To start the Mega Dimension DLC story in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, finish the base game’s main story, make sure the DLC is purchased and accessible on your system, then follow the in-game prompt to the Hotel Z rooftop. There, you can begin a new side mission.
1. Complete the main story
The Mega Dimension story is postgame content: you must finish the main story in Pokémon Legends: Z-A before you can progress through it. Nintendo’s version 2.0.0 update notes and The Pokémon Company’s DLC overview both place the additional story after the main game.
2. Check that you have access to the DLC
Mega Dimension is sold separately, and you need the full game as well as access to the DLC. It is compatible with both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, including the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Nintendo’s DLC announcement describes the game requirement and lists a U.S. regular price of $29.99 in 2025; check your local store for current regional pricing.
The game copy can be physical or digital, but the DLC must be available to the user and console you are playing on. If your setup uses virtual game cards, confirm the DLC’s virtual game card is loaded on the console. Nintendo’s DLC access guidance covers purchase and access checks.

- Venture into Hyperspace Lumiose in this additional story content that can be accessed after completing the main game
- Work with the mysterious baker, Ansha, to make donuts that awaken the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa’s power and grant you and your Pokémon a variety of useful effects
- Join Team MZ and the Mega Evolution Successor, Korrina, to investigate Hyperspace Lumiose, the otherworldly home to rare and hyper-strong Pokémon
- Discover new Mega Evolutions such as Mega Raichu X, Mega Raichu Y, Mega Chimecho and Mega Baxcalibur
- Claim Holo-X and Holo-Y in-game apparel items, which you can wear as soon as you are able to customize your character’s look and outfit in the main game
3. Go to the Hotel Z rooftop
Once the main-story requirement is met and the DLC is ready, launch or resume the game and follow its prompt to head to the Hotel Z rooftop. Nintendo Support says this is where players are prompted to start a new side mission when the additional story is playable.
If the rooftop prompt does not appear
- Still working through the main story? Finish it first; the DLC story cannot progress before then.
- Story complete, but no prompt? Check the title screen for the “Downloadable content ready” icon, which Nintendo identifies as confirmation that the DLC is installed.
- No icon or DLC access? Confirm that the DLC is marked “Purchased” for the Nintendo Account that bought it, and check that the console has access to it. If you use virtual game cards, verify that the DLC card is loaded.
- Purchase is confirmed, but the game still does not recognize the DLC? Nintendo’s support instructions include restarting the console, checking for system and game updates, and confirming purchase and virtual game card access. Follow the instructions for your system and account setup.
- The prompt appears? Go to the Hotel Z rooftop and start the side mission.
What if you do not own the DLC?
The added story requires the separately sold DLC, but the DLC is not required to encounter every Pokémon associated with it: Nintendo says some can still be encountered or obtained through communication features. Those encounters do not unlock the paid Mega Dimension story. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is not listed as a requirement to start the DLC story; online membership relates to online features.
