On a rainy day, visit Ginger Island’s southeast beach after unlocking the Beach Resort. Put a Flute Block by each of the five stone groups, tune the blocks from left to right to 2, 11, 9, 5, and 7 clicks, then walk past them from left to right. The Mermaid rewards five Golden Walnuts. You do not need to read Journal Scrap #9 first.
Unlock the Mermaid’s beach
The puzzle is on Ginger Island’s southeast beach, which becomes accessible after you build the Beach Resort. The Mermaid and the five stone groups appear there on rainy days. Island weather is separate from the mainland forecast, so check the island itself rather than assuming both locations share the same weather. Stardew Valley Wiki: Ginger Island

Get Flute Blocks
You need five Flute Blocks for the straightforward method. They are furniture items that play a note when placed; right-clicking raises the pitch. The pitch cycles through 25 possible pitches. Stardew Valley Wiki: Flute Block
- Craft them: Robin gives the recipe at her six-heart event. Each block requires 10 Wood, 2 Copper Ore, and 20 Fiber.
- Receive one from the Museum: donating three qualifying artifacts that include a Bone Flute can award a Flute Block.
Tune and play the five blocks
- Wait for rain on Ginger Island and go to the southeast beach. Confirm the Mermaid and stone groups are present.
- Place one Flute Block on or below each of the five stone groups.
- Count the stones in each group: a small stone counts as 1 and a large stone counts as 5.
- Starting at the leftmost group, right-click each block the required number of times: 2, 11, 9, 5, 7. The wiki also lists 1, 10, 8, 4, 6 as an alternative sequence.
- Walk past all five blocks from left to right to play the melody. A successful performance awards five Golden Walnuts. Stardew Valley Wiki: Golden Walnut
If the puzzle does not work
- Check that it is raining on Ginger Island and that the Mermaid and stones are visible.
- Make sure each block is aligned with a stone group and that the blocks are played in left-to-right order.
- Verify the click count for each block, then walk past the blocks in sequence rather than stopping after tuning them.
Do you need Journal Scrap #9?
No. The scrap provides a clue, but reading it is not a requirement for solving the puzzle. Stardew Valley Wiki: Journal Scraps

Can you solve it with one Flute Block?
Yes. The Ginger Island guide also describes a method using one block: trigger the puzzle, remove and reposition the block at the next spot, tune it, and play the notes successively. That requires repeating the move-and-tune process for each note; using five blocks lets you set the full sequence and play it in one pass. Stardew Valley Wiki: Ginger Island
