How you stop a YouTube stream from your phone depends on what is actually sending the video. For a stream started in the YouTube mobile app, tap Finish. For an encoder running in a cloud service, use that provider’s mobile dashboard if it supports the controls; YouTube does not provide one universal phone control for every third-party encoder.
First identify where the stream is running
- YouTube mobile stream: Your phone is the source, and the YouTube app controls the stream.
- Encoder-based stream: Software or hardware sends the video to YouTube. Its stream key and server address are configured in the encoder, and its controls may be in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Third-party cloud encoder: A hosting provider runs the encoder remotely. The provider’s dashboard—not your PC—may control the output, but phone access depends on that service.
YouTube distinguishes mobile streaming from encoder streaming, so the correct stop control depends on which setup you have. YouTube Help: Choose how to live stream
Stop a stream started in the YouTube mobile app
- Open the active live stream in the YouTube app on the phone that started it.
- Tap Finish to end the stream. YouTube’s mobile instructions give this control for ending a mobile-created stream. YouTube Help: Go live on mobile
This ends the mobile-originated stream. It does not control a separate encoder that is already sending video from a cloud host.
Stop an encoder-based or cloud-hosted stream from your phone
When the encoder is hosted by a provider
- Open the provider’s mobile app or dashboard in a phone browser and sign in to the account running the stream.
- Open the active channel, stream, or encoder session and use its supported stop control. The exact label and steps vary by provider.
- If you cannot find a mobile stop control, check the provider’s documentation or support before stopping the YouTube event itself. Stopping the event may not be equivalent to pausing the cloud encoder.
The provider is unspecified here, so there is no verified universal sequence for its mobile dashboard. YouTube’s own guidance cannot establish whether a particular provider lets you stop or restart its remote encoder from a phone.

When managing an encoder event through YouTube
YouTube’s encoder guide describes ending the stream in Live Control Room and stopping the content feed from the encoder. Its instructions also say that, with auto-start and auto-stop enabled, the encoder can start or stop streaming. These controls may be usable from a phone browser, but the layout and availability of controls on a particular device are not established here. Restarting: do not assume the same broadcast will resume
Restart the encoder or output from the hosting provider’s dashboard if that service supports it. Whether the existing YouTube broadcast can be reused depends on the event and provider behavior; reconnecting a remote encoder is not a guarantee that the same broadcast will continue.

YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation says a broadcast automatically ends around a minute after its bound live stream stops sending video. That describes broadcast lifecycle behavior, not a guaranteed restart window for every event. If preserving the same broadcast matters, check the event status in Live Control Room and the cloud provider’s instructions before ending or restarting the output.
