To run a 24/7 lofi stream on YouTube, create a live stream in YouTube Studio, send it from an encoder using YouTube’s server URL and stream key, and keep the music and visuals cleared for your intended use. You can run the encoder on your own computer or use a cloud service that loops uploaded videos. Before choosing either route, confirm your channel can go live and secure rights to every track and visual.
What you need before you start
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance sets a minimum age of 16. - An encoder: software running on a computer or a standalone hardware encoder. YouTube says expensive equipment is not necessary; hardware is optional, not a prerequisite.
- Music and visuals you are permitted to use in a YouTube livestream, including any replay or archive you intend to keep.
- A dependable upload connection and a plan for checking the broadcast while it is running.
Choose how the stream will run

YouTube’s encoder documentation also names Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos, but that description alone does not establish current pricing, availability or suitability for a particular lofi channel. Verify those details directly before choosing it.
Get music and visuals cleared before going live
“Lofi,” “royalty-free” and “free to download” do not by themselves establish permission to use a track in a continuous YouTube livestream. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions put responsibility on the creator to hold the necessary rights, including music rights from artists, labels, publishers and other royalty participants.
Get written permission or a license that covers livestreaming, the territories where the channel will be available, and any replay or archive use you want. Keep the documentation accessible. Check the rights to your artwork, animation and other visual elements as carefully as the music.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder or lead to interruption or termination. Even if you have a license, YouTube says the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to prevent a live interruption. Ask the owner about allowlisting and review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams. A license does not guarantee that automated matching will not interrupt a broadcast.
Set up the YouTube stream and encoder
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, enable live streaming for the channel and complete any required verification. Do this well before launch: first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Create the event. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Follow the current prompts for the title, visibility and other event details.
- Copy the ingest details. In the stream’s encoder setup, copy the YouTube server URL and stream key into your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish or share it, and replace it in YouTube Studio if it is exposed.
- Build the lofi scene. Add your rights-cleared music and visual loop in the encoder. Confirm the correct audio source is selected and that the image or animation is visible. The exact controls vary by encoder; YouTube’s cited setup guidance establishes the URL-and-key workflow, not one universal software interface.
- Test before the public launch. Start the encoder and wait for the Live Control Room preview. Check that the picture, music level and playback are right, then confirm the watch page is accessible with the visibility you selected. If useful, inspect it on a phone as well as your computer.
- Start the stream and monitor it. Once the preview is healthy, start the broadcast through the encoder and the Live Control Room controls shown for your event. Watch for audio loss, a frozen image, connection trouble or copyright notices.
Plan bandwidth, monitoring and recovery
YouTube recommends keeping 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the stream’s outgoing bitrate. If you configure primary and backup encoders, include both streams in the bandwidth calculation, then leave the additional headroom. The guidance is in YouTube’s streaming tips. A connection that barely meets the encoder’s bitrate can still fail when other devices or applications use the network.

- Test the full setup before the scheduled start, rather than discovering a problem during the launch.
- Start the encoder before the planned event time so you can inspect the preview and correct problems.
- Keep checking audio and video after going live; a healthy initial preview does not guarantee the feed will stay healthy.
- If you configure failover, test it by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its network connection, then confirm playback moves to the backup as expected.
- Keep rights records available and monitor Live Control Room for copyright notices.
These checks lower the risk of avoidable problems; they are not a guarantee of uninterrupted uptime. A home-computer setup also depends on that computer and its network remaining available.
Know what happens to the archive
YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume the same for a broadcast that runs longer than 12 hours. If you need a recording of a longer stream, plan a separate local recording or another recording workflow, and verify YouTube’s current behavior before relying on an archive.

Common problems and fixes
- Live access is not available yet: verify the channel and enable live streaming in YouTube Studio. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours; check for account restrictions before scheduling a launch.
- The Live Control Room does not receive a feed: recheck that the encoder has the server URL and stream key for the same event. Confirm the encoder is actively sending and that the stream key has not been changed or exposed.
- The stream starts but video or audio is missing: inspect the encoder’s selected scene, visual source and audio input, then check the Live Control Room preview before trying again.
- The stream drops or stutters: check the upload connection and competing network use. Compare available upload capacity with the outgoing bitrate, including YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom and any backup encoder traffic.
- A copyright match interrupts the stream: review the notice, confirm your license covers livestreaming and the intended use, and contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting. Do not assume that a “free” label prevents a claim.
- The archive is missing: check whether the stream exceeded 12 hours. YouTube’s encoder guide only states automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours; maintain a separate recording when a longer archive matters.
