 4 | Western Sukhothai; pick up the additional small gear in the room. |
| Wat Mahathat | 5 | On the island containing the central temple. |
| Wat Si Sawai | 6 | Use the overworld puzzle area. The underground section is part of the Kid Who Vanished side quest, not this chain. |
| Hidden Platform | Not stated | Fast-travel to Wat Chana Songkhram, take the boat east, then dive through the wall opening with the Rebreather. |
| Village | Not stated | Use the Rebreather through the underwater opening; the diagram’s small gears make an inverted-L pattern from top to bottom. |
| River Bank — final chamber | All 10 | Appears on the map after the preceding challenges and uses every collected small cogwheel with the fixed gears. |
The Blessed Pearl: right-side chamber
Reach the waterwheel room
After swimming underwater past the Yaek statue, enter the chamber on the right. Two small cogwheels lie on the floor. The third is on a ledge in the adjacent room.

Build the first train
Carry all three small gears back to the right-hand mechanism. Fit them between the room’s large gears so each neighboring tooth engages. Pull the lever once the train is continuous, then take all three small gears back out.
The Blessed Pearl: left-side chamber
Reuse the same gears
Use the three small cogwheels you just recovered in the left-hand mechanism, meshing them with its fixed large gears. Activate the lever to open the stone gate toward the Hidden Pyramid.
Before moving on, remove the small gears again. Leaving them in either Blessed Pearl machine can block progress at later stops.
Waterfall Ruins
Travel to western Sukhothai and enter the Waterfall Ruins puzzle room. Pick up the additional small cogwheel inside; four small gears are needed here. Arrange the four movable gears with the fixed large gears into a continuous train, pull the lever, and retrieve the complete set before departing.
Wat Mahathat
Go to the island containing the central temple at Wat Mahathat. Bring five small cogwheels and mesh them with the chamber’s fixed gears. Once the lever activates the machine, collect every movable gear for the next location.
Wat Si Sawai
Use the overworld area of Wat Si Sawai for this puzzle. Six small cogwheels work with the two large fixed gears. The underground area is associated with the Kid Who Vanished side quest, so do not search there for this cogwheel room. Complete the train, operate the lever, and reclaim the six small gears.

Hidden Platform
Boat route from Wat Chana Songkhram
- Fast-travel to Wat Chana Songkhram.
- Take the boat east.
- At the opening in the walls, dive with the Rebreather.
- Enter the chamber and solve the gear train with the movable gears you have preserved.
- Pull the lever and remove the small gears before returning to the boat route.
Village
Use the Rebreather again to pass the underwater opening into the Village chamber. In the room’s diagram, the small gears form an inverted-L pattern from top to bottom. Treat that as a placement guide, but confirm that every tooth meshes continuously before pulling the lever. Collect the small gears again after the mechanism activates.
River Bank: the final 10-gear puzzle
After the preceding challenges, River Bank appears on the map. This is the hardest chamber because it combines the fixed large gears with all 10 small cogwheels. Bring the entire set, arrange a continuous train, and pull the lever. The River Bank completion finishes the tracked Khmer Cogwheel chain, so do not leave any small gear behind at an earlier stop.

GameSpot’s December 12, 2024 guide reports six additional relics from the completed cogwheel endeavor, with the first area’s reward exception noted above. These relics count toward Sukhothai completion and broader collectible progress.
The same guide reports that Tongdang can sell a Sukhothai Cogwheels booklet for 700 baht. Treat that price as version-sensitive and check the current in-game shop before relying on it.
Do not confuse these with the Secret Khmer Vault
The Secret Khmer Vault uses a different symbol-pedestal system, not the Sukhothai gear-room chain. Its keys carry circle, diamond and cross symbols. Insert a key to stop the matching rotating ring, wait for the required symbols to align, and remove it; multi-symbol keys are used in stages. That walkthrough also involves stopping counterrotating cogwheels with a switch and using a whip point to move through the vault.
Quick Recap
Quick troubleshooting checklist
- The lever will not activate: inspect every contact and make sure there is no gap between adjacent teeth.
- You are missing a gear: check the floor and nearby ledge in the Blessed Pearl right chamber, then recover gears left in an earlier completed room.
- You cannot find the Wat Si Sawai puzzle: stay in the overworld area; the underground section belongs to Kid Who Vanished.
- Hidden Platform or Village is inaccessible: use the boat route from Wat Chana Songkhram and ensure you have the Rebreather for the underwater openings.
- River Bank is not visible: complete the preceding challenges; the final location appears only afterward.
