You can run a classical music stream around the clock with OBS by looping a licensed audio file or playlist, sending it to YouTube through an encoder stream, and keeping the computer, power, and internet connection running. The loop handles playback—not uptime: you still need to monitor the stream, and YouTube may not save a complete archive of a broadcast longer than 12 hours.
Before you configure OBS
Confirm your YouTube channel can livestream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Channel eligibility and activation are separate from OBS setup, so check access in YouTube before building the broadcast: YouTube live-streaming eligibility.
Clear the music rights for the recording you will use
An old composition is not automatically a free-to-use recording. Check rights for both the composition or arrangement and the particular performance or recording, including the territories where viewers may access it and both the live transmission and any archive. YouTube’s live terms require the necessary rights for live content worldwide, including applicable music licensing rights: YouTube livestream terms and conditions.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party material. If it identifies content that remains in the stream, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. A license alone may not prevent interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Claims can also arrive after the broadcast ends. Keep written licenses, a track list, and any allowlisting confirmation, and test the exact repertoire before depending on it for a long broadcast: YouTube copyright guidance for live streams.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Create the YouTube encoder stream
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream and choose the encoder workflow.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream details using the available connection method. YouTube describes the key as the credential that lets the encoder send its feed; treat it as private. Reset it if it is exposed. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and stream settings guidance.
- Keep the key out of public view. Do not show it in a screen recording or share it with anyone who should not control the stream.
Build the looping scene in OBS
OBS’s Quick Start Guide recommends setting up sources, checking the Audio Mixer meters, and testing a short stream before the real broadcast: OBS Quick Start Guide (dated August 25, 2021).
Choose a visual and audio source
- Create a scene and add a static cover image or another visual you are authorized to use.
- Add the music source using one of the options below. Check the Audio Mixer while it plays so you can confirm that OBS is receiving sound.
- Listen for clipping, silence, unwanted desktop audio, and abrupt transitions. Keep the scene simple enough to monitor.
Choose how the music repeats
| Playback setup | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| OBS Media Source with Loop enabled | One long mix or program file | Simple to configure; test the file boundary and confirm playback continues. |
| OBS VLC Video source with Loop Playlist | Multiple track files | Supports playlist and shuffle behavior, but requires VLC and testing of transitions. |
To loop one file, add a Media Source, select the audio file, and enable Loop in its properties. OBS documents MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV support for Media Source. For multiple files, install VLC, add a VLC Video source, choose the files or playlist, and enable Loop Playlist; Shuffle Playlist is also available. These controls are documented in OBS’s Media Sources guide (dated January 11, 2022).

Test, publish, and monitor the stream
- Run an unlisted test. Start the encoder and inspect the Live Control Room preview and the watch page. Confirm both image and audio reach YouTube.
- Test the playback behavior. Let the source reach a file boundary or playlist transition. Check for silence, overlap, a stalled source, or a change in volume.
- Publish only after the test is clean. Confirm the stream is set to the intended visibility before starting the public broadcast.
- Monitor continuously. Check audio and video quality and the Live Control Room status during the broadcast. YouTube recommends preparing in advance, starting an encoder early, testing failover where applicable, and monitoring stream quality: YouTube livestreaming tips and streaming tips for encoders.
What a 24/7 OBS stream does—and does not—guarantee
OBS can repeat a file or playlist, but that does not keep the stream online if the computer shuts down, power fails, the network drops, the encoder stops, or YouTube cannot ingest the feed. YouTube advises leaving upload-bandwidth headroom, testing the setup, and monitoring stream quality. A real 24/7 operation therefore needs a plan for network and power interruptions, encoder restart or recovery, local recording, and human monitoring. The cited YouTube and OBS guidance does not validate a particular failover design.
Plan separately for the replay archive
YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its archive guidance cautions that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so do not promise viewers a complete replay of one continuous 24-hour broadcast. If replay matters, consider shorter sessions, record locally, and verify each archive after the stream: YouTube archive guidance and encoder instructions.

Can I use classical music because it is public domain?
