First identify which player is repeating. In vMix, check the Loop setting for the specific List input or PlayList feature; in YouTube, turn off playlist Loop—or exit the single-video repeat state marked by a “1” on the Loop icon. These are separate controls, and YouTube Autoplay is different again.
Identify what is playing the video
“Playlist” can refer to three different things in this setup: a vMix List input that plays media entries, vMix’s separate PlayList feature that sequences inputs, or a playlist in YouTube’s own player. Find the part of the setup that is actually advancing or repeating playback before changing a setting.
- If vMix is playing local media from a List input, check that List’s controls.
- If vMix is switching through inputs according to a sequence, check the PlayList window.
- If playback is in YouTube’s player, use YouTube’s playlist controls.
Stop a vMix List input from looping
vMix List and PlayList are separate features. The List instructions below reflect vMix’s version 26 documentation; labels may differ in other installed versions. See vMix List documentation.
- Open the List input’s editing controls.
- Check Loop. Turn it off if you want playback to stop when the list reaches its end. vMix describes this setting as starting the list from the beginning again when it reaches the end.
- Inspect the entries and their enabled states. Confirm the same video has not been added more than once and that another intended entry is not disabled.
- Check whether the List contains only that one video. If it does, playing the same video again may simply be the next cycle through a one-item list.
- Retest playback from the beginning of the list.
Auto Next governs automatic movement to the next entry and is enabled by default according to the vMix List documentation. Randomise shuffles the order; it does not remove duplicate entries or disable looping.

Stop vMix PlayList from restarting
The vMix PlayList instructions reflect version 23 documentation. The PlayList is distinct from a List input. See vMix PlayList documentation.
- Open the PlayList window with the cog button next to PlayList.
- Review the ordered inputs and confirm the same input is not listed repeatedly by mistake.
- Turn off Loop if the sequence should stop at its end. vMix defines this control as starting the PlayList from the beginning again when completed.
- If an item restarts before the sequence reaches its end, inspect that item’s starting position and duration, along with its transition and transition duration. These per-item settings can affect what appears to be a repeat.
- Retest from the start and note whether the current item restarts early or the entire sequence begins again only after completing.
Stop a YouTube playlist from repeating
When the playlist is playing in YouTube, the control is in YouTube’s player, not vMix’s List or PlayList settings. On desktop, expand the playlist box beside the video and use its Loop control. YouTube Help explains that enabling playlist Loop makes “The playlist … repeat continuously.” See YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.

- The whole playlist starts over: switch off the playlist’s Loop control.
- Only the current video repeats: check whether the Loop icon has a “1” in its center. That state repeats the current video; use the Loop control again to leave it.
The layout can vary on phones, TVs and consoles, so look for the repeat control in the playlist or player controls on the device you are using.
Do not confuse looping with Autoplay
YouTube Autoplay starts another related video after the current video ends; it is not the setting that repeats the current item. If a different video starts unexpectedly, check Autoplay rather than the playlist’s repeat state. Its setting can differ by device. See YouTube Help: Autoplay videos.

Diagnose what is still repeating
After changing the setting that matches the playback source, restart the test from the beginning. The symptom narrows down what to inspect next:
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| The same file or input appears more than once in sequence | Look for duplicate entries in the vMix List or PlayList. |
| The current item restarts before the next item should play | Check its duration and starting position in vMix PlayList, or the current-video repeat state in YouTube. |
| The full sequence begins again after its last entry | Check the relevant vMix Loop setting or YouTube playlist Loop. |
| A different video starts after playback ends | Check YouTube Autoplay; it selects another related video rather than repeating the current one. |
For vMix List, the official knowledge-base article dated January 17, 2025, says a List can play videos back to back in a loop and notes that randomisation is available. It also says the List does not require all videos to be loaded at once, which can consume system resources. See vMix: Does vMix support scheduling?.
