Release the Curse is the bedroom stage of the Haunted House sequence in the Haunted Floating Festival event. To finish it, you collect two Haunted Key Fragments, craft the Repaired Haunted Key, light four Unlit Jack-o’-Lanterns, complete the Haunted Library book sequence, and solve the bedroom symbol puzzle in this order: Spider Web, Cat, Bat, Witch Hat. Returning the resulting Lost Magic Page to the Grimoire earns the Decorative Magic Seal.
Before you start
- Every step in this sequence takes place inside the Haunted House on the Haunted Floating Festival island.
- The Dreamlight Valley Wiki event page lists the puzzle as becoming available on October 7, 2026. It does not confirm an end date, so the event should be treated as time-limited and checked in game.
- This guide covers only the Haunted Floating Festival. The Parks Floating Festival is a separate event.
- You will need a Royal Pickaxe for one step in the hallway, and access to the crafting station’s Events category.
Step-by-step walkthrough
The walkthrough in the Destructoid guide to the event follows the sequence below. Where the guide describes a placement, it is reporting what it observed at the time of writing. If a chest or candle sits somewhere slightly different in your game, follow the on-screen event prompts.
Stage 1: Collect the first Haunted Key Fragment
The first fragment is held by the Ghostly Dreamlight Fox, which leads you on a chase through six spots in the house. In order, the guide lists these locations:
- The back of the hallway, near the locked bedroom.
- The front of the hallway.
- The main entrance room, beside the sparkling book.
- The storage room, entered from the left side of the main room.
- Beside the crafting table in the main room.
- The back-left corner of the storage room, near a red chest.
Stage 2: Light the four Unlit Jack-o’-Lanterns for the second fragment
The second fragment comes from lighting four Unlit Jack-o’-Lanterns. The sequence the guide describes runs as follows:

- Use a Royal Pickaxe on the right-hand white lion statue in the hallway. This yields a Red Festival Key.
- Open the red chest with the Red Festival Key. It contains lantern candles.
- Collect the additional candles placed around the storage room and in the other chests.
- Light the four Unlit Jack-o’-Lanterns with those candles.
Stage 3: Craft the Repaired Haunted Key
- Go to the crafting station on the event island.
- Open the Events category.
- Combine the two Haunted Key Fragments into the Repaired Haunted Key.
You need both fragments before this recipe is available. The key is the item that opens the bedroom.
Stage 4: Light the lanterns and open the bedroom
Use the Repaired Haunted Key to light the four lanterns and unlock the bedroom. The Dreamlight Valley Wiki event page describes the next part as the Haunted Library. You light the lanterns, then retrieve and return books among four areas of the house: the bedroom, the front room, the hallway, and the storage room. The wiki and the walkthrough both treat this library sequence as a prerequisite to the bedroom puzzle. The sources reviewed do not give a total book count, so count the books you have placed against what the game shows you.

Stage 5: Solve the bedroom pillar puzzle
Once the bedroom is open, set the symbols in this order, from I to IV:
- I: Spider Web
- II: Cat
- III: Bat
- IV: Witch Hat
This is the Release the Curse combination. It is not the order used by the outdoor Combination Pillar puzzle, covered below.

Stage 6: Return the Lost Magic Page
Solving the bedroom puzzle causes a Lost Magic Page to drop. Pick it up and return it to the Grimoire on the bookstand. Doing so completes the sequence and grants the Decorative Magic Seal, which is a furniture reward.

Why the puzzle is numbered differently in different guides
The label “Haunted Key Puzzle #6” matches the Destructoid walkthrough, which treats Release the Curse as the sixth puzzle and the Haunted Library as a prerequisite within the same key-and-curse sequence. Some event summaries instead list Release the Curse as puzzle 6 and the Haunted Library as puzzle 7. Neither numbering is universal, so when a guide uses a different number, match the puzzle by its name and the symbols it asks for rather than by its number.
What is not confirmed
The sources used for this guide do not establish an end date for the Haunted Floating Festival, and they do not give a statistic or measured figure for any part of the puzzle. The steps above are the procedure as described by the walkthrough and the event wiki. Placement of chests and candles may shift in later updates, so the on-screen prompts are the final guide.
