Look for pink, bubbling sand: it signals that a spice blow is developing. The sand erupts into a vision-obscuring cloud, with a high-energy gas spout briefly visible at its center; once those effects fade, the spice field is easier to see. Because fields are semi-random and the Deep Desert layout changes weekly, use a current map to narrow your search, then confirm the field in game.
What a spice blow looks like
- Scan open sand. Spice fields appear on open sand in Hagga Basin and the Deep Desert. The community wiki says they form in areas patrolled by sandworms, so searching for one can put you in worm territory. Dune: Awakening Community Wiki: Spice Field
- Watch for pink, bubbling sand. This is the pre-blow sign. It resembles boiling water and indicates that a spice blow is developing.
- Look and listen for the eruption. After an incubation period, the area erupts with an audible explosion and an airborne mushroom cloud that can obscure your view. A high-energy gas spout appears briefly at the center.
- Wait for the effects to clear. The cloud and spout fade over time, making the spice field easier to spot and approach.
Where to look for fields
The community wiki’s location guidance gives useful broad search areas, not guaranteed coordinates. It places small fields in open sand in Eastern and Western Vermillius Gap, Mysa Tarill, and Sheol, as well as across much of the Deep Desert. It places medium fields from Deep Desert row D northward and large fields from row F northward. The wiki says large fields have multiple possible spawn locations, with one active at a time; it also says a crater can remain visible while inactive. These location details come from a page last edited June 19, 2026, so treat them as guidance and check a current map.
Use the interactive map, then verify in game
The Hidden Gaming Lair interactive map was updated October 8, 2026. Its official-server Deep Desert view defaults to the current layout; private or self-hosted server players can choose among 12 layouts. On October 7, the map added a layout picker, and on October 6 it removed four large-field markers that it said never corresponded to a field. Small and medium markers were unchanged in that update. The map says layouts labeled “Fixed locations only” do not yet show resource spots. Hidden Gaming Lair: Dune: Awakening Map
Since field locations and layouts vary—and map markers can be stale or incorrect—select the matching layout where applicable, use the map to narrow the search, and confirm the signs on the ground. The map page text does not provide exact active-field coordinates, and coordinates can change.

Choose a Deep Desert instance for your risk tolerance
To enter the Deep Desert, use the Overland map and select an instance. Funcom’s Help Center describes two choices: PvE lets you explore and gather resources without PvP, while PvP enables player combat and offers a 2.5x multiplier to mining yield and spice harvesting. Funcom Help Center: Dune: Awakening Deep Desert
The multiplier is a yield benefit, not a spotting aid. Choose PvE if avoiding PvP matters more than the stated boost; choose PvP if you accept player-combat exposure for the higher spice-harvesting multiplier.

What field size means for harvesting
The community wiki lists these fully harvested, unmodified yields, without harvesting-efficiency skills. They are game-mechanic figures reported by the wiki, not independently verified statistics.
| Field size | Reported Spice Sand yield |
|---|---|
| Small | 500 |
| Medium | 15,000 |
| Large | 250,000 |
Finding a field does not require a particular harvesting tool. The community wiki says hand gathering is slow and generates a small amount of worm threat; static compactors are more efficient; and the Sandcrawler is the most efficient because it vacuums a wide area as it drives over a field.
